In response to that creep Harrop:

Does she not realise that once she has outlived her usefulness to the Adrians of the world, she’ll be painted as a terf and expected to stfu with all the rest of the vagina bearers or whatever horrendous name will be given to the ones that do the shit work and bear children.

This. At some point, Dawn Butler will make a minor mistake in language or express an opinion that doesn’t align with wherever the goal posts are on that particular day, and the only people prepared to save her from the ducking stool will be radfems.

Ereshkigal · 10/10/2018 14:47

Yeah, maybe.

Trousered · 10/10/2018 15:01

This is all rampant and virulent transphobia according to Prior.
It's all blunt and direct but it's all true. It would appear men want legislation to make it illegal to say something a man doesn't agree with.

Mumfun · 10/10/2018 15:01

Dawn Butler and Lily Madigan in key women representing positions represent why the Labour Party has totally failed women!

Trousered · 10/10/2018 15:07

Prior comments....

Mostly boredom, and bitterness at the the downward trend of gardening programmes on TV, which has left a vitriolic angst-ridden void, they distract themselves from by being meddle-aged edge-lords on twitter and attacking people a fraction of their age in return for Mumsnet kudos

Trousered · 10/10/2018 15:10

More prior

"they don't really take to foreigners.... and I'm afraid anyone outside of their postcode is usually deemed as such."

I think this is about WEP members, and being upset about "non binary" being used by those that have not had special permission to by the language police

RiverTam · 10/10/2018 15:20

I'm having a fun email convo with James. He's digging himself a bit of a hole, claims to have not know anything about Adrain and they can't possibly check out the Twitter presence of everyone who gets in touch, and yet is happy to keep on responding to me, the eegit. I'm not even a constituent!

Trousered · 10/10/2018 15:32

Prior's comments are fascinating, to be very upset that women are not watching gardening programmes and instead are commenting on the implications of mainstreaming fetish is illuminating. We apparantly have to have our subject matter for discussion restricted to topics that are considered suitable for ladies.

How Victorian.

Needmoresleep · 10/10/2018 15:32

It is clear that Butler does not believe that TWAW, as she exhibits a deep misogyny towards women, but not trans-women.

Sorry. I am a good person. I work hard, pay my taxes, look after my mother with dementia, volunteer in the community, have raised two nice children am generally a supportive friend, and do my best to contribute to society.

Yet this counts for nothing. She is not interested in my views, or in listening to people who represent my views. All I really want is proportionality. I do not want girls, minority groups and the vulnerable to lose important protections.

Why is this hate? Why do the views of Dr Adrian, Lily M, Jess, Pips Bunce and Susan Green carry so much more weight than mine? Or than the millions of other decent women working hard to work, raise children and lead ordinary constructive lives.

I find the arrogance breathtaking.

howlsmovingcastle84 · 10/10/2018 15:35

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted

I got the exact same email. Clearly cut-and-paste job for anyone bringing this up. Didn't address my points including Harrop using the response as some sort of 'evidence' of Dawn's views towards FPFW.

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 10/10/2018 15:40

I think that thread compiled by Joss Prior does a brilliant job of showing ordinary people that what he calls transphobia everyone else calls basic common sense.

gendercritter · 10/10/2018 15:40

A year ago I would have said I would only ever consider voting for the Green Party or Labour. I felt at home with both parties in many ways and did bits here and there to support them.

Absolutely no way will I vote for either ever again unless they shift positions very dramatically in the future.

I feel so betrayed and let down. Dawn Butler would rather listen to Jane Fae and Dr Harrop than women? Where is her integrity? Where is her concern for her own sex.

I am extremely angry. Because I am female my anger isn't a threatening or dangerous thing. But it still has meaning and it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

LangCleg · 10/10/2018 15:43

I never thought Dawn Butler was the sharpest tool in the box but, even so, my main take away from all this consorting with and sucking up to ten-a-penny misogynists is that she is even more dense than I thought.

ShotsFired · 10/10/2018 15:51

"We continue to recognise the importance of women-only spaces. We would seek to ensure that the government implement comprehensive policies and guidance to ensure the safety of women in female only spaces. We are happy to engage with reasonable concerns but the answer should never be to automatically exclude trans people."

can people who have received that reply and spell it out in single syllables if needs be:

Women-only spaces includes all people with vaginas.

It does not include any people with penises.

She is the one conflating two things and coming up with a zebra. Which is a telling slip, in itself.

LangCleg, interesting because I had heard exactly the same thing about Penny Mordaunt.

How about we march in their constituencies. Though for me, as a Londoner, Brent is easier. Indeed I think she should be able to feel my anger from here.

LangCleg · 10/10/2018 16:09

LangCleg, interesting because I had heard exactly the same thing about Penny Mordaunt.

Front benches of both main parties are currently distinctly lacking in talent, if you ask me - and regardless of political views/leanings

I could count about half a dozen I think are competent enough to manage a minsterial brief adequately.

PersonWithAVulva · 10/10/2018 16:18

it is starting to look as if the chances of kicking GRA reforms into the long grass will be highest if the Tories are reelected

I know it was the Tories that started this shitshow, but it does kind of look like theres no chance at all of any thought about women from Labour. It pains me, but I WILL vote Tory at the next election if they are the only ones willing to allow women space to speak without declaring it transphopbia. Though M

merrymouse · 10/10/2018 17:22

the answer should never be to automatically exclude trans people.

Just as people legally can’t automatically exclude men or women because that would be discrimination.

I don’t understand what situation would arise where it would be necessary and fair to exclude men, but not trans women; or to exclude women but not trans men.

To exclude a group from a service or protection presumably you have to be able to explain why.

KatVonGulag · 10/10/2018 18:17

Well I hope dawn sees how AH used her email to score points. I'm scared of the TRA's, loads of them are.

She should have gone. She needs to help reach a compromise in all of this.

Ereshkigal · 10/10/2018 18:20

I never thought Dawn Butler was the sharpest tool in the box but, even so, my main take away from all this consorting with and sucking up to ten-a-penny misogynists is that she is even more dense than I thought.

Mine too.

BlackForestCake · 10/10/2018 19:29

I quite liked her despite her bizarre reality-denying positions on this, but her or her staff having actually doxxed women, exposing them to potential harassment and even violence, is unforgivable.

SunsetBeetch · 10/10/2018 20:49

Joss Prior is a raging misogynist. No wonder they are friends with Harrop.

Harrop's tweets from #StillHere

I can’t hear the name Dawn Butler now without the word mindful popping into my head.

(Apologies for the YouTube channel.)

LizzieSiddal · 10/10/2018 22:40

Melanie Phillips nails it in that interview.

AdultHumanFemale · 10/10/2018 23:47

I'm a very easy going, laid back person, slow to take offense, and usually looking for a silver lining or an extenuating circumstance. However, yesterday I cancelled my Labour Party membership. I have clung on for years, but have had enough. Momentum are massively problematic, the shortlists and the misogyny of people like DB and LM have made me lose faith. Other parties seem to have more of an appetite for standing up for women, but LP are hopelessly limp.
