Police called to Green Party Conference

They were handing out leaflets outside the Green Party Conference.

The police were called by TRA activists. I have to assume that the callers described a major disturbance involving transphobic protesters because five officers and a police horse attended.

This is a council building, but the leafleters were moved on nevertheless.

Inside the Conference, the TRas were busy defacing notices.

Will no-one raise this interference with our democratic right in Parliament? Will no-one direct the police to be more circumspect about allegations of transphobic attacks?

Isn't terf a slur now?

NotTerfNorCis · 06/10/2018 18:38

Wow. So on the same day Glinner gets a police warning for gender critical thought, 5 police and a police horse are called in to deal with three women handing out leaflets?

SPOFS · 06/10/2018 18:40

Yes, those women look terrifying. I hope the police were wearing their riot gear. Hmm

Barracker · 06/10/2018 18:41

But how did the horse identify?

Mamaryllis · 06/10/2018 18:42

This idiot from Oxford Brookes seems nice...

I suspect that defacing a member of the house of Lords property is the more serious hate crime.

And we all know that there is no crime in Bristol and the police have nothing better to do.

Moving people on for handing out leaflets?

Glinner was cautioned by the police?

Donald Trump possibly in for a second term?

Feck me the world has gone mad.

HamiltonCork · 06/10/2018 18:48

Does the Green Party campaign for anything to do with the environment or is it now a purely TRA party?

FekkoTheLawyer · 06/10/2018 18:51

Mama - that person is always on Twitter spouting off. I suspect they don't get out much.

silentcrow · 06/10/2018 18:54

Quite a lot of support in her mentions from older Greens, by the look of it. About damn time.

placemats · 06/10/2018 18:58

James Bliss doesn't need to imagine being detached from reality.

I was once at a football match where mounted police were called in - it really brought home to me how powerful mounted police are (I must also say they were impeccably professional under serious provocation - I had a child with me at the time and we were protected admirably as two lots of idiotic football hooligans had a go at each other, throwing rocks and spitting ) so to find horses sent to some women handing out leaflets - well I find myself surprised. Who sent such a disproportionate response?

I’d be interested to find out what happened here:

Who called this in?
Who received the call?
What was the content of the call? (Ie what were the police told?)
Who authorised such a response?
What was the response of the police to the protesters (and vice versa) ?

Should all be FOI stuff right?

VickyEadie · 06/10/2018 19:05

It's always been customary for groups to leaflet outside party conferences, of course.

The difference here will be that the complainant(s) will have uttered the magic words..."transphobic" and "hate".

It doesn't have to be remotely true these days for the rozzers to use their weight.

IFeelSorryForMillie · 06/10/2018 19:07

Errmm Why were they moved on?

Anlaf · 06/10/2018 19:08

And this young feminist lad (and for some reason Lib Dem) campaigner is very keen we know that it must have been an exhibitor - couldn't possibly be a LGBT+ Greens. Doth this feminist protest too much, I wonder?

He's also getting the boot into the nasty ladies by calling them terfs downthread.

Silly boy/girl/whatever nobody actually cares.

Anlaf · 06/10/2018 19:12

Sorry - of course that brave fellow was talking about the "TERF" on Jenny Jones' leaflets.

I can't believe the police actually did anything beyond keep an eye - what on earth need to discuss for two hours?

Theo Simon, Green Party parliamentary candidate from Frome tweets regularly about the GRA and the protection of rights of women and girls. I would like to think he is able to make his very sensible and compassionate voice heard in the party, he is such a good guy that you couldn't possibly think him bigoted.

ArfArfBarf · 06/10/2018 19:16

So on one side we have bomb threats and balaclavas..

...and the other get reported to the police for leafleting. Hmm

haXXor · 06/10/2018 19:18

Computer Science student calling women names on social media? Time to update my "do not hire" list.

FekkoTheLawyer · 06/10/2018 19:22

Who that then?

IFeelSorryForMillie · 06/10/2018 19:25

But again I ask, Why were they moved on?

they were doing nothing for the police to give them reason to move them on.

If 3 people with leaflets is now enough, then why are shouting/chanting/verbally abusive activists not moved on, when they turn up outside women's meetings?

Someone somewhere needs to address just WTF the police are up to. Because so far it all seems astonishingly Sexest.

So they were a blockage, threat or danger?

Christ on a bike, I lived in the East end when the fucking NF would have regular rallies and lob bottles at the car.

HandsOffMyRights · 06/10/2018 19:30

Oh I've had dealings with that Bliss child before. I'm sure his mother and grandmother are very proud of him.
