Police called to Green Party Conference

They were handing out leaflets outside the Green Party Conference.

The police were called by TRA activists. I have to assume that the callers described a major disturbance involving transphobic protesters because five officers and a police horse attended.

This is a council building, but the leafleters were moved on nevertheless.

Inside the Conference, the TRas were busy defacing notices.

Will no-one raise this interference with our democratic right in Parliament? Will no-one direct the police to be more circumspect about allegations of transphobic attacks?

I wonder if some of these boys were locked in the coal celler when they were kids by mum, granny, sister...

SophoclesTheFox · 06/10/2018 19:35

Holy shit.

The thought police do know that the actual, real, nee-naw police aren’t interested in thought crime, don’t they?

Don’t they?

Catmint · 06/10/2018 19:37

The citizens advice link there is for Scotland - not sure if the law is different in England / Wales?

ChattyLion · 06/10/2018 20:11

I thought wasting police time is an offence?

IFeelSorryForMillie · 06/10/2018 20:15

didn't see the Scottish bitBlush

The only thing I can find for England, is a dispersal order Confused

But again, why 3 women handing out leaflets, but not shouting/intimidating Activists.

Micke · 06/10/2018 20:19

The police don't want trouble - they would (I expect) have been polite but firm about asking the women to move on (despite having no legal grounds for it), and, much like the ManFriday crew when they went swimming, being polite, responsible members of society, the leafleters will have moved on as asked rather than kick up much of a fuss.

It's the problem with actually being responsible. We want society to be better, we want to model that better society, so civil disobedience doesn't come naturally.

theOtherPamAyres · 06/10/2018 20:20

I can only think that the officers and horse were diverted from more pressing duties - a busy city centre, several festivals and sporting events including a Bristol Rovers match.

The call must have described a serious public order situation to have diverted five officers and a police horse.

I think someone who was there needs to put in those FOI requests.

And - Times newspaper and Andrew Gilligan - there's a story here!

tediousnamechange · 06/10/2018 20:28

5 officers and a horse for those three women with flasks of tea?

Jeez. Someone was tantrummimg.

FermatsTheorem · 06/10/2018 20:31

On a side note, I see our little denizen of "Oxford B" describes himself thus: "queer, cis, he/him."

So white straight guy appropriates "queer" culture. Again.

It's all about the appropriation with these fuckers, isn't it?

FekkoTheLawyer · 06/10/2018 20:31

God I hope lawyers start handing out the leaflets. I'd love to see how that would go when the flying squad arrive.

Popchyk · 06/10/2018 20:33

That horse must have been knackered.

Must have taken it ages to canter down to Bristol from West Yorkshire. Grin

Won't someone think of the horses?

HelenaDove · 06/10/2018 20:37

And we are expected to buy it when they say they havent enough manpower to attend crimes.

Dispatches is covering that issue on Monday.

Badgerthebodger · 06/10/2018 20:56

Different area, but in Manchester in the last two weeks police have: not attended 4 burglaries on the same street over 2 separate nights, not attended a very serious attempted sexual assault (which thank FUCK DH’s friend happened upon walking home from the pub and pulled the guy off the terrified first year student) and not attended a very dear friend’s pleas for help when her abusive shite of an ex turned up and banged on her windows for an hour calling her all sorts. Bristol police, can you send Manchester some funds please? You must be rolling in it.

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 06/10/2018 20:58

For crying out loud

They really are having a narcissistic meltdown, aren't they?

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 06/10/2018 21:01

The police must have felt like prize prawns. Maybe the nice ladies gave the horse sugar lumps

EverardDigby · 06/10/2018 21:04

Popchyk Grin

ArcheryAnnie · 06/10/2018 21:19

But how did the horse identify?

Barracker I speak horse. He's called Susan. And he wants you to respect his life choices.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 06/10/2018 21:49

We did quite well in my town despite terrible rain and a very cold day. No one even argued with the two of us. One woman handed her postcard back, saying she disagreed but that was as controversial as it got

Did the police say why they were moving them on? Because I thought they had to give a reason - unless it's obvious, like hurling abuse.

Freespeecher · 06/10/2018 21:52

Links to be made to Suffragetes and horses as required (sure, racehorses rather than police horses but still...).

BlackeyedSusan · 06/10/2018 22:02

why susan, why is it always susan?

Wink
FermatsTheorem · 06/10/2018 22:04

Actually, I have it on good authority that it was an alsatian who identified as a horse. Trans-equine if you will.

lucydogz · 06/10/2018 22:05

it was in Bristol though. Home of the Woke.

littlbrowndog · 06/10/2018 22:23

Jeez the polis moan about not having enough resources to tackle crime yet there they are

littlbrowndog · 06/10/2018 22:25
