Police called to Green Party Conference

They were handing out leaflets outside the Green Party Conference.

The police were called by TRA activists. I have to assume that the callers described a major disturbance involving transphobic protesters because five officers and a police horse attended.

This is a council building, but the leafleters were moved on nevertheless.

Inside the Conference, the TRas were busy defacing notices.

Will no-one raise this interference with our democratic right in Parliament? Will no-one direct the police to be more circumspect about allegations of transphobic attacks?

Good luck today BristolThree. Thanks for the update and glad the police (once there) were fairly sensible about it

sexnotgender · 07/10/2018 08:26

Pretty sure that horse is smarter than the TRAs.

VickyEadie · 07/10/2018 08:43

I expect that they were taking the lovely horse to the horse dentist.

FekkoTheLawyer · 07/10/2018 08:47

The emergency services record calls don't they? I'd love to hear that call out. Can we? If we ask they have to let us don't they? I'm sure it was a calm and measured request.

😱😫😫😫😭😭😭🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

AngryAttackKittens · 07/10/2018 08:52

I imagine it being like "omg it's a bloodbath over here, 100 highly trained ninja transmisogynists are murdering us by throwing leaflets like those pointy little metal stars".

Bowlofbabelfish · 07/10/2018 08:53

Is it trying to replicate what they do on twitter (mobbing, reporting, getting women chucked off)?

I hadn’t thought about it like this but yes - that is a fair point. Again, a warped sense of reality where they are unable to be proportionate but instead see themselves as the centre of things. These people aren’t offended, they’re using offence as aggression

Glad the police were reasonable - the horses are gorgeous aren’t they? So calm and well trained too.

Ereshkigal · 07/10/2018 08:56

Again, a warped sense of reality where they are unable to be proportionate but instead see themselves as the centre of things. These people aren’t offended, they’re using offence as aggression

That's narcissism for you.

Floisme · 07/10/2018 08:59

I’m surprised they didn’t call West Yorkshire Police.

IFeelSorryForMillie · 07/10/2018 09:00

Is it trying to replicate what they do on twitter (mobbing, reporting, getting women chucked off)?

Then guess is, it wasn't just one person and just one phone call. But coordinated scripted phone calls.

IFeelSorryForMillie · 07/10/2018 09:00

*The my guess is

Popchyk · 07/10/2018 09:00

Stonewall et al really push transgender hate crime reporting.

They have a huge part to play in this.

HandsOffMyRights · 07/10/2018 09:03

Protected their whole lives. Now that's privilege.

RhythmStix · 07/10/2018 09:04

The BristolThree eh? And there was me thinking the Birmingham Six or the SecretSeven were mixed up in major crim stiff. Wink

Leafleting though....it's LITERALLY evil to LITERALLY deny the LITERAL existence of transfolk. LITERALLY.

LangCleg · 07/10/2018 09:06

I can't even type a sensible comment about this, so furious am I.

Popchyk · 07/10/2018 09:07

It will peaktrans a few more, don't worry.

AbsintheFriends · 07/10/2018 09:12

The logical conclusion of all this, if the GRA reform gets through, is that police are going to spend all of their time following up complaints of 'hate crime' and not have the resources or the inclination to deal with the voyeurism, sexual harassment and assault that will arise from having men in women's spaces.

When you see things like this, it makes you realise how easily it could go that way.

LizzieSiddal · 07/10/2018 09:16

Thanks for the post BristolThree.

I think this incident will have shown many Greens the reality of what’s going on. There’s no hate, no attacks or threats coming from our side.

Bowlofbabelfish · 07/10/2018 09:30

coordinated scripted phone calls.

If that is the case, it would be malicious wasting of police time. The police are stretched like never before due to cuts - it’s simply not on to pull stunts like this and divert from genuine work.

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 07/10/2018 09:32

RealGhouls

Isn't it a bit fucking massive? That horse? Looks very calm, but it's the size of a horse!

Grin

Literally

Thanks to the horse person I went down a rabbit hole of police animals. I think this police dog is rather lovely.

FermatsTheorem · 07/10/2018 09:46

That is a lovely police horse.

A thought has suddenly struck me re that "10 reasons why you really should" leaflet.

Often on here we get women who have been raped. (Which, IMO, is a misogynistic hate crime). We will also get a handful of posters who say "it is your duty to other potential victims to report". However the general consensus is always "you have to decide what would be most helpful to you - we all know the reasons why women don't report, and know they're damn good ones. If you feel strong enough, or feel it would help bring you closure, then go ahead. But if you feel it would add to the trauma, then don't." It's very much couched as an individual choice based on what works best for the victim against a fairly shitty misogynistic background, not as a political duty towards the movement.

HumberElla · 07/10/2018 10:09

Thanks for the update BristolThree and hopefully this will have demonstrated further to everyone who witnessed it what TRA’s mean exactly when they call in hate crimes.
It makes me cross to think that this will inevitably affect how the police view calls from people who are genuinely being threatened.

I’m also giggling at Horrible Histories now “Literalleeeeeee”!

Badgerthebodger · 07/10/2018 10:19

Thanks BristolThree well done! Great to hear such a positive response from the GP generally. I bet they’ve been badly shaken by the Challenor business and there’ll be a lot of people who heartily wish their party had never heard of the aggressive TRAs who seem to be so well embedded
