In fact even better than that, Woman's Place UK and Transgender Trend will be going too.

I (Nicola Williams) will be one of the three women attending in order to answer MP’s questions about how proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act will affect women’s rights.

Womans Place UK and Fair Play For Women have both requested to meet with Penny Mordaunt, Minister for Women and Equalities, to represent the concerns and questions of the thousands of women who support us, but have not been granted a meeting.

So, we are taking the meeting to the House of Commons to give Penny Mordaunt, and all MPs, the opportunity to meet us, ask questions and hear our views. All they need to do is drop in and meet us. This is the opportunity for MPs to hear the voices of women concerned by these changes and to increase their knowledge about this subject in a calm, confidential environment.

Every MP has received a formal invitation for this meeting but we need YOU to make sure they come. Please email your constituency MP telling them that you support us and ask them to confirm to you that they will attend this meeting.

You can find your MPs details here www.writetothem.com/
Email them this weekend before their diaries get filled. The meeting is just 10 days from now.

Meeting: How will changes to the Gender Recognition Act affect women’s rights? Tuesday 16th October 2018 at 10:30am until 12:30pm in Room S, House of Commons

Right. Ive put my big girl pants on and sent it.

borntobequiet · 07/10/2018 08:52

I must be lucky because my MP always responds when I email giving my name and address. She forwarded one of my queries to Lord Callanan and I got a two page personal screed from him! - all complete guff but I suppose well meant. She doesn’t seem to be able to do anything but toe the Govt line re Brexit, but I think she might be on board with women’s rights.
Those of you with non responding MPs, is it worth complaining to party HQ about them and saying that they are such rubbish constituency MPs that you will never vote for them but for the closest opposition instead? Copy them in!

Redkeyboard · 07/10/2018 08:53

Well done Biology

It all makes a difference.

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 07/10/2018 09:46

Biology

I understand. I can't seem to stop emailing people now though. After that first time

Juells · 07/10/2018 09:49

HRTFT but hope you have security on the door to prevent invasion.

Redkeyboard · 07/10/2018 09:51

House of Commons is pretty hot on security Juells so in that venue of all venues should be fine.

The only weapons TRA can take in the palace of Westminster are the lady ducks they threaten women on Twitter with.

ChattyLion · 07/10/2018 09:56

Excellent! and excellent joint working too. I’ve emailed my MP as well. Smile

Datun · 07/10/2018 10:03

If people are being ignored by their MP (or anyone else actually), it's worth also sending a paper copy of your email or a copy letter in the post. Especially if they employ gatekeepers (assistants).

In this day and age, an actual piece of paper is harder to ignore. And also write on the email that a hard copy is in the post and on the letter that it was emailed on such and such a date.

Bit of a pain, I know, but it's worth making it as hard as possible to dismiss. Or 'lose'.

Sparkyduchess · 07/10/2018 10:31

Done - thanks Nic for all you do ❤️

CuriousaboutSamphire · 07/10/2018 10:42

Done,

I expect to get a generic response from his office, who may be sick of me at the moment as I chivvied them on Thursday Smile

Floisme · 07/10/2018 11:04

Done.

Budgieinaberet · 07/10/2018 11:16

Done. Thanks. I have mentioned my association to women's sport, as it seems ridiculous to think that men and women should do certain sports together.
Would you like me to pm you the name of my MP ?

BingBongSong · 07/10/2018 12:08

Thanks, DoctorW,

I have written to my MP to ask him to attend. I've been disappointed with his reponse to my previous communication, but have asked him to confirm whether or not he intends to go to the meeting.

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 07/10/2018 12:30

Thanks for doing this meeting. Getting a bit confused between threads Smile, this is what I wrote on the other one, as per Datun's advice will send hard copy registered mail so he can't "lose" this.

"Done, also not hopeful given his response. I did stress that my email was invite enough just in case he didn't get one as saying he hadn't received it seems his style (he claimed to have lost my first email even though I have an office autoreply). Getting more angry by the day."

agennaro · 07/10/2018 12:32

Done.

I know that he has previously answered correspondence from my husband regarding street lights so would hope to get an answer from this!

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 07/10/2018 13:26

bump

You don't have to write anything other than inviting them to attend the meeting, if you don't want to.

ArkeNOTen · 07/10/2018 14:01

Worth reiterating that you absolutely must put your name and address and phone number in communications with MPs - they have to represent their constituents and need to know you are one of theirs.

Mine is a notable feminist MP and I don’t know her views but I’m going to google before composing something

QueenCartimandua · 07/10/2018 14:18

I've emailed my MP. Male, Labour. Feel a bit nervous, although I don't know why.

PlonitbatPlonit · 07/10/2018 14:39

Thank you everyone emailing MPs - it really makes a difference!

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 07/10/2018 14:57

I've emailed mine. I hold no hope as I've emailed him before on these matters and have had the generic party line of "we are committed to inclusivity" schtick but it's always worth a punt.

concretesieve · 07/10/2018 15:15

Bump.

Arke Thank you for that info 're address and phone no.

I've just emailed my MP - I've been in contact with him in the past and know him slightly. I was a bit surprised to receive a very courteous request for my postal address but this explains it.

UpstartCrow · 07/10/2018 16:00

Have done, I'll report back if I get a response. Dont hold your breath, my Labour MP is not sympathetic.

Moominfan · 07/10/2018 16:15

Badstyliy wish I saw your letter first. My email wasn't quite so articulate Grin

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 07/10/2018 16:59

Is the phone number essential? I put name and address, didn't realise they needed a phone number too?
