In fact even better than that, Woman's Place UK and Transgender Trend will be going too.

I (Nicola Williams) will be one of the three women attending in order to answer MP’s questions about how proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act will affect women’s rights.

Womans Place UK and Fair Play For Women have both requested to meet with Penny Mordaunt, Minister for Women and Equalities, to represent the concerns and questions of the thousands of women who support us, but have not been granted a meeting.

So, we are taking the meeting to the House of Commons to give Penny Mordaunt, and all MPs, the opportunity to meet us, ask questions and hear our views. All they need to do is drop in and meet us. This is the opportunity for MPs to hear the voices of women concerned by these changes and to increase their knowledge about this subject in a calm, confidential environment.

Every MP has received a formal invitation for this meeting but we need YOU to make sure they come. Please email your constituency MP telling them that you support us and ask them to confirm to you that they will attend this meeting.

You can find your MPs details here www.writetothem.com/
Email them this weekend before their diaries get filled. The meeting is just 10 days from now.

Meeting: How will changes to the Gender Recognition Act affect women’s rights? Tuesday 16th October 2018 at 10:30am until 12:30pm in Room S, House of Commons

Just emailed my mp

rightreckoner · 06/10/2018 18:31

I wrote to my MP, Mark Field, who told me he would forward my letter to the equalities minister. I told him I’d rather have him understand the issues since Penny With No Thoughts has already decided she doesn’t care about womb type women. I’ve asked to meet him but I’ll also suggest he goes to this.

Done. Would it be helpful if we post or Pm you the names of our MPs so you know which have received the additional invitation from constituents?

Badstyley · 06/10/2018 19:57

All done, although how much good it’ll do I don’t know. This is what I wrote

I’m sure you’ve heard by now about the government consultation on the controversial amendments to the Gender Recognition Act 2004. I, and many other people I know in the area are deeply concerned that if passed, sex self ID will have a profound detrimental affect on the rights of women and girls to single sex spaces. This will mean that for many women, including myself, our access to public life will be severely limited due to fears over our safety, privacy and dignity.

Up until this point, less than two weeks before the close of the consultation, MPs have refused to meet with the wonderful women of the grassroots organisations that have been working so hard to raise awareness and represent the interests of women throughout the length and breadth of the country.

Fair Play For Women, Woman’s Place UK and Transgender Trend are holding a meeting in The House Of Commons on the 16th of October where you can drop in for a chat in a calm and confidential environment. I would be very grateful if you could give some of your time to visit with them and hear what they have to say. The meeting will be held in room S, and will take place from 10:30 to 12:30.

Please could you drop me a line to confirm that you intend to attend this meeting. This is a very important issue and it is weighing very heavily on many womens’ minds, so much so that I, and many other women I know locally will be guided by the response to this issue when considering political affiliations in the future. I personally have already ended my membership of The Labour Party over their stance on this, and won’t hesitate to place my vote elsewhere in the future if I feel that my concerns are not being given due consideration.

He already had forwarded to her in response to my previous letter - and had forgotten I think. But what the hell she can get it again - and be asked to attend !

GeneticTest · 06/10/2018 20:20

I work for an MP. He is hoping to go, but may send a researcher if other stuff gets busy.

It’s great that you are there.

And great to see FPFW outside Tory conference.

There are more MPs sympathetic than you might think.

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 06/10/2018 20:48

bump

BeetrootBonanza · 06/10/2018 20:51

I have just emailed my MP to request they attend this. Thank you for highlighting it.

rightreckoner · 06/10/2018 20:56

genetic that's good to know. Can they please give us a secret sign because we are feeling a little underwhelmed by their leadership on this.

Hullabalooo · 06/10/2018 21:07

Have emailed my mp

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 06/10/2018 21:36

Thanks for the information. E-mail sent to my MP, who I used to really admire but who has been disappointingly cowardly on this subject.

DayMay · 06/10/2018 21:38

Thank you for doing this.

Sent to my MP.

Galvantula · 06/10/2018 22:04

Done. Emailed my (feckin SNP) MP.

Sent link to fpfw and maybe rambled a bit Blush Hopefully coherently.

Cuntysnark · 06/10/2018 22:07

Done. Pretty brief but succinct

EmilieDuChatelet · 06/10/2018 22:22

Done. Hope all goes well on the day.

DoYouLikeBasghetti · 06/10/2018 22:27
