In fact even better than that, Woman's Place UK and Transgender Trend will be going too.

I (Nicola Williams) will be one of the three women attending in order to answer MP’s questions about how proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act will affect women’s rights.

Womans Place UK and Fair Play For Women have both requested to meet with Penny Mordaunt, Minister for Women and Equalities, to represent the concerns and questions of the thousands of women who support us, but have not been granted a meeting.

So, we are taking the meeting to the House of Commons to give Penny Mordaunt, and all MPs, the opportunity to meet us, ask questions and hear our views. All they need to do is drop in and meet us. This is the opportunity for MPs to hear the voices of women concerned by these changes and to increase their knowledge about this subject in a calm, confidential environment.

Every MP has received a formal invitation for this meeting but we need YOU to make sure they come. Please email your constituency MP telling them that you support us and ask them to confirm to you that they will attend this meeting.

You can find your MPs details here www.writetothem.com/
Email them this weekend before their diaries get filled. The meeting is just 10 days from now.

Meeting: How will changes to the Gender Recognition Act affect women’s rights? Tuesday 16th October 2018 at 10:30am until 12:30pm in Room S, House of Commons

Emailed mine. God, I hope they listen.

Badstyley · 06/10/2018 23:01

Oh god Do You, thanks for pointing that out. Please go ahead.

ShcfG · 06/10/2018 23:04

Shall email my constituency MP tomorrow.

But also - if you're in Wales: Plaid Cymru has had a change of leadership recently. Leanne Wood ("..outdated ideas of biology", yes, that one) has been replaced by Adam Price (nothing encouraging so far, but it's early days).
It might be a good time to remind the Plaid Leader that he should be speaking for all in Wales, including women. And that if he did speak out against this madness, he could well increase his party's vote.

Have I got this right - the Minister for Women has refused to meet with women?

The same Minister for Women who met with Stonewall the other day?

Just before the GRA consultation closes?

I don’t know where to begin.

Yes I will email my MP although I will wait till tomorrow as I don’t want to say anything I might regret.

Thank you.

MajesticWhine · 06/10/2018 23:23

done. Thank you.

DoctorW · 06/10/2018 23:47

QueenYnci · 07/10/2018 02:57

Done.

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/10/2018 02:58

This is excellent news!

I will be emailing my MP later today.

DayMay · 07/10/2018 04:14

It sounds like she's made her mind up TWAW and will push it through ASAP. Angry

I don't see how Penny Mordaunt could push it through, there is a process involved, and quite a lengthy one, from what I understand. It's incredibly shocking she is refusing to meet with grassroots women's groups. Awful, in fact.

I've emailed my MP and will be poking him quite regularly to get a response. I've been writing to him off and on since March and have yet to receive a substantive reply.

Floisme · 07/10/2018 07:48

It’s the brazen partisanship that I can’t get past - refusing to meet with women in the same week she addressed a Stonewall event. Sorry, I know I’m just repeating what I wrote upthread but I can’t believe she’s got the brass neck.

borntobequiet · 07/10/2018 07:52

I sent a further email with a link to the Times article (bumping).

Danaquestionseverything · 07/10/2018 08:04

Good Luck. Women the world over are watching the happenings in the UK very closely.

BiologyMatters · 07/10/2018 08:07

I want to email my mp but I'm afraid of repurcussions. I guess that's all the more reason to do it. He's a Tory, so hopefully he won't have swallowed the tra propaganda? Is there anyway to find out?

oneWeirdReSister · 07/10/2018 08:11

Google his name and see what comes up? Read his twitter?

TorchesTorches · 07/10/2018 08:20

I have just emailed my MP. She ignored me when I emailed her about Brexit, and she ignored me when I emailed her about the GRA 3 weeks ago. I look forward to her ignoring me again.... I would definitely appreciate a list of the MPs who attended the meeting. A willingness to listen is very instructive. Would such a list be available afterwards or is that not a good idea?

Redkeyboard · 07/10/2018 08:20

Biology what are you worried will happen if you email him?

BiologyMatters · 07/10/2018 08:27

Not sure what could happen.. I've never contacted my mp about anything before and i suffer from severe anxiety (funnily enough it as initially caused by male violence) so always catastrophize and the self id stuff triggers it. Up till now I've kind of just tried to peak people I know in real life. Emailing my mp is something totally new to me.

Redkeyboard · 07/10/2018 08:41

That’s understandable that you feel that way.

Your MP’s job is to listen to and represent you though. The worst thing that could happen is they ignore the email.
