Woman, 41, pretended to be a boy to groom a girl

Jacinta Brooks is a serial paedophile

metro.co.uk/2018/10/01/trans-woman-pretended-to-be-a-boy-to-groom-a-girl-7994533/

"Prosecutor Berenice Mulvanny said that police found screenshots of the conversation with the girl along with hundreds of child abuse pictures. Brooks gave no comment during a police interview but admitted she ‘couldn’t argue’ about being attracted to children. Miss Mulvanny said: ‘Brooks knew the girl was underage but sent her sexual messages. The defendant originally pretended to be a 14-year-old boy but soon admitted her real age.’

Anne Ruzylo is bloody brilliant. I wish mainstream media would put her in charge of a decent piece of investigative journalism.

Popchyk · 01/10/2018 20:50

Yeah, I do wonder what is behind the thinking that some male sex offenders who identify as women go to women's prisons.

And some male sex offenders who identify as women go to men's prisons.

Wonder what exactly the criteria is?

I'm guessing we'll see lawsuits from some of the male sex offenders who identify as women for discrimination on the part of the prison service. And they'll probably win.

OvaHere · 01/10/2018 20:57

Reading the twitter thread it suggests that the Judge in the case actually dismissed the claims of being a woman (hence the male prison) but the reporting has come about because of the media agreement about respectful reporting of trans people.

I think the media agreement stems from a HoC meeting with leading editors some time ago and Trans Media Watch.

So even though it's patently ridiculous they've ended up with their hands tied.

@R0wantrees probably has the links on this one if I've remembered correctly.

GurlwiththeCurl · 01/10/2018 21:06

Just adding my WTF on here too. Suffering from brain ache with all this nonsense.

Where are the ploppers? And a certain large mouse-like poster?

TheTrickyWitch · 01/10/2018 21:07

OvaHere
I wonder how genuinely the hands of the press are tied though? Presumably they didn't sign any thing legally binding?

Perhaps the more GC newspapers would consider a rethink based on ridiculous examples like this?

Popchyk · 01/10/2018 21:10

The problem with the media agreement is that people will get pissed off at not being told the truth and start using sites like Breitbart and Kiwifarms. And that will almost certainly fuel a backlash against the so-called liberal media outlets that can't bring themselves to utter the truth.

And those media outlets who insist on a transgender positive narrative (BBC and The Guardian being the worst) can hardly complain about losing readership and viewers. Because, you know, they caused the problems for themselves.

Amazing that the government and most media sources have just meekly bowed down to this.

I fear that a mixture of corruption, greed and stupidity is at the heart of it.

OvaHere · 01/10/2018 21:11

True. It's probably not legally binding but I remember they were all getting a hauling over the coals for hate speech so perhaps they don't want to land back in front of the committee.

R0wantrees · 01/10/2018 21:12

My understanding is that it is more usual for a convicted prisoner such as this to be sent to male estate especially if no GRC.
He can then apply for transfer to female estate. The case goes to a 'transgender panel' I think who make a decision.

THere was a Westminster briefing document released mid September outlining this:

OvaHere · 01/10/2018 21:14

I found the original thread about the HoC committee

ThefusilliJerry · 01/10/2018 21:19

Respectful reporting?? Since when did being a filthy fucking paedo bit lose you every shred of entitlement to respect in our society??

TheTrickyWitch · 01/10/2018 21:21

Thanks OvaHere

So it's the Ipsos code of conduct that's the issue and presumably individual papers are unlikely to break ranks on this.
I don't suppose it's very likely we could influence Ipsos.

That MP in the committee is yet another of the woke blokes throwing women's rights under the bus. So angry with them all Angry

BeenHereAWhileNow · 01/10/2018 21:22

Vicky it's like scratching a really bad itch, isn't it

A temporary relief but now I need to scratch again.

This doublespeak has my pronouns all over the place irl now

AdultHumanFemaleBirdsEye · 01/10/2018 21:22

And a certain large mouse-like poster?

On another thread.

R0wantrees · 01/10/2018 21:23

I don't suppose it's very likely we could influence Ipsos.

Why not?

If there is clear evidence here about the (perhaps unintentional) consequences of their current guidance. They need to review.

BeenHereAWhileNow · 01/10/2018 21:23

Sarahjconnor 'rant' away although I'd call it an entirely justifiable grumble Flowers

AdultHumanFemaleBirdsEye · 01/10/2018 21:24

Has anyone made a list of TWAW MPs, maybe keep it handy for the next GE?

OvaHere · 01/10/2018 21:24

Respectful reporting?? Since when did being a filthy fucking paedo bit lose you every shred of entitlement to respect in our society??

This is where we are at though. It's an all or nothing thing isn't it? Either we believe TWAW or they are not. This is the reality of self ID.

Thread on this over on AIBU: 81 posts.

Thread of (for example) 'AIBU to ask what social class I am' - 573 posts.

A thread about a predatory paedophile on Mumsnet AIBU and most women there are "Meh..."

Start a thread about their kid's teacher looking at them in a funny way, mind, and it's in the hundreds in minutes.

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 01/10/2018 21:28

VickyEadie - yep.

VickyEadie · 01/10/2018 21:38

'TO ask what you've eaten today (or will eat)' is at 170 posts...

GurlwiththeCurl · 01/10/2018 21:39

The title of the AIBU thread is a bit vague, so perhaps it’s nit getting enough clicks.

HalloumiGus · 01/10/2018 21:46

Is this for real?

Wtf?!

AngeloMysterioso · 01/10/2018 21:50

The title of the AIBU thread is a bit vague, so perhaps it’s nit getting enough clicks.

That was my assumption- the AIBU title is “AIBU to say this person shouldn’t be allowed...” doesn’t really encourage people to read the thread

kooshbin · 01/10/2018 21:58

Winchester prison is a category B and Young Offenders' (18+) prison. I understand it only holds convicted prisoners who are serving shortish sentences, plus those on remand for Winchester and Southampton Crown Courts.

Given this has been sentenced to 11 years, I suspect it will be transferred to a longer-stay prison. Time will tell which estate it will be housed in.
