What gender is your dog or cat?

So I had to insure my moms dog over the weekend and I went with Tesco . I asked and asked the dog what gender it was but it just licked my hand and gazed at the treat jar. I went with female and she seems happy with that.

Seriously though, this madness now applies to animals? Tesco pet insurance need to sort their shit out

Tekken - no need to feel ashamed, you just know more than your daughter does. Happens quite often when you're a mum.

Our groomer has different cologne spray things for dogs and bitches. Should I report her to someone?

It's not like there were alternative options to male or female in their question... I would say with some confidence that Tesco doesn't have a wider agenda in their 'incorrect' use of language in their online insurance form.

If someone isn't up to date with the latest dictionary definition for your argument, or what is politically correct to say in your wider discussion why not politely explain your concerns rather than find a stick to beat them with, for not being personally offended by the use of the word gender in an online pet insurance form. Take the moral high ground.

@Tekken. I always want my children to keep an open mind, even when my kids have come home preaching about God, I have always explained that their are many different beliefs out there and should seek themselves before the decide.

I Am struggling with youngest ‘teachers word is law’ mum is wrong especially as I now live in place that sees a southern as an outsider, also this child is very easy influenced

This stuff has messed with my head that I’ve doubted maybe I am wrong but then I remember cults and those who preach ‘their views’ that surpresses others is wrong.

I made a boo boo, turns out the dog has just been trying to hump my moms neighbours boy dog so is likely male and gay.

Tesco will pay for the corrective surgery right? and the hormones? Its his right after all....or will they just give a mini chichi strap on ? but he would likely chew that.

@ErrolTheDragon thank you for taking the time to explain politely.

Less so @PositivelyPERF Be part of the solution, not the problem.

bellinisurge · 01/10/2018 13:07

@Sarahjconnor - my cat too! Only she's channeling her inner Gabor when she presents herself to the world rather than her inner [insert name of town].
Her gender is "I'll do what I want".

There was a cat that the DH and I used to see on the way to work that we named Greebo, because it looked like, well, Greebo. Eventually stopped to say hello and it turned out Greebo was a girl!

We started calling her Greeba, but I feel this may not have shown sufficient deference to her gender identity. Please advise?

XXaghast · 01/10/2018 13:12

AAK, probably best to stick with "they" as in "their royal highness" until further notice.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 01/10/2018 13:12

Sorry, rogue post.

Musseswoofles, it’s sex if the animal. Sex. Sex.

Simple. No need for euphemisms.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 01/10/2018 13:14

Oh dear is it national patronise and condescend to GC women day?

Broken11Girl · 01/10/2018 13:15

Madam BrokenCat identifies as Queen cat of the world, who must be obeyed and served.
Mademoiselle identifies as...she doesn't give a crap as long as she gets food, cuddles and toys to run around after. She is clearly a trans dog and I must respect that. I will buy her dog food and a lead immediately.

Accepting the manipulation of language that helps to erode women’s rights, is not being ‘part of the solution’. Accepting gender in place of sex is a willingness to capitulate to those that state a women is a feeling.

AngryAttackKittens · 01/10/2018 13:17

I attempted to get my old cat to identify as a dog by walking him, but he decided to identify as a dog by chewing on the lead instead. And then had to be picked up and carried home.

The standard of service in that park was disgraceful, clearly.

So tempted to nominate this thread for Classics.

I have a harness and lead for my cat in case she identifies as a dog. She generally identifies as a ninja.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/10/2018 13:35

We once met a bloke out walking his rabbit, if rabbits can be said to walk. He assured us that dogs treated the rabbit as if it was another dog, encouraged mine to say hello... well, my dog had never bitten another dog on the bum before so, sorry, CIR (canine identified rabbit) didn't pass. Fortunately the dog was evidently temporarily identifying as a lab. rather then a dobie so it was a soft harmless bite.

(Just so you can complete the mental image of this encounter the bloke also had a parrot on one shoulder and a cockatoo on the other.)

AngryAttackKittens · 01/10/2018 13:37

Did he also have a wooden leg?

placemats · 01/10/2018 13:37

we all speak to her in deferential tones and let her have the nice cushion.

Maybe he identifies as a tree. 🌲

BertrandRussell · 01/10/2018 13:39

Toulouse-Lautrec used to walk down the Champes Elysee with a lobster on a lead. I suspect both he and the lobster were identifying as pretentious arses.....

AdoraBell · 01/10/2018 13:44

One of my dogs is a boy. Even after having his bollocks chopped off, he still insists on being a boy. Pisses up the plants in the garden and any visitors cars, he will not squat like the girls do Hmm
