What gender is your dog or cat?

So I had to insure my moms dog over the weekend and I went with Tesco . I asked and asked the dog what gender it was but it just licked my hand and gazed at the treat jar. I went with female and she seems happy with that.

Seriously though, this madness now applies to animals? Tesco pet insurance need to sort their shit out

What gender is your dog or cat?

😂 loving this thread!

I think my dog currently identifies as male. I’ve never asked but I’ve never seen him play with pink toys so he must be right? However, tomorrow he is going to be neutered, so presumably he will then be a trans-bitch. Or are trans-bitches bitches? (TBAB)

My dog identifies as a cat...which box should I tick on the form?

FlowerpotFairyHouse · 01/10/2018 15:06

Fortunately, I was able to register my rabbits' sexes at the vets.

Which is good.

Because my rabbits can't speak. Any of them. Ergo, I am unable to ascertain their genders and would hate to commit "literal violence" against them by misgendering them.

I love my bunnies.

of course they need to ask what gender your dog is

Animals don't have a gender. They have a sex. Very different things.

Our cat was sold to us as a female but ended up actually male. Then we got his nadgers cut off, and he is still referred to as she and is named Bella.

Ddog ids as "good boi ".

ChilliJamandAvocado · 01/10/2018 15:41

My dog constantly gets misgendered... he is very pretty, so everyone calls him a girl. Maybe his gender is "pretty boy" Grin

This will out me if any of the neighbours are reading, but we do actually have a transgender cat in the neighbourhood. A giant fluffball empress of a feline, who would give Catherine the Great a run for her money, named Mr Cat Grin

bellinisurge · 01/10/2018 16:03

I know a couple of transgender cats. Given male names but turned out to be female.

PipGoesPop · 01/10/2018 16:30

My pussy is most definitely female

My poor old lady has had some pretty major surgery lately, and I must admit I was really annoyed by the vets a number of times as they frequently referred to her as "he". I know she has a neutral name, but it just made me feel that if they weren't paying attention to such a basic fact, they might also not be paying attention to other things like her weight, kidney disease status and so on. She lives to fight (for my lap) another day, but it won't be long now, and it seemed a bit disrespectful to me as an owner/client who was clearly upset at knowing I'll be saying goodbye to my companion of the last 20 years soon, a creature my children have never known life without.

Words matter. Sad

Thanks. Sorry to be a downer - this is a very funny thread, do carry on because it really outlines the absurdity Smile Words really do matter, though, and thinking more about it in this context just makes me annoyed all over again about the appropriation aspect.

TheCuriousMonkey · 01/10/2018 18:13

Dunno about the cat's gender (sex is female) but the four year old spent half the weekend insisting he was the cat. We had to refer to him as "cat's name" (which is a girl's name) while he crawled around on the floor speaking in a whiny "cat voice" and eating "cat food" (raisins in a bowl on the floor).

He was clearly wrongly assigned male human at birth and is really a female cat.

Is there anywhere I can take him for gender and species reassignment?

KatVonGulag · 01/10/2018 18:16

I've always been interested that my rabbits are charged at different rates for insurance, despite everything else being equal.
Apparently this is because males are more risky.

I think this blatant anti male nonsense should stop. My rabbit "female" is actually dominant and enjoys humping the "male".

How DARE they assume gender.
This is never ending.

@TheCuriousMonkey that day is coming Sad

FesteringCarbuncle · 01/10/2018 18:21

My dog identifies as stupid
One cat identifies as a psychopath. The other is polite and we'll rounded and has no time for identity politics

FesteringCarbuncle · 01/10/2018 18:23

Actually my well rounded cat was mis sexed and assumed to be male
She let out a howl of protest at the vets at being mis sexed. Or it could have been because the vet was groping for her non existent balls

MrsSnippyPants · 01/10/2018 18:33

One of my dogs is frequently mistaken for a girl. He has no issues with it and I feel certain that if you asked him what his hobbies are, he would say "Long walks on the beach, then home for a nice glass of Chablis in a warm bubble bath. And fox poo; rolling in or eating it, don't care"

But remember: don't anthropomorphise animals, they don't like it Wink

LittleMissedTheSunshine · 01/10/2018 19:00

I have a boy cat but he's been neutered so that makes him... non binary? agender?

MamaJune · 01/10/2018 19:07

This thread has made me laugh no end!

Emerencealwayshopeful · 02/10/2018 06:34

My female dog is black and has a ‘masculine’ name - according to most who hear it.

Generally she is assumed to be male when scruffy and when recently groomed is pretty - and called a ‘good girl’ or ‘pretty girl’.

But I’ve asked and she refuses to tell me her gender preference so I will continue to treat her as female despite occcasionally humping people’s legs and her need to mark when walking through dog parks.

Jenala · 02/10/2018 06:47

One of my cats was sold to me as a male (rescue) but upon further examination by a bigoted vet was assigned female. However, they love to hunt and don't really like cuddles and can be quite aggressive. Therefore I feel that this is a rare case where the sex the cat was originally assigned - male - is correct. The cat does not have a penis however and the vet is unwilling to consider transition, so I use they pronouns for now until I can find a more inclusive vet.

KittyKlawsReturns · 02/10/2018 09:51

My cat strongly identifies with being a tiger. Gender is irrelevant, hunting is not.

KittyKlawsReturns · 02/10/2018 09:53

However, they love to hunt and don't really like cuddles

Ah your kitty is similar to my kitty (although she makes an exception for my youngest who is 'The Chosen One')
