Shocking levels of transphobia

I have been lurking here for a while and reading through the posts on a daily basis. I am truly shocked with the levels of transphobia that exist on this board. I have read what has been posted and the arguments that have been put across against the reform of the Gender Recognition Act; and all I see are the same arguments that have been used in the past when it came to changes in the laws relating to any other minority. That being that predators will exploit this change to abuse women/girls, yet everytime this has happened in the past the claims that they would did not come to fruition.

I can see no change as to how things would be any different with this change. As now things currently stand trans women can already use womens toilets, are put on ladies wards in hospitals when getting treatment, can use female changing facilities in swimming baths and so on. This has been happening for decades and Armageddon hasn't happened.

There are many other areas of life that this energy could be and should be directed at, which would make a huge difference to the lives of women. Without victimizing and stigmatizing a minority group that already suffers enough as it is.

There's no point in engaging with anyone who uses the 'transphobe' accusation, that's all they've got. They don't read anything that might burst their woke bubble.

I suggest you don't read Pistonheads then. Or Kiwifarms. Or Datalounge. Or LSA. Or Daily mail comments. Or Youtube comments. Or most of twitter. Or talk to the over 80% of the general public that don't support self ID...
See how this works?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 29/09/2018 09:52

scrimshaw

Absolutely

But loads of posts on here refer to tansfolk....and then they talk about people

So if they used folk all the time id understand it, but it only seems to be trans folk (with some posters)

We lived in Scotland for 7/8 years and when we moved south my mum especially had words she continued to use like 'ken' and 'greeting' for crying (apologies for any mispelling)

Juells · 29/09/2018 09:54

'Folk' sounds so homely...

calpop · 29/09/2018 09:56

Its so transparent isn't it? Trying to clutter up the FWR message board with "transphobic" and "transphobe" and "shocking" titles. Do you really think the women that come here are so easily fooled OP? Oh no, you've done your daily TRA/handmaiden task and have now gone out shopping. No need to eleborate or explain.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 29/09/2018 09:57

I believe that the OP may have a cake to ice or a child to put to bed, calpop.

terryleather · 29/09/2018 09:58

Every time I read posts like the op I hear this in my head.

Anlaf · 29/09/2018 09:59

Define transphobia op.

Please do report any posts you see that are transphobic.

I think this board shocks people because it's the first time they see male violence recognised and discussed, and it's so unfamiliar that they assume we're cherry picking stories about trans people to make them seem evil.

Male people commit astonishing levels of crime.

99% of sexual offenders including rape, sexual assault, sexual activity with a child and exposure and voyeurism,
94% of murderers,
93% of stalkers (and the same for bleachers of harassment orders and putting people of fear of violence)
98% of those convicted of coercion and control in a family relationship

Are male.

(all of this from the moj stats for sentencing in England and Wales)

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 29/09/2018 09:59

Oh the OP hasn't been back Hmm

Anlaf · 29/09/2018 10:01

*breachers

Has anyone posted Jane clare Jones on why this is nothing like the struggle for gay civil rights?

Nondescriptname · 29/09/2018 10:02

All of these decent law abiding people are horrified by these Activists and like all our friends are vehemently opposed to self id !

Not so.
I recently attended a book-signing event where long-term transwoman Christine Burns gave a short talk.
www.amazon.co.uk/Trans-Britain-Our-Journey-Shadows-ebook/dp/B071NZH98H/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Trans+shadows&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1538211563&sr=8-1

Christine stated their wish that the GRA will soon be reformed despite the 'disease' of objectors.

FruitCider · 29/09/2018 10:03

OP I'm a prison nurse. Violent sex offenders are already infiltrating female estates. Men like Ian Huntley are claiming to be female ahead of the changes to the law in an attempt to gain access to women.

THIS IS NOT OK!!!!

ScrimshawTheSecond · 29/09/2018 10:06

Rufus, spelling is kind of mutable in Scots, there's not always one right way of spelling a dialect word. (All of this is, inevitably, much debated!)

Trinity1976 · 29/09/2018 10:07

I have just been looking for that very article, Anlaf.

It makes the point well.

OP - I know you would like to think that the people on this board who are against Self-ID are the same people (or same kind of people) who were against gay rights a decade or two ago. Sorry to disappoint you, but I think you will find that most people here are pro-gay rights. In fact some of the same people who are against self-ID are the same people who actively campaigned for gay rights when they were younger.

It's easy to dismiss gender critical people as bigots. I find it unlikely you really have lurked for a long time. If you had been doing so, you would have an understanding of the arguments and would see that they are not the same as the arguments against other minorities, as you put it.

Also, if our views are so transphobic, why is it that many old-school transexuals are on the same page as us on this issue? Can you explain that?

AngryAttackKittens · 29/09/2018 10:11

In my experience a disproportionate percentage of women who're GC are lesbians, most likely because lesbians were targeted first and harder than anyone else has been by TRAs. TRA activism is homophobic to the core.

TinyRick · 29/09/2018 10:16

Or Kiwifarms. Or Datalounge

Some very interesting stuff on these sites, though.

What is 'LSA'?

And in regards to 'folk', don't forget the more gender neutral 'folx' 🙄

Nondescriptname · 29/09/2018 10:24

Constantly going on about "folk" in mod posts, would folk please observe the guidlines etc. Please desist. I find it triggering and literal violence againt my personal sensibilities.

Where I live, in a part of the UK, the fk word is often used to mean people. We are quite used to it and don't think it's twee at all.
However, in respect to those who feel triggered by its apparent tweeness, I will try not to say f
k in future.

Ps, another, quite different f**k word is also in common use. Is it okay to keep using that one?

FloralBunting · 29/09/2018 10:29

I have been known to use folk. I say don't let 'em have it. Obviously I'm not as territorial about word appropriation on this as I am about them nicking 'Woman', but I'm still not inclined to cede 'folk' as part of my wider vocab.

calpop · 29/09/2018 10:30

you know that that was joke right? Unlike many on Twitter, I dont actually get "triggered" (whatever that actually is? according to my children its being asked to do your homework) by people having different opinions to me or, indeed, using words I find annoying. Crack on. I'm a big girl and I can deal with it.

FloralBunting · 29/09/2018 10:35

calpop, I think it's fair to assume we are all posting with our tongues firmly in our cheeks given that this plopping thread is not really worth engaging with seriously.

calpop · 29/09/2018 10:44

true 😁 I must go and do something useful with my life like the AWOL OP as well.

trenchant · 29/09/2018 10:59

brief de-lurk to say that 'foxyliz26' is the shittest man-pretending to be lesbian I've seen on here. honestly 0/10 for effort.

otterturk · 29/09/2018 11:04

Yawn

noeffingidea · 29/09/2018 11:05

TinyRick Lipstick alley, it's a site primarily used by black women. It was originally based on showbiz gossip but they've extended their interests a lot since the beginning.

Yep. You can spot 'em a mile off.
