Or so I have just seen on twitter.

C'moooon Nic! We're all rooting for you!

OP posts:
Melamin · 27/09/2018 10:42

The only weapons they have is pulling the heart strings with sob stories and playing on women's socialised skills of trying to be fair and inclusive.

In reality, how is a Guide leader supposed to know who is really trans? It becomes more of a problem as the children get older. If the Guide leader excludes someone who they do not think is trans on a case by case basis, are they open to discipline/being sued by activists? You would have to write a thorough report that would stand up in court to cover your back each time. What about boys who are boys, but prefer doing the 'girl stuff' with the girls - are they excluded?

heresyandwitchcraft · 27/09/2018 10:42

Jesus, it's like once you've heard the arguments once you have heard them a million times. Come up with something new!

OkMaybeNot · 27/09/2018 10:42

I hope they carry on not turning up. I really do.

PiperPublickOccurrences · 27/09/2018 10:43

I did totally agree with the interviewee's point that it's sad that a male child of SEVEN is told that they must be a girl as they don't conform to male stereotypes.

BeyondAdultHumanFemale · 27/09/2018 10:44

The 10 year old male may well have not entered puberty yet - perfectly normal for a male - but female peers will have began their periods by this age (as I had).

KimberWozRobbed · 27/09/2018 10:44

It was enraging that VD kept bringing it back to the 7 year old. It's not about this one child. It's about all the girls who are entitled to a female only experience.

Dr Nic did really well. That was such a hostile interview.

Ooforfoxsakeridesagain · 27/09/2018 10:44

Agreed Piper.

The interviewer (that’s not Vic D is it?) wasn’t giving an inch. Good job Nic is so considered in her response.

But it really did miss a massive point.

It probably unlikely that there will be large numbers of sexual assaults. But there may well be some.

Girls dignity, shared experiences which come from biology alone, ability to be together with their sex, form those relationships which as women are so very important, space to shine and grow is so, so important. And this is being taken away.

cornflakegirl · 27/09/2018 10:45

I was watching on mute with subtitles at work. Thought Nicola came across as really calm and clear.

seafret · 27/09/2018 10:45

Just caught the last few minutes. Well done Nic and thank you.

Interviewer (was not actually Victoria today - don't know who) was horribly biased. Rebutted every point, even the NSPCC's own stats saying that girl children are at risk from boy children, with 'but what about the poor trans kids' by which she of ocurs emeant BOYS, not the girls who will be managed out.

Girls "la la la la" can't hear you. But the poor trans male children (boys) (FFS sake this contorted language)

Very angry with the BBC.

OkMaybeNot · 27/09/2018 10:45

But there may well be some.

That are being considered a small price to pay.

BeyondAdultHumanFemale · 27/09/2018 10:45

At some point, Vic Derbyshire is gonna remove her blinkers, and she's gonna feel darn silly at buying into it for so long.

RichardLongcross · 27/09/2018 10:46

Piper great post.

Also yes how is Lily going to feel if she changes her mind? She's on a one-way ticket now.

This interview has not been good for my blood pressure!

BeyondAdultHumanFemale · 27/09/2018 10:46

(i haven't seen it yet, but I assume being her show she has the most input into direction even if the interviewer wasn't her today)

PiperPublickOccurrences · 27/09/2018 10:47

To be fair to the interviewer (who I think is Joanna Gosling standing in for Victoria Derbyshire), she said in her intro that the BBC had invited on representatives from various organisations to give the opposing view and nobody had agreed to come. So she was going to do her best to give the opposing view herself.

OkMaybeNot · 27/09/2018 10:48

She seemed rather in agreement with them, though. She has a terrible poker face...

Melamin · 27/09/2018 10:48

I agree with Piper and Ooofor - girls' dignity is important and this is being compromised by adults who have clearly forgotten what it is like to be a teenage girl (in spite of the recent survey report by GG Confused )

Ooforfoxsakeridesagain · 27/09/2018 10:49

Yes OkMaybeNot, girls will be collateral damage. One is too many. There will be excuses. ‘She was provocative, so led her on, she was testing the boundaries, its normal for ‘girls’ to experiment’.

It won’t be the trans girls fault, that’s for sure. 😔

Melamin · 27/09/2018 10:49

I don't see why groups need to be represented by the interviewer, if they have refused to come on.

Needmoresleep · 27/09/2018 10:53

Why opposing groups. Why not the GGs themselves.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 27/09/2018 10:53

Did anyone else think it was very telling that Lily's mum said that Guides is meant to be all about teaching girls to be loving and caring?

I don't remember the movement having such overwhelmingly stereotypical aims. I bet nobody describes Scouts that way.
The whole thing made GG basically come across as being a society for making girls know their place and if that is the case I wouldn't want dd anywhere near it even aside from the safeguarding issues.

froomeonthebroom · 27/09/2018 10:55

I think that, although what Nic said was excellent, I think she's missed an opportunity to say that it's the phrase 'self identify' that is important and a threat.

littlbrowndog · 27/09/2018 10:55

Kids at 7 don’t get to chose most things in their lives yet they are followed by camera crew. How does this even be allowed and where are the ethics in this
I feel so sad for the lad that everyone around him is allowing this intrusion into their life

PiperPublickOccurrences · 27/09/2018 10:57

Girl Guiding was invited to send a representative onto the show and declined.

The other important issue is that although Guides are trying to be inclusive to transgirls, this policy is going to impact on some minorities. My daughter has Muslim friends - one wasn't allowed to go swimming with the class as there would be boys there. She was allowed to go to Brownies/Guides as it was female only. There is no way her parents would let her go to camps or sporting activities requiring changing/showering if they thought males would be around.

DJLippy · 27/09/2018 10:58

Did anyone else think it was very telling that Lily's mum said that Guides is meant to be all about teaching girls to be loving and caring?

Yes I did it sounds like they're socialising doormats. I also find something slightly sinister about the language - be kind, be nice. Who else speaks to children like that? Gah! Too much Muggeridge/Dr Em!

arranfan · 27/09/2018 11:02

Whataboutery is no substitute for adequate interview techniques, Joanna Gosling.
