In what other situation do teenage boys get to sleep and undress with girls?

Victoria “well they identify as girls”

FloralBunting · 27/09/2018 10:32

Very telling, to have the BBC putting the anti-woman position to Dr Nic.

heresyandwitchcraft · 27/09/2018 10:33

This kid was 7 when they started identifying as trans. The BBC has been following them. Social transitioning of young children should be done carefully, in case the child later changes their mind.

RichardLongcross · 27/09/2018 10:33

Nic is always so calm, which is great.

WarmWishes · 27/09/2018 10:33

How do we know the other parents were cool with it? What about the ones who silently exclude?

Lily Madigan is a "lesbian" I understand?

How does a child of 7 say “hang on I don’t want to transition anymore” when followed for 3 years by a camera crew?

GulagMilkMonitor · 27/09/2018 10:35

“Two girls can’t get each other pregnant!”

Ha!

deepwatersolo · 27/09/2018 10:35

Why does no one wants to talk about this?? Why are they avoiding coming on to discuss it

Because there is apparently #nodebate. Didn't you get the memo? Societal consensus is not woke, ya know.

WarmWishes · 27/09/2018 10:35

I don't know if I would kick up a stink if my children were going to be in school together for the next 10 years.

Also, the mum wanted somewhere private to change for the trans child! I thought the whole point of the Girl Guide policy is that we are not allowed to separate them!

GulagMilkMonitor · 27/09/2018 10:36

Blimey, Victoria really going in on identity over biology bit!

FloralBunting · 27/09/2018 10:37

Dreadful.

WarmWishes · 27/09/2018 10:37

Nic did great. Well done!

Parents have the right to be able to make their own choices for their children.

Parents taking that choice away and that’s wrong.

Mermaids and Stonewall refused because engaging in the debate suggests trans children are a risk which is not the case.

OkMaybeNot · 27/09/2018 10:39

Quick summary.

"Male children and teenagers are a risk to their female peers"
"But they feel like females!"
"But they're still male"
"But why would they be a risk if they feel like girls?!"
"Because they're still male"
"But they identify as girls"
"They're still male"

PiperPublickOccurrences · 27/09/2018 10:39

I felt quite cross watching this as she focused solely on the potential for sexual abuse and the "risk".

I'm the mum of a Guide and for me it's not about that. It's about the fact that as a 13 year old my daughter is mortified about her changing body. She is exceptionally self-conscious and coming to terms with things like body hair and periods. If there were a transgirl in her Guides and going to camp, she wouldn't want to go. Not because she'd be afraid that the transgirl would leap on her and rape her, but because Guides is her safe space with women and girls only.

She has two brothers - she knows what boys are about and values that two hours a week when she's with girls only.

Why should the rights of my child (and all the other girls in the troop) to have that girl-only environment, sleep in tents with girls, shower with girls or do activities with girls be thrown out of the window to accommodate one other child who has the options of joining Scouts or another similar group? Doesn't she matter?

Ooforfoxsakeridesagain · 27/09/2018 10:39

There’s a massive difference between a 7 yo trans girl in Brownies and a 15 yo trans girl in Guides.

GGUK now need to change their terms to a ‘mixed sex’ organisation.

OkMaybeNot · 27/09/2018 10:40

Like bashing your head off a brick wall.

Well done Nic.

VaguelyAware · 27/09/2018 10:40

Interesting that none of the trans rights groups were available to defend their position. Is this part of their #NoDebate policy? Or were they afraid that their arguments don't stand up to scrutiny?

FloralBunting · 27/09/2018 10:40

Clearly, after Harrop's fail and Susie Green not winning over Piers Morgan, they are licking their wounds and have decided that #NoDebate is the best defence.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 27/09/2018 10:41

I was so angry about the uncritical way the TRA argument was presented by the journalist. If they don't show up, that's their issue, it's not up to the BBC to then become their mouthpiece. Arguing there was no evidence that trans teens were a risk because of their identity. What utter codswallop!

rememberatime · 27/09/2018 10:41

The blind "but they are a girl!" rhetoric is so unintelligent. You just come across as stupid if you fail to acknowledge basic biology.

Nic does a wonderful job at encouraging inclusion and fairness while considering safeguards. Why is there no middle ground on this?

Gileswithachainsaw · 27/09/2018 10:42

Dr Nic did well. Was a tough interview though. There seem to he an overwhelming reluctance on the interviewers behalf to admit they had male bodies. In fact it was so obviously avoiding the truth that she was starting to look a bit stupid tbh. I don't think she really believed it herself

DJLippy · 27/09/2018 10:42

I sometimes wonder what drugs they're all on at the BBC.
"What do you mean they're male? The don't identify as female!"
