Ocado boycott after support of Primesight action

PerverseConverse · 25/09/2018 21:59

On discovering today that Ocado are continuing to use Primesight after they removed Standing For Women's billboard, thereby showing they have no respect for women or our rights, I have emailed them to tell them that I will no longer shop with them as they support misogyny. I'm just wondering how many others have done the same and hoping this thread gets picked up by twitter and/or the press.

Thanks CGID

It’s still very much non-unisex in stores round here (though perhaps not for long)

OvaHere · 26/09/2018 20:26

Just in case nobody has mentioned it with the Sainsbury's delivery pass you can order until midday for a delivery that evening. I've found that very useful at times.

Sainsbury's as far as I know still understand what a woman is which is an added bonus.

PerverseConverse · 26/09/2018 20:42

Whoever suggested this be moved to AIBU for more traffic: I did request this but HQ have said its doing so well that they will leave it here but to feel free to put a similar thread on AIBU so I'm about to do just that Smile

Such a shame we can't buy shares in Waitrose Grin

JiltedJohnsJulie · 26/09/2018 21:13

It’s a shame I’m not crafty, I’m that cross I’d make my own tshirt with “Woman = Adult Human Female” on. I’ve even checked out Etsy to see if someone else is making them.

WomanAKAAdultHumanFemale · 26/09/2018 21:32

I believe that Posie's organisation makes them.

WomenMakePurchasingDecisions · 26/09/2018 21:33

Jilted, you can buy them from Standingforwomen.com.

Contacted Ocado this morning to close account and had a super lovely person I chatted with. They said they were supposed to follow the company line - but on a personal level they were right behind us!

Hooray lovely Ocado customer service person Smile

GladAllOver · 26/09/2018 21:48

And they have a Donate button too!
DH has contributed. :)

Ocado siding with misogynists and agreeing that the word "woman" and its dictionary definition is...http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/3377314-ocado-siding-with-misogynists-and-agreeing-that-the-word-woman-and-its-dictionary-definition-is-hate-speech

As suggested by HQ. More support over there with WTF type reactions. Unfortunately some support for Ocado too but then it is AIBU!

Ocado sent me one of those emails (after I cancelled my account) telling me how much I saved on my last shop. That amount has now been donated to Standing for Women. And my Woman tote bag will carry my shopping home in all it’s clear definition glory!

AncientLights · 26/09/2018 21:53

M&S seem adamant that all of their changing rooms have solid walls with doors, not curtains, but that's not right I think. They all deserve to get clobbered by this stuff, as the EA 2010 is still in force and they can have separate changing areas for women and men if proportionate and it is. Where the trans go is not our problem.

Thank you.

JamAtkins · 26/09/2018 21:55

I think I'm going with Sainsbury's. They we're my staple in my pre-ocado days but I swapped because I got too many weird substitutions. This was more than a decade ago and they aren't massive misogynists so I'm giving them another go. I'll keep the Waitrose Christmas order I did this morning almost wholly for the mini mince pies I used to get from Ocado. Sainsbury's seem to have 3 apps though. Anyone know what that's about?

Its been over 24 hours now and they can't even be arsed to comment on it. I've done 2 live chats in which they just repeated 'feedback is being passed on to the relevant team' and didn't answer the questions. I wasn't even being a massive arse, I just asked if a statement was going to be released or not and could they send a link to their values. I feel I've made as much effort as I can to allow myself to continue chucking my money at them and they don't seem prepared to meet me half way. It's fucking rude. I'll call and cancel tomorrow.

NonaGrey · 26/09/2018 21:58

Someone, apologies can’t remember who linked to Helen Saxby’s Not In the News Briefs blog earlier. I thought this was spot on:

The purpose of ‘transwomen are women’ is not just to be ‘nice’ to trans-identified males and show solidarity and support, as many people seem to think it is. Its purpose is to deny the whole notion of women having separate rights, because it is in this way that trans activists can get every change they want passed without any opposition. It’s almost as if a Trojan Horse dressed as My Little Pony has landed smack bang right in the middle of the women’s movement and now Men’s Rights Activists are pouring out of it intending to get their own way.

Batteriesallgone · 26/09/2018 22:01

I know this is irrelevant and might make me sound like a dick.

But I wish standing for women had a slogan top you could easily breastfeed in.

I’ve spend many, many years breastfeeding on demand, it’s upsetting to be excluded from wearing a top with the definition of woman on because I am using my female breasts for their biological function.

I know people say you can push a t-shirt up but it’s such a faff, makes latching hard to see and has annoyed every one of my children to the extent that actually no, I can’t do one up one down.

Anyway sorry I know that’s a total selfish derail.

PerverseConverse · 26/09/2018 22:08

@Batteriesallgone a vest top is my bf staple along with a hoodie. Posie we need vests and hoodies!

In other news, this thread has been posted on the Ocado Facebook page under visitor posts. How long it will stay there I don't know but the more people who make this very public and uncomfortable for Ocado the better.

OP posts:
breastfeedingclownfish · 26/09/2018 22:15

@Batteriesallgone

It's been some time since I BF but I found vest tops with cardis/hoodies/shirts best for ease of use and no side flash .

'Adult Human Female' is a strong message to be visible on any of those while BF. (And muslin cloths?)

Bet the tattoists start getting orders Grin

PerverseConverse · 26/09/2018 22:51

May I suggest a post on Ocado's Facebook page which you then share to your own page so your friends and family get to hear about this too Smile

I cancelled my order too, thank you for bringing it to my attention. No mention in the news though...

One of the things that has really struck me on this thread is how many people are passionate Ocado users who spend lots of money on a very regular basis but seem to love the service that they have had and who are genuinely sorry to be leaving Ocado.

In these days of austerity, price is often a key factor in deciding which service to use, so people are easily led to change by special offers from other online supermarkets tempting them in. For so many people to say that they have been with Ocado for years (and plenty of 10 year plus people within that) is a really big deal that Ocado should have been able to be proud about - the fact that they are now losing such loyal customers should be a massive shock to their system.

It's really sad that they haven't recognised that this would be such a massive issue to so many of these loyal customers.

charlestonchaplin · 27/09/2018 03:24

It's really sad and insulting that they haven't even bothered to comment, having had time to consider the issues (well, some of them). I expected any response to sit firmly on the fence, no more than that, but we are apparently not even worthy of lip-service.

sashh · 27/09/2018 05:03

If you are looking for a different shop I have a couple of suggestions.

  1. go to mysupermarket.com, you can do an ocardo shop and then click for it to swap to another supermarket, they list Tesco, Sainsbury's, ASDA, Lidl and Aldi.

Your shop will not be exactly the same but it will tell you when things are not available and also which items you can get cheaper.

  1. have a look at local shops, I've recently started using a local butcher and greengrocer (they are next to each other) it's not as convenient as online as they don't deliver but it's not as inconvenient as I thought eg the butcher opens at 7am Tues-Sat. The prices are similar but the quality is so much better.

The green grocer doesn't stock as much variety as a supermarket but it is good quality and do I really need 14 different types of mushroom?
