"I never realised until recently just how many people are scared of stickers."

Me neither!

I am not sure that political type stickers are a good idea in schools anyway TBH although this is 6th form and so prob many of them have vegan slogans over stuff and so forth.

If you take words as literal violence then words written on a sticker are the equivalent of taking an uzi out I guess.

Fair enough that they have said maybe not a good idea and apologised.

What are schools doing about the rampant misogyny, sex attacks and rapes going on in schools all over the country as recently reported in many news outlets? That feels more like actual violence (and if the govt enquiry is interested, a candidate for one of the reason so many girls are trying to opt out of their sex).

HandsOffMyRights · 22/09/2018 14:33

Like this Nothing?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 22/09/2018 14:35

Yes that.

With this talk of "unsafe environments" you'd think it would be on the table.

But no, stickers = bad, cunty people = well what do they expect.

FermatsTheorem · 22/09/2018 14:40

Let's be quite clear on the implications of that extract concerning rugby.

My DS plays rugby -still young enough that the team is mixed (albeit full contact). There are 4 girls on the team, all very talented, one (I would say) with a real future ahead of her.

That document is saying that if 4 or 5 years down the line, a transgirl, well into male puberty, wants to play (by this age, the game will involve contested scrums among other things) then the girls either accept the risk of life-changing spinal injuries or go and play a more suitably feminine game.

In other words, girls, get back to the 1970s! (When I grew up - not allowed to play football or cricket because those were boys' games).

FUCK THAT FOR A GAME OF SOLDIERS.

There are lots of things that anger me about the transborg, but as a former sportswoman (albeit not a very good one) the systematc destruction of women's sports is particularly personal.

Incidentally, given that cross-sex hormones are not routinely given to children in the UK, there is no reason why transkids should not continue to play sports according to their actual biological sex. They will not be disadvantaged by doing so. Shouldn't we be pushing to get boys sports teams to be more accepting of gender non-conforming children? Of, if there's any "steering of kids into alternative sports" to be done, why not encourage transkids to go into genuinely mixed sports like korfball or ultimate frisbee?

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 22/09/2018 14:54

I don’t really understand why Transgender Trend felt they had to apologise and felt it was a misstep to do so. Just my perspective and obviously they know why they felt they had to, but I think it’s a shame that it’s generated so much negative publicity for them. It’s not like their stickers were saying anything other than the truth.

Melanippe · 22/09/2018 14:57

Transgender Trend shouldn't have apologised for what they said. It was perfectly legitimate and far better than advocating for children to be put on to a lifelong drug regimen. Maybe stop plopping OP?

placemats · 22/09/2018 15:00

Let's sort out the discrimination that those who are Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual and do sports first. It seems to me that 'gender non conformity' is leap frogging the LGB movement and leaving those in most need of care against discrimination in sports adrift.

VickyEadie · 22/09/2018 15:05

I've mentioned my tiny 13 year old niece before. The thought of her having to play contact sports against boys a foot and several stones heavier than her is terrifying - leaving aside her having to change and shower with them and their penises.

RedHoodGirl · 22/09/2018 15:06

I noticed this article the other day. I think some more examples were given of Transgender Trend endorsing the use of stickers in schools (by retweeting others) which it looks like they then backtracked and un-retweeted.

HandsOffMyRights · 22/09/2018 15:17

Red - that just shows what we've seen upthread plus one more reply to a Tweet, stating 'get the word out'

Once again it shows Helen from Mermaids' obsession with TGTrend. I wonder why she's so unnerved by them?

AspieAndProud · 22/09/2018 15:24

I think kids should be taught the FACTS regarding sex. Is this transphobic of me?

AspieAndProud · 22/09/2018 15:28

I had all kinds of political stickers over my books in the Eighties. It was the era of CND, Greenham Common, the fight against racism and homophobia (showing my age a bit here). The protection of children SHOULD be something children are concerned about.

ArmchairAnnie · 22/09/2018 15:29

Deciding to get oneself sterilized at age 10: good.
Freedom of sticker choice at age 16: bad.

Bowlofbabelfish · 22/09/2018 15:36

annie

How do you reconcile the safeguarding loopholes outlined above with your wish to see mermaids/gires type information in schools?

womanformallyknownaswoman · 22/09/2018 15:38

AIBU to be suspicious of a 3 day old account who posts goady statements re transphobia?

I used to draw penises and balls in my teens all over my school books - a good stiffy still looks good to me on the right guy but I never confused them with a different human sex or clownfish or eels. AIBU?

HandsOffMyRights · 22/09/2018 15:39

**Is that you Helen? (Waves)

I have partaken in the odd cigar. Can I identify as a man. Oh goody I'll get a promotion, more pay and a free pass to do anything!

Annie - so what packs are used in your children's schools again?

R0wantrees · 22/09/2018 15:40

THere are some powerful twitter quotes in the article;

"Christine Hart commented: 'Transgender Trend say of course they never wanted these brightly coloured stickers with simple child-friendly messages to end up in schools as they are forced to withdraw them and issue a grovelling apology.'

Transfigurations added: 'Transgender Trend issue a statement and apology over their stickers furore after they came under sustained criticism - I just hope that people saw through the hate and didn't bother to download them - otherwise children's lives could be damaged.'"

both very active TRA Twitter accounts

Mermaids Marketing Officer Helen @mimmymum advocates hacking my internet connection and calls me a btch, & her mate reports me for 'hatred'*

Hacking one's internet connection: good.
Freedom of sticker choice at age 16: bad.

Hacking internet connections: illegal
Putting a sticker that states a biological fact on a pencil case or notebook: not illegal

Beesandfrogsandfleas · 22/09/2018 15:42

Really, the OP came back on the thread to post that ?

Oh, the fucking IRONY !

placemats · 22/09/2018 15:46

I used to very occasionally smoke Cafe Cremes. Way back in the day, I might add.

VickyEadie · 22/09/2018 15:46

Goady fuckery at its finest, I'd say.
