He's great! Smile

CrackpotsArePots · 19/09/2018 20:06

Yes. Me too. And I loved his book. I think it's a great introductory read on male socialisation. And funny and really really touching.

OhHolyJesus · 19/09/2018 20:07

Oh how brilliant - must get his book now

BlackForestCake · 19/09/2018 20:11

Has he been openly opposed to transgenderist bullying before, or is it a new step?

KatVonGulag · 19/09/2018 20:21

The TA are bullies. Pathetic.

Fist pump at the sight of Robert telling them so.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 19/09/2018 20:23

I suspect that "Alina" is not doing the cause any good. There is absolutely nothing offensive in those liked tweets she's using as evidence against Webb.

Manderleyagain · 19/09/2018 20:30

He's not been out there about it. From what I have noticed he has liked tweets which suggest he's aware of the issues. Then gets tweeted at by people saying basically 'you have liked a non approved tweet - so do you think twaw'. I haven't read his book but I really must. Sounds like a really helpful way in to thinking about masculinity.

Manderleyagain · 19/09/2018 20:31

That was answering black forest

Redkeyboard · 19/09/2018 20:34

Thanks for posting. Am going to buy his book.

CrackpotsArePots · 19/09/2018 20:38

ItsAll

Yes,

Condemning perfectly reasonable sane statements whilst making your own wild hyperbolic word salad tends to make you look like a bit of a dick. They are a bit slow on the uptake there though. Let them get on with it I say. The more they talk, the stupider they sound

AspieAndProud · 19/09/2018 20:39

Whatever the case, Webb was just the performer, not the writer. Holding him responsible for a character's opinions is as moronic as thinking Anthony Hopkins actually eats census takers.

I'd be more interested in hearing from Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain, who actually wrote the episode. They don't seem to be constrained by political correctness having written Peepshow and Four Lions

RedToothBrush · 19/09/2018 20:40

Ben Pobjie @benpobjie
Imagine not understanding what comedy and fiction and acting are to this extent

That's pretty much the core of all of it. An inability / unwillingness to tell the difference between reality and fantasy. Everything else follows from that.

I can deal with any identity people want to have as long as its grounded in reality.

I think that's probably my line.

For all the talk of erasure, you can't erase existence if you never existed in the first place and were only a figment of imagination.

BlardyBlar · 19/09/2018 20:48

Another prominent male comedian/writer speaking out.

Very grateful to anyone brave enough to do so.

OlennasWimple · 19/09/2018 20:48

I read and re-read those screenshotted tweets from Alina that were supposed to be a "gotcha!" moment.... And I can't see what anyone on earth can get offended by in them Confused

Anlaf · 19/09/2018 20:56

I think he tweeted the piece by the mum of the girl that Janice Turner wrote about and I cannot remember her name

And got loads of flak for it

SPOFS · 19/09/2018 20:58

Didn't David Mitchell's wife write something gender critical a while back? In the Guardian I think.

Anlaf · 19/09/2018 20:58

Lily Maynard! Anyway, I think he is a good chap

RichardLongcross · 19/09/2018 20:59

All I can hear in my head is Malcolm Tucker shouting "ARE YOU SO DENSE?" mid rant.

DixieFlatline · 19/09/2018 21:06

I too saw this about half an hour ago. Hard to knock his approach really. Gets attacked, tells it like it is. Isn't volunteering himself as a human shield off his own bat as such, but also isn't doing so and claiming cookies and a medal for what hundreds of women are doing all the time. He's just keeping on keeping on, being a decent person prepared to stand up to some manipulative fuckwits. I approve.

CircumzenithalArc · 19/09/2018 21:10

♡♡

Bowlofbabelfish · 19/09/2018 21:23

Extremists are always so humourless. Never so much as a chuckle is there?

Butterymuffin · 19/09/2018 21:25

He is very good at standing up for women. I really like what he does on Twitter. Please keep going if you see this RW!

Butterymuffin · 19/09/2018 21:29

And it gets to the point brilliantly to say he has no problem with trans people, it's TRA ideology that's the problem. Hear hear.

FloralBunting · 19/09/2018 21:32

A thing of joy, quite frankly.

Handsoffmyrights · 19/09/2018 21:34

Alina tried a couple of times to get the trolls to pile on.

I like Robert's line about trans: "They are normal farty humans like you & me. TRA ideology however..."
