MNHQ: I'd like to start a thread about the reality of phalloplasty without it being deleted

BarrackerBarmer · 15/09/2018 20:18

MNHQ has already deleted one thread "not in the spirit".

Fair enough.

Please lay out exactly how I can start a thread about phalloplasty, with images (of arms, not of penises).
This is important. Thousands of girls are identifying as boys, and the medical pathway for those girls includes breastbinding, double mastectomies, hysterectomies and phalloplasties.

Guidance from many institutions is unquestioning affirmation.

I want to discuss this. Truthfully.

Tell me how I can do this without MNHQ deleting my thread and I will follow your rules to the letter.

Or tell the thousands of women on this site that we are forbidden from discussing the outcome of SRS for girls entirely.

What are your rules please?

But I don't understand how it's even like other cosmetic surgeries. The vanity ones can sometimes leave people looking 'cat like' in extreme cases, but most things at least aim for people to look 'better' afterwards. This leaves young women with a long dollop of pointless flesh between their legs and angry mutilations on their arms. It's one of the most awful examples of modern backwardness I can think of right now. It's footbinding level horror with full medical approval.

LangCleg · 15/09/2018 22:33

given that this is a photo of a person who could end up reading the thread

@MNHQ - are you saying it would be ok to post an anonymised image (from a medical website or somesuch) provided the thread title had a content warning?

Can we get this sorted with proper clarity?

(I don't want to post images myself but let's get what's acceptable and what isn't exactly sorted, eh?)

littlbrowndog · 15/09/2018 22:33

Then you can spend hours doing chit chat abou5 you4 surgery with your empathetic mates

littlbrowndog · 15/09/2018 22:35

I dunno floral.

It’s a cult and medics colluding with deluded ppl

ABitCrapper · 15/09/2018 22:35

littlebrowndog yeah, 'suppose. I can understand social contagion in having eyebrows, or going goth. Or even eating disorders and self harm (both my personal trophies of growing up dysfunctional). But an actual operation?! The scars on my arms are NOTHING compared to that. Or my fucked stumps of teeth ...

MissMarplesBloomers · 15/09/2018 22:37

I think that,as ever, there are many people on this thread who do not have the first idea about what trans children & their families go through, and we shouldn't judge what they & their medical advisors decide for their individual case. I am told by trans friends that surgical techniques are improving all the time so a lot of what you see in these videos is outdated pretty quickly. Also many decide NOT to have bottom surgery, as it is such a large op.

Obviously we all THINK we know what we would do in these situations but you never know when it comes down to it, & from what I have seen, it is a bloody difficult path for any family.

So (personally) I think they have enough on their plates without hundreds of randoms on the internet judging them.

SlowlyShrinking · 15/09/2018 22:38

You don’t start off immediately thinking ‘well I’ll definitely get surgery on my genitals’ it’s a series of small steps which eventually leads to some people thinking that they need to have a false penis made in order to be happy/their authentic self. I hope that for most people who take this drastic step, they’re happy with the results and don’t lose (much?) sexual function, but the potential problems when it goes wrong are a very high price to pay, imo. Becoming incontinent of urine in your 20s must be hard to bear, but to be faecally incontinent too?

littlbrowndog · 15/09/2018 22:38

Only reason I can think of. Social contagion but omg the medic# should be like go away until you grow up

I mean who will want to have sex with whatever it is them ppl have.

I blame the medic@ and the ppl who hav3 money in this

littlbrowndog · 15/09/2018 22:40

Saying it to you marples

I blame the medics for allowing kids to think all will be well
It won’t be

SlowlyShrinking · 15/09/2018 22:41

I’m not in any way judging the people who have phalloplasty. I’m judging the surgeons like fuck though Angry

FloralBunting · 15/09/2018 22:41

Fucksake, I'm not judging them. I'm actually angrier with the medical profession for this sort of thing.

Oh, and wind your neck in with the assumption that none of us are part of families where trans is an issue.

ABitCrapper · 15/09/2018 22:42

I agree with littlebrowndog just because something can be done, doesn't mean it SHOULD be done.
This operation shouldn't even be an option really.

ABitCrapper · 15/09/2018 22:43

And I have a trans close family member.

littlbrowndog · 15/09/2018 22:44

We can judge floral and we should be judging

littlbrowndog · 15/09/2018 22:45

And not be colluding with this rubbish

FloralBunting · 15/09/2018 22:46

littlbrowndog, I'm not going to judge some poor woman who hates her body and has such low self esteem she lets a surgeon do this to her. Damn right I'll judge the surgeon for being willing to do it, and probably get a shit-ton of money for it, though.

littlbrowndog · 15/09/2018 22:48

Yeah floral agree

But how we got to,this point that ppl think they can change sex. By getting an operation
Bonkers

DuckingGoodPJs · 15/09/2018 22:48

I’m judging the surgeons like fuck though
I think most of us are too. Not only from the unnecessary aspect, the poor outcomes aspect, or the hideous amounts of money to be made from all of this. I do feel sorry for the young people caught up in all of this, not fully knowing what they are getting themselves in for.

littlbrowndog · 15/09/2018 22:49

And medics agree that’s even mor3 bonkers

ALittleBitofVitriol · 15/09/2018 22:49

This is relevant (no pics in this article)
4thwavenow.com/2018/03/26/update-san-francisco-phalloplasty-surgeon-now-with-8-malpractice-suits/

It may reference the person SlowlyShrinking mentioned (I've starred out the person's name since identification as a problem is being discussed on this thread):

C v. Crane, CGC-16-554254. This case involves the truly unfortunate case of C, a young trans man who has endured over 20 surgeries in a thus far fruitless quest to obtain, and then ameliorate the effects of, a male-appearing genital structure. C* maintains a Tumblr blog and has written extensively about the many surgeries and lasting problems resulting from the original phalloplasty, including an ileostomy and the continued need for a colostomy bag.

Yeah pencils. It’s a fecking disgrace

Healthy women.

Sacrificed for the cult of trans and they don’t even see it

Yet the guys. No chance them dicks would be lopped off

SlowlyShrinking · 15/09/2018 23:00

Yes definitely sounds like the same person Vitriol. No amount of money can compensate someone for something like that. Hopefully the surgeon will get what he deserves somehow. 8 patients suing him

ILuvBirdsEye · 15/09/2018 23:02

I am not judging them either. Sad for them and really really angry with the medical profession, politicians, likes of Stonewall - all who should know much MUCH better and of course the effing TRA's.

BarrackerBarmer · 15/09/2018 23:07

I posted the original thread in AIBU in the hope that if at least one cheerleader of a teenage girl 'identifying as' a boy was given pause then job done.

Parents are believing the hype. It must be ok, the school, the doctor, the counsellor said so. It's only a binder. They all do it. It's only blockers. They're reversible. Its only testosterone, how bad can it be. It's only a mastectomy. It's only a hysterectomy. It's only an arm, only a leg, only a colostomy. Only an anecdote.

I keep thinking of the thousands of girls on the brink of this. How do they turn around when everyone is cheering them onwards?
