What if there had been a Savile thread back in the day...

AIBU to think Jimmy Savile OBE KCSG is a paedophile sexual predator?
He didn’t exactly deny it when questioned by Lynn Barber in 1990. He more or less evaded the question when asked by Louis Theroux in 2000. In 2007, the Irish journalist Orla Barry asked him about rumours of paedophilia and sexual assault and he responded “what rumours?”. Also in 2007 he was investigated for allegations of sexual assault in an approved school for girls. In 2008 he started legal proceedings against the Sun for linking him to aggregations of sexual assault in Jersey, which he claimed he had never visited, though photographic evidence showed otherwise.
AI also BU to suggest that there is a wholesale cover up going on at the highest levels of the establishment, including within the police and the BBC, to protect Savile and people like him, who hide in plain sight and simply deny and misdirect, and that the people who suffer are women and girls, especially those who are vulnerable and easy to exploit?

I can think of two people in popular media right now who are extremely involved with children and absolutely set my spidey senses on fire but "everybody loves them, they are so awesome and brilliant etc".

I just don't get it and even if they weren't totally creepy bastards I would level any talent they exhibit at weak to moderate with a lot of ghostwork and expensive pr. It is like they have joe public in thrall and I find it very disturbing.

W0rriedMum · 15/09/2018 13:52

We all know that there are some topics that MN won't allow to be mentioned because they threaten to sue. I won't list them or this threads will be zapped.

Jimmy Saville would have been one of those topics had MN existed then.

W0rriedMum · 15/09/2018 13:54

@disorganisedXX - I have no idea who you mean and I am normally great at blind gossip.

Butterymuffin · 15/09/2018 13:58

It would be deleted for fear of legal action. I think there were individual posts picking it up though.

placemats · 15/09/2018 14:01

Rosemary Lest we forget. Section 28. Bigots the lot of them and such hatred against a national treasure.

Gncq · 15/09/2018 14:06

DisorganisedXX does one of them present a program involving creative ideas for children?

disorganisedXX · 15/09/2018 21:21

One of them started out on adults tv and now writes (imo highly questionable) books for children.

MaisyPops · 15/09/2018 21:24

W0rriedMum
Quite.
Some topics are very much beyond the realms of perfectly debate. It makes you wonder why the people involved like to emulate scientology's approach to suppressing debate. Can I say that?

Butterymuffin · 15/09/2018 21:27

disorganised gotcha. Those books are odd in tone.

Furx · 15/09/2018 21:28

Hmmm

Agree Strongly.

FermatsTheorem · 15/09/2018 21:29

Ah. Yes.

That is all.

bluescreen · 16/09/2018 00:25

I used to work near Stoke Mandeville and a colleague who knew someone there told me hair-raising and unbelievable stories about JS and children and necrophilia. Hmm, I thought. I'd never been a fan so didn't have to struggle with massive cognitive dissonance but all the same, it's nothing to go on publicly. In fact there's a huge risk of being sued for defamation if you go public. You just warn people on the quiet, if you can, like he did.

Hedgehogblues · 16/09/2018 00:29

I used to be friends with someone who worked for the BBC back in 2001 and he told me then that everyone who worked there knew never to leave their own kids with Jimmy Saville. It was an open secret.

Penis trumps truth

FingonTheValiant · 16/09/2018 07:34

disorganised I'm terrible at these but I think I've got it. And I completely agree.

On an unrelated note, have we discussed on FWR that there is currently very popular fiction aimed at primary school children which refers to girls as "slags" and talks about porn mags? And yet apparently we dont care as long as it "gets boys reading".

Doobigetta · 16/09/2018 07:51

I can’t remember if the child abuse was discussed, but the necrophilia was openly talked about, with JS’s identity very thinly disguised, on the popbitch and Guardian talkboards for years before he died.

megletthesecond · 16/09/2018 08:01

doob popbitch were all over Saville for a decade before he died. Mr Jingle Jangle IIRC.

Theswaggyotter · 16/09/2018 08:37

fingon which books do you mean? I’ll have to avoid them

FingonTheValiant · 16/09/2018 08:45

Theswaggyotter this one for porn mags www.thebookpeople.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/qs_product_tbp?productId=187713&catalogId=10051

And this one for "slag" www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/book/billionaire-boy/

The second one also feature a woman getting cosmetic surgery, including breast enhancement. I just think the content is questionable and certainly doesn't match the age bracket.

FingonTheValiant · 16/09/2018 08:54

"Gets kids reading" is such a bloody cop out. There is a wealth of brilliant and diverse children's literature. There's no need for these books to be in primary schools.

VickieCherry · 16/09/2018 08:54

If you'd asked my mum she would have said he's an awful man and she would never have let me anywhere near him. So people did have an inkling.

womanintrousers · 16/09/2018 08:54

JS would have demanded the thread was deleted. If MN didn't comply The BBC would have had the thread deleted and if that failed WY Police would have stepped in.

I escaped JS abuse by fighting him off. I was then beaten by BBC security staff. I have written about it on here before but NC fairly often. I was interviewed by Operation Yewtree etc and know all the details of the case. Everyone knew, it was a massive cover up to protect him. Why? Ask yourself what was so special about Rolf Harris, JS, Stuart Hall etc that they were afforded this protection.
