The Times investigation - paedophile in women's prison

The Sunday Times have followed up on yesterday's article about the convicted sex offender placed in New Hall prison (which worryingly has a mother and baby unit).
Further details about the prisoner's long list of sexual offences and predatory behaviour towards women and children - which makes it unbelievable that the Ministry of Justice would have placed them in a women's prison. Share token here:

Email sent. I thought I read somewhere that there is a trans group / organisation 'advising' or overseeing these decisions? (if you can believe it!) So I also asked whether that was the case.

How many chances does this guy get? :(

And yes, while he might have restritctions placed on him being around children by being on the sex offenders register, if/when this guy gets out, with SelfID he can go anywhere where women are.

Hmm, I have just googled for info on how/ when the court may place restrictions on offenders having contact with children and whether this would for example prevent a transwoman or man on the register from using public toilets or supermarket toilets etc.. and the first result is this hub.unlock.org.uk/knowledgebase/information-relationships-children-dealing-social-services/ which is basically an info site for people with convictions, but is also involved with the move to help with the case on the other thread where a transwoman wants to remove their previous criminal history.

I appreciate that ex-offnders will need help to rebuild their lives, but from quick glances, I am not sure I like the site's tone.

AngryAttackKittens · 09/09/2018 18:00

Oh, that site rings all of my alarms. How to groom a potential new partner into both exposing herself to risk from you and allowing you access to her children.

AngryAttackKittens · 09/09/2018 18:05

In all seriousness, who here is good at AIBU? Because both this and the erase the criminal history case need a wider audience (and having the Times cover both cases makes it easier to demonstrate that this is not just a case of the nasty feminists overreacting).

Not sure it's possible to overreact to a rapist being put in a women's prison and immediately raping several women.

Bowlofbabelfish · 09/09/2018 18:24

In the comments an organisation called *common purpose’ are mentioned as having high level access and giving ‘woke’ training.

Who are this lot?

Ereshkigal · 09/09/2018 18:40

They've come up before. Do you know @R0wantrees ?

bevelino · 09/09/2018 18:47

I have just read the Sunday Times article and am beyond shocked that this man was transferred to a women’s prison on the basis of self identification alone. It makes no sense; and the people who allowed this should hold their heads down in shame.

seafret · 09/09/2018 18:50

Yeah, I agree AAK. I was trying not to be too quick to judge as am feeling rather set off by all of this, but good grief the tone and language is awful. All about how to get the best result for the offender, not about anyone else's feelings or legitimate concerns.

Now I know that the view is that people must be allowed to move forward as rehabilitiated people otherwise a sense of pointlessness may lead to them re-offending, but surely if people are so easily set back and unprepared to deal with the consquences of their conviction (I was going to say consequences of their crime, but it is the victim who truly has to deal with that), why on earth are they being released in the first place.

And of course how many offenders really are truly rehabilitated when they are released? And sex offedners - we aren't talking about petty thefts or smoking weed. FFS.

seafret · 09/09/2018 18:56

I can't typw well enough or reply to indivuals quickly enough for a good result on AIBU or I would. maybe if I get a good brain day I can try.

AngryAttackKittens · 09/09/2018 19:00

Thanks, will take a look.

Artesia · 09/09/2018 19:02

Thank you to all who wrote and shared these articles. I am due to meet my MP to talk about self ID, GRA and the impact on women. Have been trying to work out how to frame what I want to say so that it isn’t just an incoherent, rage filled rant on my part. I think now that I will send these articles in advance, and ask what his views are, then just listen. How anyone could possibly read these and then try to justify the way we are heading is utterly beyond me.

Theswaggyotter · 09/09/2018 19:12

I shared on fb this morning - no comments or responses at all
I’ve also emailed my msp the link as well as mentioning the Green Party scandal

OlennasWimple · 09/09/2018 20:26

Angry - there's already a thread in AIBU on this case . Probably needs the ST article adding to it

Bowl - CP are a strange organisation. Private Eye have been following them for years, insinuating that they are some kind of Masonic, cult group inveigling their way into power across the world. I attended one of their courses and must have missed the brain washing section, as it just seemed like generic leadership training to me...

OlennasWimple · 09/09/2018 20:28

Slightly tinfoil blog site, but summary of concerns about CP here: www.cpexposed.com/about-common-purpose

UndercoverGC · 09/09/2018 21:24

So this sex offender is going to serve their sentence, get out, and be able to go straight back to their established MO of targeting supposedly women-only spaces in order to sexually assault more women.
The offender can't be banned from women's spaces, because TWAW, without question.
I feel sick.
Trying not to despair. How do we stop this?

KataraJean · 09/09/2018 21:34

Thank you for the note about the Times phone and iPad subscription offer HairyAntoinette, that would make a difference - I will call tomorrow.

seafret I found your post about the mentality of perpetrators insightful. I am too tired to respond in a coherent manner, just wanted to say that.

Beachcomber · 09/09/2018 22:05

As expected I have received a deletion email and my 2nd post on the thread has been deleted.

I understand that HQ had to delete me. I hope however that some of our brave journalist allies will start to voice the unsayable thoughts that so many of us have. I'm hopeful that the public relations disaster that has been the last couple of weeks in the world according to trans will embolden some of them.

Women, adult human females are being harmed. This is no time for our journalists to mince their words.

AngryAttackKittens · 09/09/2018 22:39

Or they could stop deleting people for stating the blindingly obvious. That would also be an option.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 09/09/2018 22:47

Many of you will have read this article online and will therefore have missed the full glory of the printed version.

It took a full two thirds of page 7 (early in the paper and a right hand page, which are more always higher traffic) with an absolutely enormous headline and a huge gurning picture of the rapist in a duff wig.

The second Gilligan article takes up half of the lower third of the page. Bearing in mind that the ST is still a broadsheet and that's a very prominent, attention grabbing page.

We wouldn't have seen this a year ago. Eyes are opening. The wheels are coming off. I feel hope.

ChattyLion · 09/09/2018 22:54

Another one contacting my MP. I am so furious for women and children in prisons that are being exposed to such obvious danger.

tiredandweary · 09/09/2018 23:07

Also worth pointing out that in the Times online version they have a 'our pick of your comments' and they headlined it with the sexual assaults in mixed sex changing rooms issues and a woman's comment.

OP posts:
seafret · 09/09/2018 23:18

Thanks katarajean it was not very coherent itself. I have noticed your posts on various threads too and nodded in agreement

I m trying to find the brain power to sy some stuff and tie it in better with people's posts as I think there is a lot to discuss around identity issues and MH, but health is a problem so I apologise for my tangents of thoughts.

AngryAttackKittens · 09/09/2018 23:23

On top of the potential unfairness of linking people with mental health issues who don't get a kick out of violating other people's boundaries with this shitshow I'm also concerned that framing AGP as mental illness might be used to argue that we have to let men with AGP into the women's changing rooms, women's prisons etc as part of their "treatment". Which of course would be fucking nonsense, but look at all the other fucking nonsense that's already happened.

seafret · 09/09/2018 23:23

I susbcribed to the Times today because of their coverage. I coudn't get out to get a paper but after your description Prawn I wish I had one.

I want to copy all these articles, and Cesira's fantastic posters, and penis stickers and paste them all over town, and every billboard. I wish to god I was in the postiion where I could risk it.
