The Times investigation - paedophile in women's prison

The Sunday Times have followed up on yesterday's article about the convicted sex offender placed in New Hall prison (which worryingly has a mother and baby unit).
Further details about the prisoner's long list of sexual offences and predatory behaviour towards women and children - which makes it unbelievable that the Ministry of Justice would have placed them in a women's prison. Share token here:

I hadn't even realised that the women's prison had a mother and baby unit. So yeah, stick a convicted paedophile in there.

But well done to Melissa Briscoe for standing up and being counted on the record for her friend, who was raped by this bastard.

Thank you, Melissa. You are courageous and a wonderful friend.

Beachcomber · 09/09/2018 09:58

How could it have happened? Frances Crook, chief executive of the Howard League for Penal Reform, said prison managers had to make decisions about trans offenders “in a toxic political environment where some campaigners are pushing very hard on trans rights.

I hope the woke lot on MN and elsewhere think about this. Because they are part of all this. The TRAs don't do this on their own, they do it with the support of every right on lefty wanker who parrots their ideology and their stupid misogynistic soundbites and slogans.

It should be unbelievable that this has been allowed to happen but unfortunately it isn't.

There better be an inquiry and I bet if there is a decent one they will find that the decision making process is influenced in some way by a trans lobby. And I bet the process is not influenced by any non Kool aid drinking women.

Women have been harmed whilst under the care of the state. This is an utter disgrace. My heart goes out to them and I hope they are supported and compensated. But what is done is done to these women and the people who allowed it to happen must be held responsible.

Thank you The Times. This should be on the BBC as headline news with Newsnight etc asking WTF is going on. Everyone in land should know what this toxic ideology wants and gets and does to women. Won't hold my breath though.

Mark Fairhurst, acting general secretary of the Prison Officers’ Association, said the rapist’s placement among women prisoners was “disgraceful”, adding: “We would demand a full inquiry and we would expect disciplinary action to be taken against decision makers.”

Sadly I think this is the only way to affect change. If they cared about women (and babies- there is a mother and baby unit in this prison Angry) they would never have done this.
The threat of facing disciplinary action seems like it might be the only way to keep women and babies safe Sad

tiredandweary · 09/09/2018 10:12

I think you're right Datun .
When you look at the histories of many of the leaders of the trans movement and their promotion of porn, their open use of fetishes / kinks and practices / behaviours that would be the political death of any other person / politician, society is being groomed to accept the unacceptable, the perverted and evidently, the downright dangerous.
On that basis, changing rooms / toilets etc will be seen as minor issues.

I just posted on the other thread before I saw this one.

I'm torn between fury and tears.

White had already abused a child and raped women in two vulnerable situations that feminists have been writing about: bail hostels (FPW have a post on this) and mixed sex psychiatric wards (Times reporting on this).

And yet a court saw fit to put him in a women's prison containing a mother and baby unit on the basis of self declaration alone?

And the BBC does not think this worthy of comment.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 09/09/2018 10:13

Is the public's tolerance for 'lesser' outrages higher, as a result. Transwomen with more minor offences, for example. Changing rooms, etc.

We can keep pointing out that voyeurs and exhibitionists often escalate their offending if not prevented

Theswaggyotter · 09/09/2018 10:14

I’ve shared this on fb as I’m so appalled and as ever the mainstream reporting of this is pretty limited. People need to wake up and realise how much harm is being done to women and children by the move towards self id

Ereshkigal · 09/09/2018 10:16

I agree with you Beach.

LangCleg · 09/09/2018 10:19

Beachcomber

And we're back to safeguarding.

All our history and knowledge tells us that abusers will go wherever scrutiny is least and safeguarding is weakest. Those who struggled to try and expose the abuse scandals within the Catholic church estimate that before the scandals eventually broke, 5-6% of Catholic priests were abusers. Not because 5-6% of Catholic men are abusive but because the church had created an environment where priests had unimpeachable identities and were not scrutinised, and thought protecting the church was more important than safeguarding its congregation.

The same thing will happen - and has happened - anywhere and to any group that disposes of safeguarding.

Self-ID is incompatible with safeguarding.

Wanderabout · 09/09/2018 10:25

And the BBC does not think this worthy of comment.

PM programme on Saturday did a really good piece on the whole Karen White issue. Had Dr Nicola Williams from Fair Play For Women on.

In terms of BBC it is second only to the Today programme for reach and audience.

So a good sign that with issues like this normal service in terms of coverage on a BBC programme is possible.

Beachcomber · 09/09/2018 10:26

Self-ID is incompatible with safeguarding.

In a nutshell.

That is a campaign slogan LangCleg.

LemonJello · 09/09/2018 10:26

Someone needs to start a petition to call for an inquiry. The public needs to know how this decision was reached and how it can be avoided in future. And heads need to roll.

JuneOsbourne · 09/09/2018 10:30

I keep thinking of a R4 interview I heard some months back where the issue of transwomen in women's prisons came up. Jane Fay with that horrible affected breathy voice basically said "well we have to remember we are talking about criminals..." Because obviously women in prison (and their totally innocent children) immediately lose any right to safety and dignity. Convicted male paedophiles however....

Makes my blood boil. I hope the tide turns quickly though. The deadline for the GRA consultation really isn't that far away. I've started my response though haven't submitted it yet. I would urge anyone concerned about this issue to please add their voice to the consultation if you haven't already. Fairplay for Women has some excellent resources to get you started.

Thank you The Times.

Ereshkigal · 09/09/2018 10:55

The Times puts the Guardian to shame.

KataraJean · 09/09/2018 11:13

I also agree with you Beach, being clear that I am not talking about transsexuals who have gone through the existing legal and medical processes. Nor am I talking about the many, many young women caught up in transgender ideology, anymore than I would blame anorexic girls for seeking to be thin as a way of asserting control over their lives and bodies. I mean, the mature and adult people who have created and promote this movement.

I am consistently on the verge of stopping my Times subscription as I am a single parent and I need the money. But it is one thing I afford myself because it is the only paper picking this up (and other women’s rights issues) in a sustained and intelligent manner. The debate simply cannot and should not be played out on Twitter.

Noqont · 09/09/2018 11:38

Whoever made this decision should be prosecuted for deliberately putting women and babies at risk. Because if the information / history was available, which it clearly was, then this was a deliberate act to undermine the safety of some of the most vulnerable women in our society. Absolutely fucking disgusting.

birdsdestiny · 09/09/2018 11:45

But you see if you follow the TWAW then where else would these people be. It was a mistake of epic proportions to ever give that belief credence. It's the underpinning of it all.
If they are women then they belong in the women's estate. If they are not then it all falls down.

hackmum · 09/09/2018 11:51

Beachcomber You are right. I realised this some time ago. We have been too soft in arguing that self ID could be abused. The whole point of it is to enable abusers.

Yes, well said KataraJean. Those girls and young women are collateral damage at best and victims of intentional lesbian erasure at worst.

The trans movement is male.

Beachcomber · 09/09/2018 12:05

Sheila Jeffreys says that much of the money is coming from Big Pharma. Not, one presumes, because they want to finance the dismantling of safeguarding but because there is money to be made from peddling drugs and surgeries and creating a clientele who will be lifetime consumers.

miri1985 · 09/09/2018 12:06

Whats not being mentioned in any of the articles I've read about "Karen White" is the fact that even though Karen is back in the male estate, as a trans prisoner will have the right to have any strip searches carried out by a female prison guard. I feel so ridiculously sorry for women that are trying to do their jobs and being put in the position of having to touch people like this in intimate areas
