As @R0wantree linked to on the thread on crossing out 'gender' for 'sex' on school forms, but this deserves its own thread.

Take a look at 'BISH' website for teens.

www.bishuk.com/about-you/whats-your-gender/

Has a helpful diagram. People called 'he' and who look masculine tend to be tough, active and independent. People called 'she' and who look feminine tend to be soft, emotional and passive.

He goes into schools and youth clubs and gives training to teachers on sex and relationship education with this shit! bishtraining.com/

"Our genitals are on a spectrum in terms of: how much erectile tissue sticks out (clitorises and dicks and inbetween); where the prostate is; where the wee hole is; whether the gonads are inside or outside; vagina size. Many people are in the middle of this spectrum with how their bodies are configured."

WTAF? There is a spectrum as to where the prostate is? that makes just as much sense as saying there is a spectrum as to where the uterus is between males and females ! Confused

"Currently I’m heavily involved in the DO … project. This is a campaign to make great sex and relationships education happen in schools." www.dosreforschools.com/

BISH and the DO SRE FOR SCHOOLS project are both sponsored by Durex and DO involves serious people who know about biology like the Family Planning Association, Brook and the National Association of Headteachers.

....I hope they were just not paying attention. I think we could bring it to the attention of their twitter accounts that they are supporting the promotion of sexism and absolute biological nonsense into schools.

Anlaf, how awful that the article is now 15 years old and identifies all the same problems we have now but things have got worse rather than better.

MistOnTheWater · 06/09/2018 15:49

Do the people that wrote this batshite actually believe it? Did they get paid for writing this?

Anlaf · 06/09/2018 16:19

Reading on my phone and hadn't realised bish were being that stoopid diagram that is all over twitter (it's the left one in the op, e.g. twitter.com/HJJoyceEcon/status/1037613188194476032?s=19 )

I've had a scan of the DO lesson plans from R0's link and it's quite something.

Sample quotes from lesson plan 2

Key learning aims
To find out more about how complex and wonderful our genders can be, and how they can cross over with other aspects of our identities, including our sexuality

On the board, write ‘males’ and ‘females’ and come up with two lists that cover some of the commonly believed differences between males and females. 2. Consider the list in terms of appearance, behaviours, attitudes and expectations of each gender. It may help to prompt the class, for example: • What do we hear about boys? Boys are… • What do we hear about girls? Girls are… • All men like… • All women like… • Boys can… • Girls can… • Boys can’t… • Girls can’t...

(N.B. some students may − quite rightly − point out that there are more than two genders. Explain that the lesson is all about being critical of our binary view of gender and that all should be clear by the end).

[NARRATOR: Nothing was clear by the end]

So, you might associate there being two genders but that's unfair stereotypes, cos actually some people have a different gender. Lucky them eh!

Anlaf · 06/09/2018 16:27

Next we ask the children to draw pictures of an or a woman. How many of their people fit neatly into being a man or a woman? Look at the attributes for each man and woman. Which traits are always gendered and which are just about being human?

Presumably if they are male or female? Fucked if I know [Anlaf is sent to the deputy head's office for swearing].

Then a link for further learning. You'll love this kids.

My prostate is in my ear.

I really really must work but this from bish training is amazing.

You have no idea exactly what is in someone's pants or how they work...

some [what??] are bigger some are smaller....Some bits stick out more than others

the differences are so big that sometimes there are more similarities between a penis and a clitoris than two penises or two clitorises

Now I've seen a fair number of cocks. But they were none of them - not one - like a clitoris.

This is antiscientific brain rot and it is (I assume) being taught to young people.

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2018 16:56

How hideously sexist that "gender scale" is.

FloralBunting · 06/09/2018 16:58

Lordha'mercy this stuff is just absolutely bloody ridiculous. I read yesterday that the human race will be extinct by 3000. I think that's a generous assessment if the next generation believes this tripe.

FloralBunting · 06/09/2018 17:01

It's the combination of the stunningly ignorant and inaccurate biology and the gross gendered stereotypical behaviour of 'gentle, sensitive' females and 'strong, independent' males.

It's boggling and despicable at the same time that liberal minded, progressive types actually subscribe to this utter bullshit.

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 06/09/2018 17:13

Feminine-takes part
Masculine- takes charge...
What a load of utter shite.

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 06/09/2018 17:17

the differences are so big that sometimes there are more similarities between a penis and a clitoris than two penises or two clitorises

Sooo..when you are getting changed after the gym and you see what you think might be a cock and balls on what could be a masculine presenting middle aged man, just remember, that might really be just a big clitoris and s/he might be a non binary unicorn. Yes?

Melamin · 06/09/2018 17:19

Are Durex making condoms for clitorises now? Confused

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 06/09/2018 17:20

Aargh, I'm assuming what might be in someone's pants (like the genital obsessed harpy I am) instead of accepting that it's all just a mystery and I don't really understand exactly how genitals work anyway!

FermatsTheorem · 06/09/2018 17:25

And in next week's science lesson - why it's okay if you believe the world is flat and god put the dinosaur bones in the earth as a test of your faith...

PositivelyPERF · 06/09/2018 17:25

How is that manipulation of the truth, not child abuse? Gaslighting children! Bastards!

There is a spectrum as to where the prostate is

They must be a spectrum to where the human head is, too, because his is well and truly up his own arse!

FloralBunting · 06/09/2018 17:28

Genitals are such an opaque mystery. They really could look like anything. You just never know if someone is going to have a pineapple or a small whippet down there.

Anlaf · 06/09/2018 17:29

IfNotNowThenWhen1

You should self refer to learning module 2. You're assuming a "man" gendered person may have some of the attributes of "being a man or male" and as you'll learn through these easy activities.....

Excellent point though. You should not assume that a penis is a-, well, a penis - because "penises and clitorises are really similar".

FermatsTheorem · 06/09/2018 17:29

Personally, being northern, I wear drainpipe jeans specially to keep my ferret in.

BiologyIsReal · 06/09/2018 17:31

You would think it would be illegal to go into schools and teach children lies.

FloralBunting · 06/09/2018 17:31

Penises and clitorises are really similar.

Practically interchangeable, I hear. Like the hair on Lego people.

Anlaf · 06/09/2018 17:39

Also rather grim normalisation of genital surgery and FGM just being genital alteration which is "without consent".

Pretty sure that's not the case on law nor in the reality-based existence I occupy.

FlippinFumin · 06/09/2018 18:00

What he really meant to say is 'women have to prostrate themselves' instead of saying 'women themselves have a prostate'

Almost the same thing, or he thinks if he says it often enough the former will be the norm.

Candidpeel · 06/09/2018 18:02

This reads like on of those badly translated guides you get to assembling a complicated toy. Where you can't figure out what they mean by flange A and slot B and the diagrams make no sense.

"some people have their genitals modified without consent, this is known as FGM".... What does the F stand for? Don't worry about that folks!.... The first part of the description also describes male circumcision, which whatever you think of the practice is not illegal.

Do you think they've written such a pile of mumbo jumbo because they've tried to describe sex and anatomy while avoiding the words Male and Female, Man, Woman, Girl and Boy?

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 06/09/2018 18:24

This CAN'T be real. It's like something off The Day Today.
Kids are going to know it's a load of twaddle anyway. Ds watched a BBC film tother day about a girl who "becomes" a boy. I said "you know people can't really, actually change sex don't you?"
He replied "Dur". (I think that means he knows? )
