I've said this before but when it's at the stage of tweeting the Pope etc. then I think AH"s Responsible Officer needs to have a very concerned check with him to make sure it's OK.

Whatever we think of AH's behaviour, that really is not normal behaviour for most people, let alone a professional with AH's responsibilities.

His RO wrote to me promising to get back after she has investigated. I'm still waiting. But I do wonder if he is still in the GP training rotation. I mean not only does he spend his life on twitter, he is also available at the drop of the hat to pontificate on TV. How does that fit in with work?

I realise this isn’t the official definition of Godwin’s Law, but I’ve always viewed it as when a discussion that is completely irrelevant to Nazis, inevitably ends up talking about Hitler. For example, a discussion about football and someone will inevitably claim Jose Mourinho is Hitler.

However, when you have a group of people using their own deeply ingrained hatred, secrecy, oppression and silencing of their opponents with veiled threats of and actual acts of violence to usher in political change without being challenged out of fear, I think a discussion about comparisons with 1930s Germany is perfectly reasonable.

I think I know the answer to that one.

The males who run the RC church aren't exactly gender conforming in their clothing.

I am sure I read the Pope said that God made homosexuals that way. (As in a don't stress about your sexual attractions) it's ok to be who you are.

Yeah, tbh, and I say this being who I am, I wouldn't be overly eager to align myself with the Catholic Church as a bargaining chip on either side of the debate.

Yes, official church teaching will have no truck with nonsense about being in the wrong body, or any kind of bullying for who you are or what you believe, and that's where I am quite contentedly Catholic.

But the Church is only taking baby steps towards child protection, and the cover up culture and lack of openly dealing with the most recent appalling revelations of abuse of children, and young men in seminaries etc. wouldn't lead me, if I was Harrop looking to shoulder barge others out of the way to a perceived moral high ground, to align myself to readily with them.

Besides, the total lack of moral leadership from the bishops on this particular issue of women's rights is already depressing the crap out of me considering how eager they all are to give out edicts on plastic being the most evil thing in our world. Openly speaking out with nuance is not hard to do if you have the will and the courage.

Something I suspect the leaders of my Church completely lack.

The RC Church is as rotten as any other organisation.

I think, in my experience, humans are generally pretty decent sorts on the one to one. When we start to organize and form corporate entities, we fuck it up almost every single time. I can't think of a large organized human entity that is well run and benevolent through and through.

Governments, businesses, charities, religious institutions etc. One of the reasons I am a Christian in the first place is from looking around me and seeing humanity's ability to take good things and ideas and cock them up spectacularly.

But I digress.
