No they can't have the Suffragette colours!

Jeez, is nothing sacred.

ToeToToe · 27/09/2018 14:33

Us women need to be getting those colours out again, dusting them off...

No point having the vote if we have nobody to vote for!

arranfan · 27/09/2018 14:36

OK - hear me out here.

Do we need our sashes, our colours, and a march through major cities in which we recreate the Votes for Women scene from Mary Poppins ?

Pillock.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 27/09/2018 14:54

Women dont shake and weep. Pass the smelling salts please.

mimivanne · 27/09/2018 15:27

Arran

What a fabulous idea,I'm in

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 27/09/2018 15:44

I'm going to wear the colours with pride.

heresyandwitchcraft · 27/09/2018 15:56

Let's pretend I designed a flag. Red cross on a white background. I later found out it looks exactly like the English flag. I didn't know, but when I found out I started shaking and crying?
Love, have a cup of tea and some biscuits. This is not the end of the world. Honestly. Let the suffragettes keep their symbolism. They used it almost 100 years before you did.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 27/09/2018 16:01

Maybe they thought it was Wimbledon? Why the high drama and swooning? Was it the equivalent of a Sunday school discovering that their lovely new red and black swastika flag was actually appropriated from the Nazis (yes I know they nicked it)?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 27/09/2018 16:08

Sometimes I get shaky over social media stuff too. I don't think it's that uncommon.
What I tend to do, though, is recognise it as an overreaction and walk away for a while, not tell the world exactly what physical symptoms I am displaying.
It's a bit undignified imo.

I see the demand for Linda to remove her handkerchief as having many similarities. Duluth wheel behaviour.

YY absolutely.

Classic need for a narcissist to control details of an environment, particularly one where there is a glimmer that they are not wholly in control. Hence the, "I'm the real victim, here" appeal to the authority figure of the District Judge who does hold authority in the court room.

lecanardnoir123 on Twitter has some interesting observations about the intersection of the gender identity debate and litigious personalities:

Everyone involved with the gender identity debate online needs to be aware of the the litigious borderline personality disorder type. They will involve courts and police at the drop off a hat and not care as to the consequences to their own wellbeing should they fail.

They see the court as and police as an extension of their will. They exist only to harm you. Regardless of these merits of any action, the court will be used to enforce compliance or to respond to narcissistic hurt. Such individuals are best blocked.

The thread is worth reading.

Interesting point. Sounds similar to a certain women's officer on twitter threatening legal action to anyone that's mean or transphobic when they start uni. To paraphrase, 'I've done it before and I'll do it again'. Referring to the time they brought legal action against their school (I think that's right?).

AsAProfessionalFekko · 28/09/2018 08:17

Must be great being on that course. I almost feel sorry for the lecturers and tutors. And the principal. And the HR staff, diversity officer... Lunchroom staff, cleaners, security guards...

FloralCup · 28/09/2018 08:20

fekko - what course are you referring to?

Charliethefeminist · 28/09/2018 08:22

Presumably the course where you have to walk on eggshells round a certain student

FloralCup · 28/09/2018 08:24

Ah - I didn't link it to Tellin's comment. Now I understand.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 28/09/2018 08:28

Lil studying - law is it?

AngryAttackKittens · 28/09/2018 08:38

Suffragettes stole H. G. Wells' time machine and jumped forward a century to appropriate the genderqueer flag, those bigots.

Best advice? Do not get into a slanging match with anybody who is like this. Avoid direct interaction at all times. Andy is right: you can't win an argument with them anyway because they don't know when they've lost.

KataraJean · 28/09/2018 09:27

A while ago, I came across the concept of paper abuse in the context of coercive control - and it is precisely that, the process of sending multiple legal letters which require a response (thus costing the target financially or emotionally).

My ex did this, all the way to court. He did not succeed in getting what he wanted, because I had justified concerns. But that is how far it went to shut the harassment down.

I feel for Venice Allen and Linda Bellos as going from hearing to hearing is so stressful. But the tactic works to silence or comply because of the fear of being in court.

KataraJean · 28/09/2018 09:29

I do agree that internet slanging matches are not where energy should go. But the right to freedom of speech and freedom of movement, to protected same sex space and to define women’s needs in biological terms, without recourse to biological determinism or gender essentialism, are worth fighting for.

crossparsley · 28/09/2018 16:36

That Telegraph article is really unpleasant. Linda Bellos is an 'anti-trans activist'? No mention of the prior question 'what would you do if one of these people was threatening you with violence'? No mention of the context of the meeting, which was the nasty assault on Maria MacLachlan?

Shame on the Telegraph. Richard Littlejohn is way more honest in his thinking, and analysis.
