Starts off promising, then segues into trans apologia and mealy-mouthed justifications why she hasn’t taken further action

OP posts:

Side point, but I want to know why Johnathan isn't getting involved with this at all?

Why does he get to stay muck-free? He's just as liable (admittedly he has not released such a peculiar TWAW statement as Caroline, but why is she the only one being pressured to respond?)

thecatfromjapan · 30/08/2018 18:22

MorrisZapp I don't think we are her target voters.

The Green Party have firmly set their sights on voters who will tolerate anything, question nothing, and be docile, obedient fodder.

thecatfromjapan · 30/08/2018 18:24

Beyond

Caroline is standing down.

If Jeremy said anything, come election time, this would be on the pamphlet of every Party canvassing against him.

But you're right.

Looks like getting covered in shit is a woman's job.

OnlyObjectivity · 30/08/2018 18:27

I’ve not seen any evidence that self-declaration has been routinely abused to gain illegitimate access to women-only spaces

Oh - it has to be routinely abused for it to count... I see...

Ekphrasis · 30/08/2018 18:29

This article is the biggest example of whatabouttery I've seen in a long while.

Popchyk · 30/08/2018 18:30

Dear blokes with ill intent towards women and children,

Please join us. You'll be glad to hear that we have no safeguarding policy and no accountability for individual members. In addition, if you claim to be trans, we will work very hard to ensure that we hide all evidence of your dodgy behaviour. We will also ensure that anyone who witnesses or tries to question your behaviour will be silenced, harassed and intimidated.

Please don't feel put off joining us by your complete ignorance of green issues. You only need to make a commitment to silencing and hounding women. That's all we ask.

Yours sincerely,

The Greens

BeyondAnOmnishambles · 30/08/2018 18:31

Ah yes, voluntarily jumping under the bus to save him...

hackmum · 30/08/2018 18:31

So she is covering up for the way her party allowed a man who raped and tortured a child to play an active role in making policy.

What an evil woman.

thecatfromjapan · 30/08/2018 18:32

Popchyk

You've nailed it.

VickyEadie · 30/08/2018 18:32

So she is covering up for the way her party allowed a man who raped and tortured a child to play an active role in making policy.

What an evil woman.

Ac active role in making policy that would destroy safeguarding of children, no less.

Oldstyle · 30/08/2018 18:34

I'm staggered by this to be honest - and so disappointed. It's full of lies and half-truths and displays a staggering lack of insight about the impact of the proposed changes on the rights of women and girls. Politicians have advisors. The GP advisors must all be activists or half-wits, or a combination of both. And the fact that AC is still on twitter (still with her official GP title) posting insults to Graham Lineham and pictures of kids playing with vibrators (I kid you not).
Politically homeless the lot of us.

VickyEadie · 30/08/2018 18:36

And the fact that AC is still on twitter (still with her official GP title) posting insults to Graham Lineham and pictures of kids playing with vibrators (I kid you not).

Indeed.

Politically homeless the lot of us. Yup.

placemats · 30/08/2018 18:49

The AC retweet regarding the children playing with lingerie, dildos and condoms was posted three years ago.

Which makes it worse.

Lottapianos · 30/08/2018 18:51

Totally bloody horrified by this. Caroline Lucas should be ashamed of herself reiterating the 'transwomen are women's nonsense. There are serious doubts over this person's position but big boo hoo because transwomen have it tough and we can't possibly follow due process. Truly shameful

placemats · 30/08/2018 19:12

Rabbits My apologies, I get it now.

Very clever.

gendercritter · 30/08/2018 19:17

Politicians have advisors. The GP advisors must all be activists or half-wits, or a combination of both.

The few times I've been on Twitter, it's struck me just just many people affiliated with the Green Party seem to be in their early twenties.

Charliethefeminist · 30/08/2018 19:19

Omnishambles I completely agree about Bartley. What a cowardly slime ball.

Hackmum, bang on.

Ereshkigal · 30/08/2018 19:24

Looks like getting covered in shit is a woman's job.

This. Exactly. Take one for the team, CL.

FesteringCarbuncle · 30/08/2018 19:25

Challenor, Madigan, Sleeze
All have made careers out of being trans
If trans didn't matter Challenor would be any common or garden saddo, nothing more

NotMeOhNo · 30/08/2018 19:30

What about acknowledging AC and DC's use of legal injunctions to stop debate about trans issues within Green conference? Hardly a beacon of democratic process.

carceralfeminist · 30/08/2018 19:34

In my humble opinion, I think the Green Party's conduct here looks a lot like what happens in the Catholic Church when they are accused of sexual offenses.

Deny
Minimize
Demonize the people asking reasonable questions
Close ranks to protect the institution
Showing more empathy for the person who was part of the misconduct (because we all know AC knew what DC was accused of, but did nothing) rather than victims of violence
If the Greens are providing any legal assistance to defend the Challenors, then the similarities will be... eerie.

pachyderm · 30/08/2018 19:38

Wondering if AC doesn't realise that Glinner actually wrote that joke. I wouldn't be surprised.

TwistedStitch · 30/08/2018 19:43

I'm pretty sure she's trying to obscure the Green Party's failures by creating a smokescreen of "oh it's transphobic".

I think this is spot on. See the following tweet by another senior Green, this time their business spokesperson. Deflecting with accusations of transphobia appears to be their strategy.

hackmum · 30/08/2018 19:56

I agree 100% with carceral. The issue here for me is not that she is coming out with the usual trans women are women shit. It’s that she is trying to minimise the massive safeguarding failure in her own party. In her position I would feel a deep sense of shame that I had allowed this to happen under my leadership and would immediately announce a review of procedures. She clearly has no shame.

Macareaux · 30/08/2018 20:02

In the article she talks about expecting to get shit for writing it. The corollary must be that she would expect to get even bigger shit if she took the gender critical/rad fem side. It's a no win situation and she has chosen the side where she considers there is least to lose. And for now at least she has made the correct judgement.

I will say, outraged as I am, that I still believe that Caroline is a fundamentally decent woman. But the Green Party set up reeks of Stockholm syndrome.

In a similar way, many people who have trans friends cannot open their minds to the harms of the ideology because it just feels too disloyal and their friends are decent ordinary people.
