So many great comments by Magdelen - and then we get the pay-off "Suck my dick!" by a transwoman criticising Muscato for not being 'feminine' enough...

SisterNotCisTerf · 12/08/2018 11:38

That was fantastic!! Brilliant!

IAmNotAntiWomen · 12/08/2018 13:48

The final request from the transgender person says it all.

andielouandroid · 12/08/2018 15:08

Always great to watch that. Comedy goldSmile

TransplantsArePlants · 12/08/2018 15:39

The hair flicking and facial contortions are quite funny.

I don't think I look enough like a woman for flicky-hair-pretty-eyes

JellySlice · 12/08/2018 16:58

OMG the hypocrisy from that person. Validate me! Validate me! You're not properly trans because you don't validate ME!

Narcissistic.

LassWiADelicateAir · 12/08/2018 17:44

The sneering at Theryn Meyer for being South African and the mocking of her accent is uncalled for.

Meyer also did a pretty good (although ultimately unsuccessful) job of giving evidence at the Canadian committee about deciding on whether to make preferred pronoun usage compulsory, which she is against.

I don't like Magdalen Berns.

SisterNotCisTerf · 12/08/2018 17:55

It probably wasn’t intentional at all but I couldn’t help but see the imitating her SA accent as a mockery of TMs imitation of woman.

Doobigetta · 12/08/2018 18:02

I like Magdalene but I was uncomfortable with her mocking the accent. It wasn't relevant to the argument, it just came across as personal insult with a bit of xenophobia thrown in. She should be better than that.

LassWiADelicateAir · 12/08/2018 18:02

That isn't what I saw. Berns mentioned Meyer being "white South African" at least twice and Berns' version of, what I assume was intended to be, a comedy South African accent got stronger as the video went on.

Meyer is from a white South African background and that is the accent she has. Why mock that?

RoseTheHatt · 12/08/2018 18:11

Why don’t you like MB, Lass??

SisterNotCisTerf · 12/08/2018 18:19

No that’s not what I meant. I meant she was using an element of Meyers identity, something that makes her, her, and imitating it. In the same way Meyers is imitating “woman”. As in “if you can imitate part of who i am then I can imitate part of who you are, see how you feel about that” kind of thing. She wasn’t mocking her for being South African, she was mocking her for imitating women.

TransplantsArePlants · 12/08/2018 18:27

Sister

Yes. That's what MB was doing. Jarring, wasn't it? And that is the point she's trying to make.

JellySlice · 12/08/2018 18:27

I couldn’t help but see the imitating her SA accent as a mockery of TMs imitation of woman.

Frankly, many TMs' behaviour is a mockery of women.

NATMALT, obviously.

SisterNotCisTerf · 12/08/2018 18:28

Yes jarring is a good word. It pointed out how ridiculous TM and others are. MB is no more South African because she did an accent than TM is woman because she wears lipstick.

JellySlice · 12/08/2018 18:31

MB was clearly making the point that aping a behaviour stereotypical of a group does not make you a member of that group.

The transwoman was objecting that another transwoman was not aping womanly behaviour or appearance. Was not 'womaning' well enough for them.

JellySlice · 12/08/2018 18:32

Bother, meant to say TWs' behaviour, and NATWALT, of course.

LassWiADelicateAir · 12/08/2018 18:38

Not buying these excuses.

SisterNotCisTerf · 12/08/2018 18:39

Well you don’t have to.

JellySlice · 12/08/2018 18:45

Not excuses. Explanations.

You don't have to like what MB did.

Unlike transpeople, most of us here feel that you are entitled to your own beliefs and opinions, and do not have to swallow ours with a glass of Koolaid.

RoseTheHatt · 12/08/2018 19:00

Why don’t you like her Lass?

VickyEadie · 12/08/2018 19:18

MB was pretending to be South African for an obvious reason.

The whole thing was swimming in irony.

Sweetsongbird1 · 12/08/2018 21:02

I think she is great and there was plenty to keep me going while I had a few hours kid and dh free!

You can’t be every ones cup of tea all the time and no one is perfect - I don’t expect or think MB is - I just like her point of view and she draws to to issues I would have missed. So for me I like watching her Wine

You can put that spin on it or, as another poster put it it, just came across as a personal insult with a bit of xenophobia thrown in.
