Channel 4 appoints a new advisor on inclusion

www.channel4.com/info/press/news/channel-4-appoints-sue-pascoe-as-advisor-on-inclusion-x

Sue Pascoe, who 4 years ago was Graham, and who said "that while a man, he was the embodiment of the all-action, red-bloodied alpha male."
Of course, by 2015, this evolved to "'It's funny, I'm 55, I am very hormonal, I am going through puberty again which means that I am just getting to my teenage girl years - so watch out world."

Perhaps those teenage girl years have been outgrown now that Pascoe is 58. Here's hoping.

I'm not convinced this will result in a better proportion of those of us who are female being represented though.

Wouldn't it be nice if some of the recent 'inclusivity' appointments actually included women? By which I mean, the old fashioned ACTUALLY underrepresented, female type human.

I have realised that the fact it’s obviously a fetish in some cases makes no difference in liberal leftie circles, where fetishes are actually kind of admired a lot of the time. You would think that in order to be so supportive, it must be that people can’t SEE that it’s a fetish; but the truth is they often can, and that knowledge is part of what drives their support.

It’s a weird time right now in leftwing politics, for sure.

VickyEadie · 09/08/2018 16:35

I knew with pretty much certainty that if I tried to come out when I was a partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers or in Andersen, that would probably be the end of my career. I had to wait for the latter part of my life to make those transitions

Yeah...

Meanwhile, in the spirit of others sharing how it was for them as a teenage girl, here's my experiences.

I was fat, spotty and living in poverty in a two-up, two-down house with no indoor facilities, plus two brothers. No room of my own and no bathroom made coping with menstruation fabulous.

Is that what Sue Pascoe has in mind?

The only thing worse than being a terf is sex negative from what I can tell. And it's sex negative to ever discuss people#s fetishes and why they might be an issue.

Datun · 09/08/2018 16:40

Frankly, this fetish seems so prevalent, I think there are far more people who are familiar with it then we realise.

But it needs to be acknowledged. Like Grayson Perry.

It's not a change of sex, and it's absolutely nothing to do with women, and should be as far away from women's rights as possible. It undermines all of them.

The hashtag GirlsLikeUs won't be a surprise to anyone. But what should be shocking people down to their core is that the country is about to legitimise it at the expense of women.

placemats · 09/08/2018 16:40

Sloth

Sue Pascoe is a dyed in the wool Tory blue.

Regarding your issue on fetish, personally, I believe fetish has no political boundaries.

Datun · 09/08/2018 16:42

I've never understood that either.

Claiming on the one hand that you have a few years to live because you are appropriating murder statistics of trans prostitutes in Brazil, and then vilifying women for wanting to stop prostitution!!!

Trans logic.

I don’t have any problems whatsoever with fetishism within adult consenting relationships (or indeed, when alone).

But the rest of us shouldn’t be expected to budge up and make room for it.

Pretty certain none of us got employed by TV channels or invited to address parliament at 15.

Serves us right for being boring old cunty women, huh?

Ereshkigal · 09/08/2018 16:43

Spot on Datun. Another one of the many paradoxes of the trans movement.

placemats · 09/08/2018 16:48

How would it look if I say, a woman in my fifties, decided to become a trans man and announced to the world that getting the boobs removed and testosterone made me feel like a teenage boy!

Would Channel 4 be knocking on my door to employ me as an inclusion adviser?

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 09/08/2018 16:50

Did I read right that they are offering surgery as a prize????

How is that even legal? Let alone ethical??

Well placemats u would have to brave and stunning and have essence
And start a charity

MoltenLasagne · 09/08/2018 16:51

I think it's interesting that they went to India for the surgery stating that the NHS was outdated. Does this mean they didn't pass the gatekeeping? It would certainly suggest a motivation other than true gender dysphoria if that's the case.

Cigarstring · 09/08/2018 16:53

I'm finding this story particularly upsetting. There appear to be no bounds to the ridiculousness of it all. Sad How come there are so many of these types on boards or committees for this or that. Most women I know aren't Officers of this, Chairperson of that and Boardmember of the other.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 09/08/2018 16:54

I also note the wife gets blamed as do nameless others in childhood. But they somehow found the wherewithall to make their money first:

I told my wife before we were married that I had a feminine side to me, but she did not want it in our marriage and that became very difficult. I hid myself as Sue most of my adult life. I was made fun of when I grew up, and I knew with pretty much certainty that if I tried to come out when I was a partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers or in Andersen, that would probably be the end of my career. I had to wait for the latter part of my life to make those transitions.

R0wantrees · 09/08/2018 16:55

MoltenLasagne

Sue Pascoe talks at length about her experiences, beliefs and opinions as a witness to the Women and Equalities Committee Transgender Equality Inquiry.

I've linked upthread.

From the OP: "Channel 4 has appointed Sue Pascoe of Soaring Spirit Limited as an advisor on Inclusion".

Soaring Spirit Limited was set up on June 28th 2018.

So 6 weeks ago.

Only one officer. Pascoe themselves. So this company was set up specifically in order to partner with C4 looks like. No doubt Soaring Spirit will expand and be able to advise on "inclusion" throughout the media.

stillathing · 09/08/2018 16:59

No problem with fetish until it involves people who haven't consented. People who are lied to cannot consent. Children cannot consent. People with no power sometimes cannot consent.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 09/08/2018 17:00

How come there are so many of these types on boards or committees for this or that.

Read Lundy Bancroft re the loose sexual boundaries of entitled men - it's been in the closet until recently. Just like in the 60s/70s when there's was a sexual revolution and out it all comes - only to retreat when the backlash comes

IAmInsignificunt · 09/08/2018 17:00

Sue didn’t transition because there would have been a financial cost. Sue waited until Sue felt the time was right - after a successful career and a long marriage.

Yet we are constantly told that waiting is impossible, that children who are not allowed to transition as early as possible will be destroyed- their lives will be not worth living and they are at huge risk of suicide.

This is a very, very good point.
