Wtf is "misgendering"?! Genuinely have no clue what this might be and whatever it is was totally and utterly non-intentional.

To those who doubted - this is 100% genuine.

To those who thought I was being rude that night - I'd like to make the point that nothing I said was directed at the person. I was making genetic statements for the purpose of conversation, not carrying out a personal attack on one person.

If this stays up then I will post a screenshot of the text I received from the PO.

Quick Google on the risk of suicide brings up a lot of responses. The admittedly very little I have read about it seem to suggest that being transgender is not of itself a risk, but that it is a combination of factors such as being trans and experiencing social exclusion, discrimination, bullying etc that increases the risk. So overall the rates are higher.

Eg - from Public Health England:
assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/417707/Trans_suicide_Prevention_Toolkit_Final_26032015.pdf

For trans young people
While most factors affecting suicide rates of trans young people are the same as those affecting all young people, there are some additional risk factors to consider. Psychosocial stressors associated with being trans, including gender nonconformity, transphobia, lack of support, dropping out of school, family problems, suicide attempts by acquaintances, homelessness, substance abuse, and psychiatric disorders, elevate their risk of suicide. Where protective factors are sufficiently strong, even the presence of several risk factors may not create the conditions for suicidal ideation or behaviour
.

Couple of academic ones here:

Loads of women were turned away from the Sapphire unit for lying when they had been raped by John Warboys.

I mean the list goes on and on and on.

What a bizarre post.

BettyDuMonde · 07/08/2018 14:47

Deathgrip

I really enjoyed that! One of my husband’s stock phrases is ‘we don’t speak to cops’ and now I understand why!

That sounds like DH is sinister but it’s said in the context of a joke - like when a 3-4 year old peddled past on a police themed bicycle (complete with stabilisers) eyeing up the jelly beans I had in my hand.

TransplantsArePlants · 07/08/2018 14:50

Look, this could all be sorted out if women were a bit...nicer

ProperLavs · 07/08/2018 14:57

It could all be sorted if women just shut up like they're supposed to.

TransplantsArePlants · 07/08/2018 15:00

Proper

That's what I said Grin

SimonBridges · 07/08/2018 15:01

Well quite. Us uppity women complaining about stuff. Just shut up and put up like you are meant to.

Ereshkigal · 07/08/2018 15:08

Suicide attempts aren't the same as suicides, which is the wording you used, Dark. Self reported, self selected data about suicide attempts has considerable limitations.

ColumboHere · 07/08/2018 15:11

I'm saying when you raise you voice and deliver something to someone knowing that they will find it hurtful and offensive I don't care one bloody jot how true it is. And if you do it over and over again, neither does the law, and you will have committed a crime.

Great. So all those people shouting TWAW which is incredibly hurtful and offensive to many women who have suffered for their sex are committing a crime are they?

ProperLavs · 07/08/2018 15:13

No, no crime because it's only men whose voices count.

Moanslice · 07/08/2018 15:14

OP i dont think you should go for a chat with the police. What is the purpose of that? Either they are investigating you or they arent. They are hoping that you will say something else, that belies ypur transphobic think8ng, so they can charge you with something. They have nothing to inveztigate as it is. They need to tell that to the idiot that reported you. And stop harrassing you

ADarkandStormyKnight · 07/08/2018 15:16

I'm not getting into a nit-picky debate about precise wording. The point I'm making is clear enough.

AncientLights · 07/08/2018 15:19

One of the things I feel about all this self ID crap that isn't often mentioned AFAIK is how utterly insulting & offensive it is to women. Or to me anyway. I look at pics of any of them, from Stefonknee to Muscato to Willoughby to Bergdorf and feel totally insulted.

Ereshkigal · 07/08/2018 15:27

No it isn't. As I said. You aren't making any point. The statistics you have swallowed unquestioningly are unreliable and don't deal with completed suicide. You are creating a false picture of the truth and scaremongering about suicide. This is extremely irresponsible.

Suicide related internet use plays a significant role in CYAP suicide. Suicide contagion is a real thing.

You don't have a clue.

sociopathsunited · 07/08/2018 15:30

Is thinking something a crime, now? Do I need to guard my thoughts, as well as my words, my actions, my body, my home, my car, my cat (yes, mentioning the cat again) and my life?

Jeezeus. How's a woman supposed to do the laundry and the dishes with all THAT on her plate, too?

ADarkandStormyKnight · 07/08/2018 15:30

Ereshkigal I'm sorry you feel the need to attack me personally and make assumptions about me.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/08/2018 15:33

Ereshkigal I'm sorry you feel the need to attack me personally and make assumptions about me

She isn't. She is disagreeing with you. now where have I seen being and attached and being disagreed with confused before?

Ereshkigal · 07/08/2018 15:34

Any suicide attempt problem with trans people is not due to what women think. And even if it were, women are still allowed to think and speak about issues which affect us. We are not responsible for the psychological issues of male people. Suicide threats can be used in an abusive way. And sometimes they are even followed through on. It's never right to seek to control another person's behaviour and actions with suicide threats. It's deeply manipulative.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 07/08/2018 15:35

Attack?

TransplantsArePlants · 07/08/2018 15:35

Eresh

Stop being so...logical. And knowing stuff. And not saying the stuff you know in a nice enough way.

Ereshkigal · 07/08/2018 15:37

I'm sorry you feel the need to attack me personally and make assumptions about me.

You even admitted you don't know what you're talking about.

LeiaTheSlaya · 07/08/2018 15:37

Attack? What in Erishkigal's post constitutes an attack?

See, this is why anything TRA's post is rarely taken seriously - the hyperbolic deliberate misinterpretation of a straight forward sentence(s) & claiming to be 'attacked'. Does that then constitute the "increased attacks & transphobia" that's trotted out all over the place?

Aren't you the poster that believes "sturdy pyjamas" prevent assault?

Nuff said.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/08/2018 15:40

Aren't you the poster that believes "sturdy pyjamas" prevent assault?

Yes, the poster is that poster avoids pronouns. That's about it really. Women's real fears of actual bodily assault are dismissed with 'wear sturdy pyjamas' by the same poster who whines that they have been attacked when a woman dares to (gasp) disagree with them!!!

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 07/08/2018 15:44

It is all fine, we are doing an Incredibly Sturdy Pyjama Upgrade soon.

We have the R&D dept on it. Like a bonnit.

LunaTrap · 07/08/2018 15:46

Aren't you the poster that believes "sturdy pyjamas" prevent assault?

WTF??
