Wtf is "misgendering"?! Genuinely have no clue what this might be and whatever it is was totally and utterly non-intentional.

To those who doubted - this is 100% genuine.

To those who thought I was being rude that night - I'd like to make the point that nothing I said was directed at the person. I was making genetic statements for the purpose of conversation, not carrying out a personal attack on one person.

If this stays up then I will post a screenshot of the text I received from the PO.

Since the OP might be in Scotland and this type of thing is likely to crop up again, here's some important legal info that I recently discovered:

  • Scottish courts require two independent sources of evidence pointing to the crime having been committed. A case of he-said, she-said is less likely to be actionable in Scotland, compared to England and Wales.
  • PACE guidelines for the conduct of interviews does not apply in Scotland.
  • In Scotland, unlike E & W, an adverse inference cannot be drawn from giving a "no comment" interview.

Posie there would be plenty of abused and traumatised women with cPTSD or BPD etc who could be triggered into suicidal or sef-harming thoughts and maybe actions by 'not agreeing with them' - but that is not nature that is 'nuture'. So Darwin doesn't come into it.

but I don't like how MH isuses liek suicide can be manipulated for political or individual point scoring any more than I imagine you do.

TransExclusionaryMRA · 07/08/2018 12:55

It doesn’t matter what the press says. It doesn’t matter what the politicians or the mobs say. It doesn’t matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. Republics are founded on one principle above all else: The requirement that we stand up for what we believe in. no matter the odds or consequences.

When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move. Your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth and tell the whole world:

“No, you move.”

theOtherPamAyres · 07/08/2018 12:56

As well as 'hate crimes' motivated by transphobia, the police have to investigate 'incidents' that the caller perceives as transphobic. (Name calling, knocking on doors and running away etc).

LaSquirrel · 07/08/2018 12:58

The threatening of suicide, particularly when placed in an argument, are a sign of manipulation (usually done by a domestic abuser). Those threats are also a red flag in DV cases that the victim may be in danger.

However, there are other manipulative types, who will use it in the same way, ie to get their own way.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 07/08/2018 13:01

Not seen the original thread and just skimming this one, but something of interest:

""Nice tits love!", "You're ugly and your mother smells!", "you're gay!" maybe these things are true. It doesn't absolve you when you deliver them in an abusive manner and when they do (as they can) actually constitute harassment."

Erm

I've had all of those things (well near enough) shouted in my face by aggressive men that I didn't know, and have never gone to the police :/

Show us your tits love (when underage)
You're an ugly bitch anyway (when I said no thanks I don't want a chat in the pub)
Fucking dyke (when I said no thanks to a chat in the pub)
++++++++
So much more

Should I have called the police? They'd have told me to fuck off as well though wouldn't they!

ProperLavs · 07/08/2018 13:04

sadly because you are a real woman it doesn't count if you are the victim of abusive, it only works if you are a man.

ProperLavs · 07/08/2018 13:06

Doesn't Germane Greer have a theory that men on the whole, really dislike women? Trans men clearly dislike real women I suppose because they are men.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 07/08/2018 13:06

Has OP tried dismissing it as "banter"?

(No, wouldn't work for the same reason).

I'm out too anyway, thread is a nightmare. Just saw that early on and thought it was interesting.

seafret · 07/08/2018 13:07

nothingonthetelly can you imagine a world where you could have done that though? And where the police took you seriously? And that maybe you never would have had to suffer misogynist abuse again? That would be a revelation!!

Are women's expecations on this simply too low? Similar to the comment on transwomen not accepting being be treated o poorly as women are treated?

Anyway. I hope the OP is OK.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 07/08/2018 13:11

I was not referring to threats of suicide. I was talking about real people having real feelings. Suicide rates for trans people are much higher than average.

If you want to have a theoretical discussion about what it means to be trans then that is one thing. Having a heated discussion with someone in person, is very different and may have consequences including harm to the emotional wellbeing of one or both of the participants, so probably best avoided.

.

ProperLavs · 07/08/2018 13:11

Women continue to fight. But women also know they can't fight all the time; they'd bee too tired and basically live in a police station.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 07/08/2018 13:11

No, I really can't!

All women are equal but some women are more equal than others, is all.

Agreed nothing its so far beyond our experience.

And for clarity I do not subscribe to the view that trans people have a much higher risk of suicide than other groups. Just harmful propaganda.

Deathgrip · 07/08/2018 13:18

*You only get a criminal record if you've committed a crime.

And if you've committed a crime you deserve it.*

And the award for the most naive comment in this thread goes to...

LunaTrap · 07/08/2018 13:23

You think that heated discussion of ideas between individuals should be avoided in case it harms the emotional wellbeing of the participants? In all cases or only if one of the participants is trans?

parklives · 07/08/2018 13:23

I am worried about op.
I don't trust the police.
I hope op gets legal representation before speaking to the police. She has been accused of a crime, it might be nonsense, but the police could have an easy win for their statistics.
I hope op hasn't been banned by MN. That worries me too.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 07/08/2018 13:24

Oh this interesting.

IW wants the legal title "woman" to be afforded to old school trans sexuals only

So what we have is a subset of men who are already legally counted in with women for some (most) stuff. Now other subsets of men want in, the original subset are trying to shut the door. But, the door was opened by them in the first place.

It's fascinating.

However, if IW wants to make the case that these other men don't belong there then they can feel free.

The point about children.

Anyone who "transes" from male to female is stepping down in the hierarchy. They risk homophobia. Social norms around masculinity are strongly enforced.

Transing from female to male is very different. You are stepping "up". Gender non conformity in women is policed obviously but not in quite the same way. "Tomobys" have always been an OK thing to be, feminine boys, not so much...

I don't think that people who grew up male should be commenting on transboys, their motivations etc.

this blockers as a "pause" thing is awful. Lots of stuff happens at puberty, to the brain as well as the body. Yuo separate from parents, a necessary part of growing up. The classic teen behaviour is there for a reason. That gets stopped - the brain does not go through adolescence... I don't think we know what the long term consequences are.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 07/08/2018 13:25

Shit wrong thread sorry!

RatRolyPoly · 07/08/2018 13:28

Especially as in the original thread the OP went on to bemoan how the trans woman in question was now all upset because her comment had been picked up on by the local community and now loads of people were saying it to her.

Unless the OP has informed all the local people, how on earth is that her fault? Victim blaming.

Oh, I missed this gem.

It was in the original thread Datun. The OP was specifically saying it was her fault. That this whole litany of offense towards this person was entirely off the back of her comments.

I mean that sounds barking to me, but she seemed rather proud of the fact. Or at least fully crediting it to her "honesty", anyway.

SimonBridges · 07/08/2018 13:28

I only got part way through the last thread.

This is madness.
I’m willing to bet that had the op said to someone of, say, Asian background ‘just because you live in Britain and speak British it doesn’t make you British’ the Asian person in question would have told them to get to fuck rather than going to the police and if they had gone to the police nothing would happen.

Stuff only happens when white men go to the police.

Look at the thing with Kevin Spacey. One man says that he was assulted and his career was over. How many women had to complain about other actors etc for anyone to notice?

user1457017537 · 07/08/2018 13:30

Refuse the “chat”. Also DO NOT accept or sign a police caution. This is an admission of guilt and may prejudice and hurt your career prospects. You are never informed of this in a police station

Mossandclover · 07/08/2018 13:30

Insisting in a beligerant manner that a hand bag and nail varnish makes you a women is offensive. Calling the police to emphasise your point is surely harassment?

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 07/08/2018 13:33

I'm saying when you raise you voice and deliver something to someone knowing that they will find it hurtful and offensive I don't care one bloody jot how true it is. And if you do it over and over again, neither does the law, and you will have committed a crime.

Oh yes, all the men calling out and abusing all the women who suffer it, the cops will be right round tomorrow for a chat. Everything from 'Nice tits perky' will be investigated as a matter of urgency.

Lol. You can't make this level of batshit up.
