That the one I meant re Speakers' Corner

Charliethefeminist · 30/08/2018 21:35

Ugh, disgusting, shameless

R0wantrees · 30/08/2018 23:49

Ada, of the ponytail at speakers' corner, I think

Ada supported T Wolf during the trial which resulted in being found guilty of assaulting Maria Maclachlan verdict.

Ada released the statement (pictured) afterwards which was widely shared by some TRAs and was also part of the NUS Trans 18 conference:

Rose of Dawn: "It’s now almost September. The investigation into Jess Bradley still hasn’t finished. Either that, or they’re keeping so quiet that nobody knows the answer. It appears they’re going against their own timescales for investigation (unless Bradley is a member of ACTS)."

Attached image shows NUS investigation timescales.

Thanks for keeping on top of this, Rose of Dawn, if you're reading this. We haven't forgotten either.

Yes thanks Rose of Dawn

Jess Bradley's suspension from NUS pending investigation was first covered by the Mail on Sunday July 29th 2018:

"Britain's first official transgender student officer suspended over claims she posted explicit photographs of a person flashing in a train carriage and public park to her online blog
Britain's first official ‘transgender students’ officer’ has been suspended over allegations that she posted explicit photographs on a blog called 'Exhibitioinizm'
Jess Bradley's images show an individual flashing while sitting in a train carriage
Her law firm sought to prevent the publication of the story on privacy grounds"

I'm pretty aghast at this statement and by the person saying

I saw that Brave. I researched the organisation that woman works for and I think she's down with the 'let's not make child rapists feel bad because then they might offend again'. I ended up reading an article on their webiste about a guy called Aaron Collis who abused 11 children and was very keen in the article (from 2016) not to abuse again.

Guess what? www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/smirking-paedophile-boasts-sending-whatsapp-10513069

So that's nice. I don't believe that child rapists can ever be rehabilitated.

Vickyyyy · 03/09/2018 21:51

Bumping to keep this in the public eye, tbh. I refuse to let this slip away quietly, and surely any investigation should be pretty much wrapped up..especially as one of the photos I (unfortunately) saw appeared to be the cock out in public at their work desk

trumpetoftheswan · 03/09/2018 22:07

Sorry to slightly derail..... but Ada Cable. Is Ada indeed the ponytailed person that can be seen squaring up to a female TA when he is pulled away from the mob around Maria Mc after Tara has assaulted her in the Speaker's Corner footage?

Jess Bradley Manchester Pride- anti-police / prison abolisionist protest 2016
(extract)
'the group used their banners and bodies to stop the Greater Manchester Police float from participating in the parade and it was several minutes before the parade was able to continue. The group was led by trans campaign group Direct Action for Trans Health as well as No Prisons Manchester and the IWW Incarcerated Workers Committee. A statement released by Direct Action argued that trans prisoners that are sentenced to jail are sent to the prisons of the wrong gender. They referenced the cases of Tara Hudson, Vicky Thompson and Joanne Latham who were female prisoners sent to male prisons. "Trans people within the prison population are often housed within prison facilities of the wrong gender. Recently we have seen the cases of Tara Hudson, Vicky Thompson and Joanne Latham, trans women incarcerated within male prisons, in the news." "We believe that police officers, regardless of their own sexuality or gender identity, are complicit in the prison system's degradation of human lives and the oppression of LGBTQ people." Jess Bradley, one of the participants in the protest, said: "We have taken action in solidarity with trans and queer prisoners and against the building of a new US-style prison in Manchester. We call upon the government to implement a nationwide ban on prison expansion and an urgent review into conditions within prisons for LGBTQ prisoners."

Rowan yet when a group of lesbians do similar, they are vilified and condemned. Interesting isn't it?

R0wantrees · 04/09/2018 10:53

Its pretty extraordinary Accio & this is not the only protest Jess Bradley was involved with. Have you seen the clip of Jess, current NUS officer Rob Noon and others (from Action for Trans Health) protesting in Scotland.

(Jess Bradley is bumped out of the way by a marching pipers band- linked previously on thread and worth watching)

I was also reading recently protest against Prides for bisexual rights that Edward Lord was involved with. Lord's 2017 comments are worth comparing with the statement from 'Get the L Out' following Pride London:

"Yesterday’s release of the Community Advisory Board’s annual report into this year’s Pride in London, and the social media storm that followed, was an interesting and painful experience for me. Whilst the wave of euphoria that I have felt supporting the CAB from bi and queer friends, and from those who feel that Pride has lost its edge as a protest and become too corporate, has been very welcome; the sharp criticism from the lesbian and gay mainstream, especially Pride’s organisers has been uncomfortable and name-calling.

This year’s CAB report was critical, and unashamedly so. It pointed out real and serious failings by the Pride organisers around issues of diversity and inclusion, especially of BAME and bi people. The response from the Pride Board has failed to address any of the significant and genuine concerns about diversity, but has instead focused on process, and attempted to undermine the members of the CAB. They have said that our report isn’t statistically based, that we are unrepresentative, that we don’t portray the majority opinion which was favourable about Pride. But that’s exactly the point. We’re not here to speak for the majority. The Community Advisory Board exists to represent those who aren’t necessarily in the lesbian and gay mainstream, to ensure their voices – those of the marginalised, the excluded, the erased – are heard and that this is their Pride too." AccioWine · 04/09/2018 11:03

The double standards are astounding. And so so infuriating!

R0wantrees · 04/09/2018 11:10

It's also infuriating that at no point journalists who covered the protest at Pride London by lesbians ever looked into previous protests.

It was a straight forward question to all those TRAs and 'allies' who complained, why was this protest so 'beyond the pale' when previous protests were acceptable and/or or celebrated?

AccioWine · 04/09/2018 11:46

R0wan it's those pesky blinkers- no looking back or forward!

R0wantrees · 04/09/2018 11:51

Accio Blinkers yes and also its lazy journalism, the absence of critical thinking and bloody frustrating!

R0wantrees · 04/09/2018 11:54

Antidote though in James Kirkup's article today, worth reading in its entirety:
concludes:
"At around the same time, it emerged that Lucas had been added to Terfblocker, an online widget that allows someone to ensure that they are never exposed to the hateful words of people who fail to follow trans orthodoxy, by automatically blocking them on Twitter. According to Lucas’ own account, Aimee Challoner helped run Terfblocker, helping to ensure the voices of thousands of women (and a few men) are kept quiet online.

At the last count, the list blocks more than 10,000 usernames – mine included – belonging to people who are, by implication, accused of wickedness and cast into the electronic darkness. Now Lucas’ name is there too. So it’s official: Caroline Lucas, Green leader and champion of transgender rights, is a Terf whose words must not be heard. That’ll teach her to watch her mouth, eh lads?

And that, dear reader, brings us to the end of this very (post)modern tale of political spite, a story that offers another glimpse into the curious world of transgender politics where no-one – or at least, no woman – is safe from the mob. Remember to mind your opinions, ladies: you could be next!"

Rose of Dawn NUS update:
"There’s still no update regarding the Jess Bradley investigation. I’ve been informed it’s being looked into at the ‘board level’ - so quite high up. No response to why this hasn’t been done in the 14 days set out in the code of conduct.

I’ll update when I have more information."

R0wantrees · 05/09/2018 13:07

it would be interesting to know how involved with TELI Jess Bradley is currently.

Also worth mentioning that the WEP conference is this weekend. The two announced lawyers providing answers at the GRA panel seesion are both involved with TELI, one being a co-founder.
