What ARE the "gender traits" of a woman?

Following on from comments in other posts, about what construes the "gender traits" of a woman....what the fuck are they?

If they're what I THINK they are....I don't have a single female friend who fits neatly into that space on the game board, not one. On the other hand, looking at "gender traits" of a man, I don't think I have any males in my life who slot in perfectly, either.

Does anyone fit it perfectly? Anyone REAL, I mean. Not some fictional character, I mean a real life living human being.

There are none.

Lottapianos · 01/08/2018 17:08

I'll have a go:

Amiable
Caring
Smiley
Has, or at least wants, children
Always puts others first
Invested in looking 'nice'
Interested in clothes, shoes, make up
Obsessed with shopping, chocolate, prosecco, gin, romantic comedies etc

I know there are LOADS of others, but worryingly, they've become so much a part of what is accepted by society that I'm having a hard time thinking of others right now

And yes, of course it's total bollocks. No one is a walking stereotype

Melamin · 01/08/2018 17:10

What's gender? What's traits?

Lancelottie · 01/08/2018 17:12

I can only come up with 'referred to as 'she'', 'may have name not currently used for men' and 'sometimes wears skirts or makeup without a theatrical reason'.

sociopathsunited · 01/08/2018 17:12

Nobody conforms, do they? Not really. My husband cries. I'm quite fond of embroidery and throwing punches (kickboxing, it's legal, honest).

I agree, OP, I don't think anyone conforms to their gender stereotypes. Gender stereotypes are utter pants.

Agastache · 01/08/2018 17:18

Pissing on a toilet sitting down? Which men can do so...possibly not.

PhiloTube · 01/08/2018 17:18

The above list is a joke right? That's what I'd expect a creepy man to say about me when trying to come across as terribly understanding. I'm not most of those things, and you certainly do not need to want children, that's insulting. Can we not just say "born with female reproductive anatomy?

sociopathsunited · 01/08/2018 17:19

So it's all just a lot of hot air, no? It's just one big giant fart that's polluting the atmosphere right now, and causing an awful lot of us to gag our guts up. If there are no gender traits, then there's no way to define someone by their traits or particular foibles. It's just.......them. Being them. Being themselves. Being their own lovely unique wonderful selves.

What a crock of shit the whole thing is.

I don't know. I failed female socialisation and am inclined to say "fuck off" a lot. Usually to men.

Lottapianos · 01/08/2018 17:22

Philo, it's a list of stereotyped female behaviours. It's examples of what society expects from women. It's not my personal list of 'what makes a real women'

PhiloTube · 01/08/2018 17:25

Oh sorry! You're spot on so!!

BirthCanal · 01/08/2018 17:26

Lotto you forgot likes pink and sparklies - that's what makes parents realise their boy is actually a girl, after all.

sociopathsunited · 01/08/2018 17:27

It's a weird one. I can't name a single female or male who fits the stereotypes. I expect I could go back a few hundred years and STILL not find a female or male who fits the stereotypes. Not completely. Because I don't know what the stereotypes are. They're different, depending on where you are in the world. How can it be a "gender typical trait" if women in one part of the world conform by doing one thing, and women elsewhere do the exact opposite?

We all like unicorns. And we are THRILLED to do jobs that don't get paid much and have no desire to achieve things (on the second point I refer you to a recent mumsnet threat which I couldn't find about how women just aren't interested in being ambitious and we just love caring for other people).

AsAProfessionalFekko · 01/08/2018 17:28

I'm beginning to wonder these days.

The vocal folks who have chosen to become women seem to have a rather specific image of a type of women in their heads that I don't recognise.

Lottapianos · 01/08/2018 17:29

'Lotto you forgot likes pink and sparklies'

Indeed. Little boys who like glitter or tutus or dollies - clearly a girl Hmm

aaarrrggghhhh · 01/08/2018 17:29

What I do love though is that TRAs are at the forefront of the feminist fight against the caring stereotypes - they won't be doing any of the unpaid caring labour rest assured.

Mrskeats · 01/08/2018 17:29

In my case it means being pissed off with all this gender nonsense.

Lottapianos · 01/08/2018 17:30

'The vocal folks who have chosen to become women seem to have a rather specific image of a type of women in their heads that I don't recognise.'

Absolutely and it seems to be mostly about mascara, heels, hair flicking and assorted other stuff that MANY actual women couldn't give a shit about

AsAProfessionalFekko · 01/08/2018 17:31

💁‍♀️🤷‍♀️🙅‍♀️ you forgot all the hand movements and hair flicks. And the fairies, sparkles, my little ponies, rainbows and nice dresses. A bit like a 5 year old really.

Lottapianos · 01/08/2018 17:32

'we just love caring for other people).'

Yep. And along with housework, it doesn't even count as actual work, it's just 'stuff women do that men couldn't possibly be expected to' Hmm

AsAProfessionalFekko · 01/08/2018 17:33

And whispy voices like Marilyn Monroe with tonsillitis.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 01/08/2018 17:35

My little pics came out as female signs! Let me try again ! 💁‍♀️🙅‍♀️🤷‍♀️💇‍♀️🧜‍♀️🧚‍♂️🧚‍♀️🌈💄💋💃👠👗✨💪🧠

AsAProfessionalFekko · 01/08/2018 17:35

Oh the female signs disappeared... How odd (and rather disconcerting)
