What ARE the "gender traits" of a woman?

Following on from comments in other posts, about what construes the "gender traits" of a woman....what the fuck are they?

If they're what I THINK they are....I don't have a single female friend who fits neatly into that space on the game board, not one. On the other hand, looking at "gender traits" of a man, I don't think I have any males in my life who slot in perfectly, either.

Does anyone fit it perfectly? Anyone REAL, I mean. Not some fictional character, I mean a real life living human being.

A visual description of a person I know
About 5.3 tall
Black and white pumps
Black jeans
Grey T-shirt
Large tattoos covering both forearms
Black ring through septum, black stud on either side of bottom lip, Silver rings with black balls in each ear
Cropped hair, about number 3
Are they a man or a woman?

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 01/08/2018 22:56

This is why I have my response of identifying as 'gender non-conforming' if anyone labels me cis.
Nobody can say otherwise.

thebewilderness · 01/08/2018 22:57

A lot of the identities that young girls have adopted seem to me to be ways for them to justify saying no to boys and men without being assaulted or demonized.

BlackeyedSusan · 01/08/2018 23:07

agastache... thats what ovens are for, to kill the germs..

sociopathsunited · 01/08/2018 23:07

Shit.

I think I'm a man.

Hmm

Actually... gender trait of woman = a naturally occurring cunt. How about that?

or just fuck that gender shit off altogether

HotRocker · 02/08/2018 00:03

Well, the person I described was me, if you hadn’t already guessed. That’s what I look like, today, although I forgot my coiled snake ring on my middle finger. If you walked round the street looking for someone with that description you could be either looking for a woman, or a short bloke. If there was such things as female traits, you’d see them every day, but you don’t, because everyone is different. There can’t be a list of ways to be a woman, because there’s currently about 11 billion different ways to be a human.

LanguageAsAFlower · 02/08/2018 00:08

First thing that comes up on Google.

My SIL loves all things pink, sparkly and frilly. Coos over small, fluffy animals. Always wears makeup and depilates ruthlessly. Buys too many handbags. Drinks too much prosecco and gin. Thinks a holiday at Disneyworld would be a dream come true. Never reads a newspaper.

I loathe pink, would run screaming from anything sparkly, and come out in hives in Per Una. I like cats but only within reason. I never wear skirts. I have too many books. I don't shave my legs. I don't drink. Threatening me with a 'spa day' or a 'girls' night out' would be grounds for divorce.

And yet both SIL and I are women. How can that possibly be? Hmm

NothingOnTellyAgain · 02/08/2018 09:52

standing like "I'm a little teapot" is a massive universal gender trait, and is ably demonstrated by shop mannequins everywhere and also pips/ Phil bunce on a girl day.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 02/08/2018 09:56

Hotrocker-

I'd put my money on female, due to the height. While 5'3 is a well within average height for a woman, it's rare to see a grown man that short.

So if I we're betting- female.

The rest is entirely irrelevant to sex.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 02/08/2018 10:08

Can't link pics on phone.

I'm a little teapot

I find this almost more infuriating than anything else. They are so clearly acting out something in their imagination that is "this is what women are like" while casually ignoring what women are actually like. It's so extreme it feels like a poss take. This person was I believe on some kind of panel about GG "inclusion" (ie inclusion of dick) policy. Also think they have won a "women in business" award.

They have enormous power, wealth and imfluence.

They also go and cry in the ladies if someone accidentally calls them phil on a pips day -

This is a huge ask, to switch between 2 names daily and expect everyone to never muck it up. That's not how the human brain works. To expect people to see him as two different people and therefore never get the name wrong is ludicrous. It is setting people up to fail (maybe a good way to push out people at work PB doesn't like?)

hungryhippie · 02/08/2018 10:13

This is what I tried to explain to my 15 year old son.
How can there be gender traits that mean you are either a woman or a man, when these traits arent universal?

Women in tribes in Brazil for example, probably do not meet any of those stereotypes, yet are all woman because their biology says so.

I have a mixture of "traits" from both the male and female lists provided and I don't "feel" like a woman OR a man, I just AM a woman.

My 15 year old insisted that that makes me none binary then.... "No son, i'm DEFINITELY a woman".

WomanInBoots · 02/08/2018 11:02

Agree NothingOnTelly it feels like a piss take. I've never understood the humour of drag artists or pantomime dames either to be honest. Feels like men having a laugh at women's expense to me. Maybe my sense of humour is not fully functioning though, I don't know.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 02/08/2018 11:18

take football - a child playing football in the UK is more likely to be a boy, whereas in the US it's more likely to be a girl soccer being a "girls sport" there. How do genderists work that one out? What happens if the child's family moves countries? Do they need to change sports? Or just be boringly gender conforming rather than super special?

D0do · 02/08/2018 11:28

Take your blood pressure tablets before you read this article. It's about a femme-presenting (no, me neither) trans man who hasn't changed pronouns. The person concerned knows they're a man, though, because they don't wear make up any more. Or possibly they do now. I lost the will to live part way through.

FloralBunting · 02/08/2018 11:51

I had a breakthrough conversation with DP about gender the other day. He finally understands the difference between gender and sex, and I think it's going to be tremendously helpful moving forward with our GNC daughter.

It hinged on him recognizing that gender has a negative effect on men, of course, with ideas like 'big boys don't cry' and so on. But once he saw the demonstrably stupid rules like that about male 'gender', instead of defending the 'positive' male gender rules like 'provider' etc. he began to see how much it restricted everyone.

This is significant because of our history as part of very strict Christian genderism and the hangover that leaves you with. We talked about how my son is the most empathetic of my children, and how his favourite activities as a kid were carrying a handbag with random junk in, pushing a pushchair and cooing over babies. Things which were pegged as 'feminine', but that actually made no rational sense.

BeUpStanding · 02/08/2018 12:01

Don't forget that exclusively female trait of 'multi-tasking' Hmm. Whenever it's mentioned, always by a man, I can't help pointing out that its just bollocks men say to get women to do everything.

BeUpStanding · 02/08/2018 12:04

Also women have no body hair, don't get sweaty, have no bodily functions (especially noisy or smelly ones), and enjoy wearing extremely uncomfortable shoes that make their feet bleed & prevent them from moving any faster than a slow totter.

D0do · 02/08/2018 13:10

Yes, India Willoughby kindly explained that hair on a woman's legs is dirty. I imagine the sight of hair on certain other parts of the anatomy would cause India to have a seizure.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/08/2018 13:37

Shit, that 'feminine traits we love: a women's day celebration' list include vulnerability.
ConfusedAngry

FloralBunting · 02/08/2018 13:41

Vulnerability as a 'loveable female trait'? Is that because it makes us so much easier to manipulate and hold down? FFS.

HobNobcentral · 02/08/2018 14:00

You forgot knitting…

All real women carry a bag of knitting (or other feminine like activity such as crochet or cross-stich)
And then when involved in important discussions knit passive aggressively to remin them all that you’re a real woman.
