I concur. And I don't think we are a minority, but I would be interested in statistics comparing heightened attention to the issue with personal experience of male violence and/or being in some other way personally exposed to the receiving end of it, vs. the general population - many seem to laugh it away and think it preposterous, as they don't know about the campaigning for changes to law, or the general trend towards the 'trans umbrella' not being so much about 'traditional' transsexuals anymore.

The real problems can, of course, be found in the more-or-less fine print of law.

The big problem is that we make sense, albeit in a less 'fun' way.

The privacy thing (sorry, can't seem to copy anything at the moment) ... the Cliff Richard argument isn't saying she should have privacy in a general way, it's that she has a reasonable expectation of privacy in relation to a an investigation, especially one into events of this nature. In respect of a police investigation, the judgment comments that usually there's no reason why anyone outside the force should know.

Undercoverswede · 01/08/2018 18:09

I suspect it would be judged to be in the public's interest if someone working with young people, even university students, and particularly from a position of authority afforded them by their job title, engages is exhibitionism and 'daddy rape' fantasies, tbh.

BettyDuMonde · 01/08/2018 18:15

I was thinking - according to various unsubstantiated online rumours and the contents of the Exhibitionizm blog, JB doesn’t fit either of Blanchard’s types.

JB certainly isn’t your average well-passing, straight acting (formerly super feminine gay man) HSTS, nor are they the typical once hyper masculine, late transitioning, overly sexy attired AGP (the male-bodied lesbian/pseudo-bisexual* type).

It’s generally been noted that AGPs are transitioning much earlier than they used to, but JB doesn’t really sit there either due to the lack of interest in sexualised feminity and what seems to be a sexual predilection for younger (appearing!) men.

Does this mean that there is a new, third type? Or is this genuinely a case of ‘no true transwomen’? Is it possible that JB’s real interest in the title of ‘woman’ is as a predators disguise? After all, everyone knows that women are statistically less likely to be sex offenders and are utilised by society as safeguarded/gatekeepers to protect the vulnerable.

We know that predators select and train for careers that put them directly in touch with their intended targets and spend years ‘undercover’ grooming potential prey. We know that ‘flashing’ is a crime that escalates.

Anyone associated with JB or their multiple organisations, trans or otherwise, needs to have a really good think about any red flags they might’ve missed, report anything they come up with to the authorities and totally distance themselves.

Up here, a local Tory councillor, a TEACHER, was recently convicted of child pornography possession. His ‘circle of associates’ included another Tory councillor in a different part of the country.

I know damn well that Not All Trans Are Like This - I have trans friends and am careful to pay attention to trans voices in this debate - but sex offenders are bloody everywhere, so for crikeys sake, don’t let them shelter under your umbrella if you can avoid it!

nauticant · 01/08/2018 18:48

I suspect BettyDuMonde, the answer to your "third type" question is in the final paragraph of your post. Blanchard was probably dealing with a much narrower umbrella and the broadening has brought in loads of narcissistic types ready to use whichever tool is available to control others. In this case this just happens to be "gender transition".

I do agree, but the Beeb relied on similar arguments and they failed in the Sir Cliff case.

Yes, and yes, Betty.

There seem to be loads of predatory men jumping on the 'transwoman' identity train in order to better facilitate their predatory and abusive ways. It's a win-win for them: increased access to women and children, the shield of 'most oppressed ever' PLUS nobody being able to identify your male-pattern offending because no one is allowed to point out you are male.

These men aren't autogynephiles (most seem to be ultra low-effort 'transitioners' - a coat of lipstick, maybe, if they can be bothered). They are your garden variety pervs and abusers, who have realised that trans identity provides a marvellous shield for getting away with behaviour that would be condemned or prohibited in a 'cis' man.

Melamin · 01/08/2018 19:45

So - it isn't just a the case that dropping gatekeeping allows pervs into sex segregated spaces, but that it also provides an invisibility cloak to those who would like a wider field to target.

Pretty much. And an awful lot of people (including women, including women which children) cannot see this.

I'd like to thank @MNHQ for allowing this discussion to take place.

I don't know why I'm shocked by this. I sort of knew, but it is a creeping realisation that comes over you. It is beyond just knowing and understanding.

nauticant · 01/08/2018 20:09

It makes sense. Have you noticed for example how there is continual deployment of human shields, different ones for different purposes? It's all about making sure that public all large don't get to pull back the curtain.

Melamin · 01/08/2018 20:12

Balloon dancing.

FrenchDucksSayCoinCoin · 01/08/2018 20:19

Thanks for posting those links earlier BettyDuMonde, lots to read there. The two bits I found most concerning were these, I think from the third link.

Motion 502: Sexual and Domestic Violence

Conference believes

  1. Many crisis services for people experiencing sexual and domestic violence are gendered, and are women-only.
  2. Some crisis services that are women-only do not allow trans women to access them.

Conference resolves

  1. To advocate for all women-only crisis services to be inclusive of trans women

Motion 503: Transmisogyny and the Gender Recognition Act

Conference further believes

  1. We support the existence of women’s-only spaces and services. We want these to be open to all women (cis, trans, intersex and/or non-binary), not just those assigned female at birth.

Only a few weeks ago I thought self ID would probably be okay, sport was the main problem as far as I could see.

I can see further now. Not sure I like the view that much.

BettyDuMonde · 01/08/2018 20:44

You’re welcome, French ducks

I used to think my more radfem mates were totally over reacting about the TRA-thing. Then a series of small incidents sent me off to Aunty Google and I fell down the rabbit hole.
Funny thing is, I keep thinking that i’ve made it all the way to the bottom (through the ‘radicalisation portal’ that is Mumsnet FWR Grin ) and then something happens like this JB business and we collectively dig a bit further and you realise we are still in free fall.

I mean, I can see why someone like JB would be campaigning for the end of medicalised ‘gatekeeping’ - JB is likely exactly the sort of person who gets weeded out quicksmart by the experienced doctors working on the gender reassignment pathway. Red flags waving all over the place.

If you haven’t looked at Action for Trans Health’s manifesto, you really should (I will go find a link shortly). It’s utter batshittery and would be funny as fuck if you didn’t know it’s author was advising the government on law changes that will make safeguarding vulnerable people near impossible, and that their advice is being taken on board.

Add on the recent revelations and self ID is looking more and more like a perverts charter.

drspouse · 01/08/2018 20:51

So JB was brought up in a strict religious family, and everyone had to stick to strict gender roles (including hats!).
Now it's all exposing genitals and not being able to make up their mind about name/date of birth/identity.
How very not surprising.
Shame the NUS won't fund proper therapy instead of legal services.

BettyDuMonde · 01/08/2018 20:59

When I think of the generation of young women now believing themselves to be trans (and taking testosterone and having full mastectomies) in the context of online grooming and male pattern abuse, I find my mind wandering to a very dark place.

Is it possible that some predators would actually get a kick out of anonymously power tripping teenage girls (and boys, but mostly girls) into self mutilation?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/08/2018 21:04

I'm really hoping it's not. I think it's more that TRAs need children to be trans to prove that it's innate, and not some sort of sexual fetish.

Women and children are being so appallingly let down by government.

Listening to Blur today and I suddenly thought you all might enjoy Mr Robinson's Quangos.

As you were.

Bouledeneige · 01/08/2018 21:24

I've just been reading Twitter on this issue. I feel very strongly that the NUS needs to focus more on protecting women than using lawyers to protect their reputation and their trans officer.

If protecting women from feeling safe from sexual harrassment, intimidation, flashing and rape is no longer a priority they should be ashamed of themselves and we will look back on this era when women were robbed of their hard won and yet still fragile rights.

I spent the other evening explaining this all to my teen DD. She was shocked - having been brainwashed at school by the self ID brigade. We then discussed the routine harassment of her and her friends when they go clubbing - it's far worse than I remember as a student. And that's without the issues of being stalked and followed and threatened. Many young women have, through open hearted liberalism and goodwill, been cheated by the trans agenda. Where's the NUS championing and protecting women's rights rather than reducing them and sublimating them to trans intimidation?

They should be ashamed. The only thing that gets stronger through all of this is misogyny.
