Does anyone here know what organisational form Action for Trans Health (allegedly in receipt of govt funding) has? NUS is a charity. The definitions of 'charitable purposes' potentially make the stated purposes of these organisations, if altered by the changes promoted by JB, a smidge iffy (e.g. the abolition of prisons, which arguably could be questioned under the rubric "detriment or harm that results from the purpose must not outweigh the benefit").
The fixation on the abolition of prisons that seems to come with JB as they move between organisations appears more persistent than even their fixation on gender issues. As does their interest in public nudity, as per the article discussed in the Manchester Evening News 2011, when 'they' were still a 'he'.
Also, "a purpose that is 'political' cannot be a charitable purpose", while a charity can "carry out 'political activity' if it facilitates or supports the delivery of its charitable purposes." The legalese on the Charity Commission's website may not be without ambiguity, but how could one argue that, for example, the political campaigning for the abolition of prisons supports trans health - or the interests of students?
