When you see threads plopped into FWR, especially the curious repeat of well worn subjects, I recommend you check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads being referenced on twitter with screen shots & flagging in either MNHQ or outlets to try & get articles commissioned.

OP posts:
Ereshkigal · 15/08/2018 08:51

What was that one?

LangCleg · 15/08/2018 08:58

I wish everybody would stop being sucked in to these threads. They're so obvious. And - even though I do know this is the intended consequence - I really can't be arsed trawling through dozens of threads to find the few where we are actually talking productively to each other. It's so time consuming and pointless. I'd rather pick my nose and stare at the wall. I'm already posting less and eventually I'll probably just fade away from the forum. I know it's what they want but y'know.

Ereshkigal · 15/08/2018 09:06

To be fair, Lang, I think people felt obliged to respond to that thread and condemn the threats for fear of it being screenshot that no one in FWR cares, as has happened before. I am normally wise to these transparent tactics but I felt I should myself. Quite irritated at myself actually!

ballsballsballs · 15/08/2018 09:12

Bump!

FermatsTheorem · 15/08/2018 09:12

Yup, what Erish said. It's bait and switch. Respond and you're screen grab fodder. Don't respond and it's evidence that people don't care.

FWIW, the case in question was horrific: what those adults are threatening towards a child has no excuse whatsoever and is disgusting. But I object to that child's suffering being weaponised to provide screen grabs. That's pretty low behaviour.

Ereshkigal · 15/08/2018 09:16

It is.

Ereshkigal · 15/08/2018 09:17

I won't derail this thread, but there is some discussion about this tactic on the thread in question.

LangCleg · 15/08/2018 09:19

Sorry, wasn't clear. I meant generally rather than that particular thread (although I ignored that particular thread as I felt it was completely transparent. I don't have anything whatsoever to prove to anti-woman activists and I don't care what they think about that).

Ereshkigal · 15/08/2018 09:20

Fair enough, I understand your position, I do try not to get sucked in but sometimes find it hard.

LangCleg · 15/08/2018 09:24

Well, I find myself in a testy phase at the moment so ignore me if I whinge and moan. I'll get over it at some point!

SturdyEarmuffs · 15/08/2018 23:08

Timely bump

heresyandwitchcraft · 16/08/2018 20:31

bump

PencilsInSpace · 16/08/2018 22:18

LangCleg I understand where you're coming from, I've been posting a lot less recently for similar reasons. MN feels less and less like somewhere I can freely debate and work out what I think, and more and more like somewhere my contributions will be dangled as clickbait for advertising profit.

MN is still uniquely valuable in this debate because:

  • we have relatively free speech here, despite the recent unhelpful rules
  • we can be anonymous or pseudonymous
  • there are a huge number of women who come to MN who haven't noticed what's going on yet, and maybe wouldn't describe themselves as feminist yet - we get to share what we know with a huge number of ordinary women
  • We're a parenting site so we're the natural home of discussions around children's wellbeing and safeguarding
  • we have a long and honourable tradition of supportive but no-nonsense woman- and child-centred relationship advice.

I can't think of anywhere else that combines all these things so well. This is why TRAs are scared of us.

I'm no longer here because I trust MN or think it's a brilliant platform, or because it feels like my community. I'm still here because despite how pissed off I am, it's still one of the best ways we have for getting information out to ordinary women.

If that stops I'm gone.

Iused2BanOptimist · 17/08/2018 07:51

Bump time as there are some new really stupid threads going up.

sexnotgender · 17/08/2018 07:56

Do none of these people have an actual job? They seem to have an awful lot of time on their hands to troll and get their cocks out.

FermatsTheorem · 17/08/2018 08:04

C'mon, you've gotta love the drip feed of "my hubby's a lord". That's the kind of low-rent trolling that makes me nostalgic for the old days when all this was fields.

FlippinFumin · 17/08/2018 08:06

Of course they aren't at work. Some of them will be waiting to go back to college or uni. The older ones, well this is their job. I was going to write more, but I find I cannnot be bothered with it. This post only needs to be a bump Hmm

ErrolTheDragon · 17/08/2018 12:58

Y'all ready for a lunchtime bump?

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 17/08/2018 13:00

I was just wondering whether elbow in ear should join ducking under a bar in the new Olympics? True, it doesn't give a specifically female advantage, but I think the playing field in levels of impossibility would be equal...

FloralBunting · 17/08/2018 13:01

I'm nervous about stray apostrophe's creeping into my text now. Once you see how easy it is for someone to do it, it's a slippery slope.

I was thinking that too.

Obviously we'd all be wearing sturdy pyjamas.

heresyandwitchcraft · 17/08/2018 13:06

Lol, I was gonna add that thread to the FAQs under "Are we Texan radicals who can stick our elbows in our ears?" Kind of sad it disappeared now.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/08/2018 13:10

Even with this new sport, there's a bloke who's got an advantage.

sexnotgender · 17/08/2018 13:13

I’m not sure ya’ll are taking this seriously.

AngelsAckiz · 17/08/2018 13:28

Ne'ed to be more serious ya"all
