www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6003331/Britains-official-transgender-student-officer-suspended.html

"Shocking images on the site show an individual flashing while sitting in a train carriage, in a public park and at a bus stop.

Another photograph shows male genitals being exposed in an office close to a curved wooden desk that is strikingly similar to a picture of a work desk that Ms Bradley posted on her Facebook page. "

The photo have been archived on archive.is, you can search there under the domain exhbitionizm.tumblr.com and include lots of flashing shots.

Bradley has commented:

" I appreciate at this time there is a lot of speculation about my conduct and I am able to tell you that I am confident that none of my behaviour has been unlawful, and that I have not engaged in sexual activity with anyone, or in the view of anyone, without their consent. "

So there has been radio silence from the usual suspects on Twitter over this then hasn't there?

Crickets chasing tumbleweed.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall at TRAHQ, just to see the meltdowns & recriminations lobbed at each other. Fingers being pointed at who leaked, who knew what, who tried to shut people up, while trying to figure out how to spin their way out of this.

FermatsTheorem · 29/07/2018 18:17

A simple 'might this come back and bite me on the arse?' would be my starting point.

Yes, or as they used to put it in one of my former workplaces, "what would this decision look like splashed across the front page of the Daily Mail?"

Actually, the idea that the Sun might string this out over a series of articles is quite appealing. Streisand effect big time. Keep reminding people about it, teasing them with a bit more info. Much more effective than a one-off article, today's news, tomorrow's chip wrapping.

If you don't identify as something, do you even exist?

You jest, but that's pretty much what Labour said when challenged on their wording that all-women short lists were open to anyone who identified as women. IIRC, when asked "but what about women who don't 'identify' as women, but simply are women" a certain women's officer in a constituency said that such women would be unable to apply because they weren't prepared to "identify" as women (rather than simply being women). Said women's officer came across as quite gleeful about this prospect.

LighthouseSouth · 29/07/2018 18:22

@FermatsTheorem

I don't get why they don't see the flip side - or are they actually aiming to throw out all targeted things? So I could apply to get into over 60s housing if slightly cheaper even though I'm not near 60 yet?!

I could definitely "identify" as feeling about 100 after reading shite like this!

hackmum · 29/07/2018 18:25

VickyEadie: "You'd think they'd do some simple digging (it's never been easier) before they take advice from or lend their support to specific individuals. A simple 'might this come back and bite me on the arse?' would be my starting point."

Agreed. How many times does it have to happen before they learn from it? It's like when Angela Rayner said she was keeping a seat warm in parliament for Lily Madigan - even a cursory bit of internet research could have shown her what a bad idea that was. I really wonder what is wrong with these people - they're our elected representatives and are supposed to have some level of basic common sense at least but they appear to be as thick as mince.

terryleather · 29/07/2018 18:26

I don't think anyone wants to touch it silent.

There have been a few threads here on MN connecting parts of it together such as Mermaids with the police etc but a big over all picture would be very interesting.

Hangingaroundtheportal · 29/07/2018 18:32

The 'you can't tar all trans people with the same brush because of the actions of one' argument doesn't wash at all here.

This is someone who has been vociferously saying that women have nothing to fear from male bodied people in female spaces, whilst apparently exhibiting the very behaviour that women have voiced concerns about.

The TRAs know they can't use this argument.

leyat · 29/07/2018 18:32

One thing to remember about flashing; it's not just the case that women don't flash their genitals and only commit a tiny fraction of sexual crime, but it's also the fact that males are also capable of rape, and if a male flashes you, especially if you are the only other person in the room, thereby letting you know they are a sexual predator, it is a completely different type of threat to anything a woman could ever do.

This! This ideology blinds them to all fault.

Words that Jess could do with hearing...

But yes, you're right. I have my darker suspicions about why that is. Nobody is going to join the dots - not yet.

JillyArmeeen · 29/07/2018 18:35

How can I find the tumblr blog? Sorry if someone has already posted a link I can't find it.
Just posted the story on Facebook and want to be armed if anyone asks questions or anything

likeacrow · 29/07/2018 18:42

@VickyEadie I honestly wasn't making a point. I was genuinely just asking the question.

I find the topic of transsexuals really quite confusing as I consider myself liberal so if someone wants to be referred to as a 'she' and live as a woman on the one hand I think live and let live, if that's what makes them happy, cool. But then the stuff I read on here suggests there are more sinister motives for some transsexuals and a potential threat to women, which I find worrying. But then I think shit, this is probably exactly what people felt about gay people back in the day: fear whipped up with the help of tabloids. But then to add to my confusion, many feminists (and I would consider myself one) are against transsexuals identifying as women and in some ways on the same "side" as people who they would never be on the same page as usually.

So I just tie myself in knots trying to figure out what I actually think!

And I wondered if anyone else had this inner conflict, e.g. with the Daily Mail example.

ChocAuVin · 29/07/2018 18:46

Why is this only being reported in the Fail? Angry

OrchidInTheSun · 29/07/2018 18:48

LInks on here Jilly: twitter.com/xNoMoreSilencex/status/1021093767489695745

It's pretty grim tbh

hackmum · 29/07/2018 18:50

Jilly - I think the Tumblr blog has been removed but when I looked earlier the posts had been archived. Try googling "exhibitionizm Tumblr". But I would think twice before looking, because there'll be a record on your computer that you've looked at dodgy material. I rather regret looking it up earlier.

Just thinking about TerfsUp's point that the BBC haven't published anything yet. I don't know what the legal situation is now that the MoS has published. Does it mean that the story is out in the open and therefore anyone can pick it up? Or might Carter-Ruck go after all the places that publish it? Either way, am looking forward to the moment that James Kirkup, Rod Liddle and Brendan O'Neill get their teeth into it.

JillyArmeeen · 29/07/2018 18:57

Thank you. I'm not worried about my computer. I tried Googling, couldn't find the right one but all the results for exhibitionizm. Tumblr are dodgy as fuck.

There is no other civil rights movement that erases anyone else's identity or human rights; because that's not how civil rights work.

You dont need to tie yourself in knots. Trans people can fight for a third unisex, gender neutral space. We can support that, and anyone who wants to be inclusive and use that space is welcome to do so.

Anything that works to erode women's rights is a threat to women and you don't have to support it.

FermatsTheorem · 29/07/2018 18:59

I don't think you need worry about dodgy material on your computer too much - images of an erect male penis, posted by the penis's owner, in a publicly viewable place... if that breaks any laws, then everyone in the country who's ever looked at gonzo porn is in trouble.

(I personally don't use visual porn because you can never be sure of the provenance, and there is no way of knowing whether the images in question are filmed evidence of rape, or, in the case of "amateur porn", in fact pieces of revenge porn posted without the owners consent - but the fact remains that a hell of a lot of people in this country do look at porn, and much adult porn is perfectly legal.)

Unpleasant, yes. Less impressive than Jess Bradley thinks it is - hell yes. Illegal - I'd be surprised if you were subjected to a dawn raid for having a record of this in your cache. But certainly don't do it if you're using a work computer.

OlennasWimple · 29/07/2018 19:00

terry - I was thinking along similar lines this morning, having read that Edward Lord (behind the City of London consultation on removing sex segregated spaces) was formally on the board at ASA (the organisation behind the swimming guidelines that have no problem with ladydick in the changing rooms but require transman breasts in the swimming pool to be covered up)

Maybe worth a separate thread?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/07/2018 19:01

Apols if someone else has already linked to this, but the Sun is now suggesting they were going to publish this too. Interesting how different it sounds when just reported as a top union official suspended while allegations of flashing are investigated.

Mxyzptlk · 29/07/2018 19:02

Who was the intended audience for these pictures? Was the blog something that only a few people look at, normally, or something that anyone might happen to see?

arranfan · 29/07/2018 19:03

But certainly don't do it if you're using a work computer.

DH and I have just been having this discussion because when you volunteer for some charities/voluntary organisations they ask you to provide your own laptop. Now, they also mandate that you fill in forms about conflicts of interest, willingness to adopt Nolan principles etc. - but we were specifically wondering about some people's personal laptops used in such settings.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 29/07/2018 19:04

They missed a golden headline there 'union officer suspended for flashing her penis'.

I'm sure Private Eye will pick it up though.

The TRAs use that liberal, left-wing, inner conflict on this issue - speaking as a bi woman, I can assure you that the gay rights movement was never about placing any other group of people in real, actual fear and danger as this movement is. it never sought to over-ride the rights and concerns of a whole sex, it simply wanted the right to live and love in peace.

I'm supportive of anyone's 'right' to live as they want to; but when it transpires that a significant, vocal section of that 'group' wants to erode my freedoms and rights and place me and other members of my sex in danger, my support ends.

I strongly suspect - and evidence like Bradley supports my suspicions - that some members of the group in question have extremely dubious motives.
