Usually when you see hashtags about a diagnosis that doesn't stem from the medical establishment, you would be right to be dubious.
The anti-vaxxers are a good comparison.

There are so many brilliant comments on this thread.

"ROGD is occurring because kids no longer understand puberty and if they feel an outsider which most do during these tumultuous years the trans narrative gives them some sense of validation. Also non conforming children are being steered into a identity that pitches them as the other sex. Parents are not doing this. Trans adults who align themselves with this new ideology are.
You ask us to trust these people over professionals and parents who understand puberty and who understand mental health issues and who understand feelings change.
Since the transgender ideology also says gender can change on a daily bases or you actually can have no gender, how can you insist transgender is something you were born with?
The narrative does not make sense yet we are being forced to believe this.
Why then is ROGD not allowed any credence?
You are redefining sex, language and the diagnosis of Transgender yet you are not allowing other people the same curtesy.
I know my truth and that is this ideology is attempting to erase the sexes. Suddenly I am c** woman. No one asked me if I agreed to this. The trans narrative invented it.
Arguing and debating this is difficult because once one thing is proved incorrect, the trans ideology invent new terms and new ways to put the message across

Now our kids no longer need to have gender dysphoria.

If this is true then basically our kids are just kids who are expressing their personality"

How can anyone argue with this blinding logic. Gender is a social construct, which even those who believe in gender are willing to flex to include no gender or so called agender!

How can a social construct be innate?

Well quite. Btw don't click on their #Domina.

But if you do, you might wonder why taking on a whole bunch pissed off women on mumsnet isn't, um, more enjoyable for some people.

Datun · 28/07/2018 12:51

Oops sorry Italiangreyhound that was to Bungo.

Bumbungo · 28/07/2018 12:54

No I wouldn't., at least not without a VPN.

Bowlofbabelfish · 28/07/2018 12:55

All that stuff under the blurb is a bit like the tickers you get on other parenting sites isn’t it? ‘Shelly-bubs, 22, married to my luff Jayden since 5 years, my kids Braxton-Hicks (1) Landen Park-Laine (2) crunchy mama heart, ebf, baby wearing, ME ME ME ME ME.’

Memememmemememememememeeeeeee!

Bowlofbabelfish · 28/07/2018 12:56

Apologies to any shellys and Jaydens...

Maybe we can just give them a lovely mirror to peck? It might distract.

Icy’s really irritating turns of phrase are a bit Holden Caulfield. Shock

This is an interesting story of a teens detranitioner. Not sure if it has been posted here already or not. 4thwavenow.com/2017/11/07/a-teen-desister-tells-her-story/

I don't have kids but hooted at the notion of a child called Braxton-Hicks.

Excellent counter-view to ROGD

From Lily Maynard's blog where she has written up the experiences of parents of possible ROGD children (my bold):

My daughter qualifies. No dysphoria at puberty at 11. Very feminine after. Decided she was trans around 16 along with an entire friend group. Tumblr, deviantART, YouTube, anime, cosplay, ADHD, anxiety, anorexia, social problems. Currently thinks she’s a gay man.

I've often thought that inhabiting a character online, allows the possible identity schism that appears to be necessary to consider oneself trans.
In the late onset/diversity/lifestyle way.

The notion that one can adopt different personas is a fairly new one. Being a different person for a considerable amount of time, on a regular basis, is becoming a concept that seems to be given a legitimacy it doesn't deserve.

There is the old image of kids emerging from the cinema, having watched a western, firing imaginary guns. And indeed, after I watched Black Swan, I may have done a surreptitious pirouette to the horror of my kids.

It doesn't take much of a leap to see how easy it is to influence one's sense of self.

I wonder if the concept of multiple identities online, impacts with the notion of teens' 'identity' in general.

OvulaRasa · 29/07/2018 14:22

And on the subject of deviation... I'm back to the OP topic of counter-view of ROGD as it is the last day of a very successful awareness raising campaign on #ROGDWEEK2018.

I joined a parents site in desperation that everyone was so happy to erase my dear daughter, indulge her on an impossibility and celebrate her as someone she is clearly not. Very scary that so many adults were prepared to deny biology, reality and where happiness sat.

It got scarier to read the posts and see my own experience mirrored down to the music kids listening to, sites they visited, phrases and language they used to talk or evade to talk on the issues, sexual preferences, mental conditions, traumas and other life experiences.

People from all walks of life in the western Societies. We are not making thus up. It is odd that self-diagnosis of GD is not criticised when ROGD it is. Im not aware of research on self-diagnosis.

The bits about storytelling on the counterview is also quite revealing. Maybe looking at Todorov index will help the author to see that many heroes are originally outcasts and different characters that have to overcome obstacles until they understand their true self. Puberty is one of those journeys as research on teen brain development has shown. Most people feel at odds in one respect or other, managing and navigating discomfort is a way to grow up.

Self diagnosed GD is more likely to be far fetched than ROGD, however I'm prepare to concede they could be two sides of the same coin. Whichever way it needs to be halted and researched thoroughly before handing out hormones as candy and putting young people under life changing surgical interventions.
