Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

What's wrong with fighting for the third space?

DJLippy · 09/07/2018 22:22

Can't we resolve all these Trans vs feminist issues with a third space option?

Male/Female as well as unisex intimate spaces
Unisex for those who do not mind (or don't want to wait ages for the bog!) But M/F spaces respect those who have religious reasons for intimate spaces away from the opposite sex and also people who need these spaces because of trauma.

Prison's for transgender folk who feel threatened in male spaces.
Nobody should be at risk from sexual violence

Domestic violence and rape crisis support services for transwomen.
Don't trans folk deserve specialist services? If I was a victim of assault I would want people who understood me to provide support

This is all I want and I am sure many women on this sight feel the same. Is this a valid working compromise?

I'm not keen on sweet booze any other time of the year Smile

Yambabe · 10/07/2018 22:57

For all you lovers of baileys, try it with a shot of amaretto. 2:1 proportions. It's a bit lush.

BettyDuMonde · 10/07/2018 22:57

I found my late nan’s handwritten xmas cake recipe in a box a while ago. One of the
ingredients was, ‘some booze’.

Glad I missed that dad!

AngryAttackKittens · 10/07/2018 22:57

I once had a coffee martini and sort of assumed it would be creamy (not sure why I ordered it other than already several drinks into the evening), but it was pretty much just espresso with vodka in it. Was odd.

Ereshkigal · 10/07/2018 22:58

Fad! FFS Grin

LangCleg · 10/07/2018 22:59

I've got plenty of compassion for women, but the minority on this forum represent a very small percentage in terms of their views, despite trying to speak for womankind and shout down any opposition.

Yep. Tiny percentage. 82%, in fact. Positively miniscule.

You're not very good at this, are you?

BettyDuMonde · 10/07/2018 22:59

Eresh my DH is a big fan of anything he can add to prosecco, including kirsch (and St Germaine/triple sec/ chambord etc).

HawkeyeInConfusion · 10/07/2018 23:01

I am just Shock at Flutterby's complete dismissal of two women a week being murdered in this country. These women you care nothing about would have been someone's mother, daughter, wife, sister, friend. Somebody loved. Someone with hopes and dreams for the future. All cruelly snatched away from them.

Bespin · 10/07/2018 23:02

BettyDuMonde you add stuff to prosecco why would. you want to do that

LangCleg · 10/07/2018 23:02

Oh bugger. Thread was a page further on than I thought. Sorry to interrupt sweet drinking.

Two words: sloe gin.

Also: chocolate caramel vodka (1 x bar Cadbury Caramel, one bottle of vodka with a bit poured out. Shove choc into vodka bottle, screw cap on tight, stick in dishwasher through a cycle.)

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 10/07/2018 23:03

Rufus I meant that I found the idea of a Baileys Latte troubling and it's much nicer with black coffee

Oh sorry Blush

See i told you....drivel

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 10/07/2018 23:05

Ooh ooh lang lang

I make sloe gin!!!

Gin is flavoured vodka...ive said it before but i feel it bears repeating

BettyDuMonde · 10/07/2018 23:05

Bespin liqueur in prosecco is my overly decadent husband’s thing - I’m quite happy with it as it comes, especially at the moment with the warm sunshine.

I am a terrible lightweight AND a sleepy drunk. Bad combo (although better than being a fighty drunk, my friends assure me).

St Germaine is pretty good though (elderflower flavour).

Herja · 10/07/2018 23:07

A kir royale doesn't have kirsch! It is cassis! And crumble topping should not have oats, but I recommend the addition of ground almonds.

I have read all of this thread. I don't normally post on feminism threads; not because I don't agree with them, but because I suspect some of my life would make me unwelcome or just unwanted on them. I lurk a lot though and this one got to me for some reason.

The more of them I read, the more of my own faults I understand (not this thread so much, just in general). So cheers! Keep posting.

Bespin · 10/07/2018 23:07

St Germaine sounds like a excellent recommendation I do like all things elderflower

HawkeyeInConfusion · 10/07/2018 23:07

Ooh. Sloe gin. Now you're talking.

LangCleg · 10/07/2018 23:08

I make sloe gin!!!

Me too, soul sister!

BettyDuMonde · 10/07/2018 23:08

Herja - thanks for the almonds, please stick around!

Herja · 10/07/2018 23:09

Sloe gin is also good stuck in prosecco. I make it every year as christmas presents, only something seems to happen to it...

UpstartCrow · 10/07/2018 23:09

Flutterby1891
Ok, hands up...I've used the wrong pronouns. However, biological sex just isn't a huge issue for me.

As a woman this probably sounds terrible but two women a week being killed is an utterly vanishing number given how many million there are in the UK. I just don't understand why people get so incredibly overwrought about what is likely to be the actions of reprobates vastly unrepresentative of the average male and likely also linked to drugs/alcohol abuse in many instances.

Seriously, many posters on here would likely be much better focusing on quitting smoking/losing weight if they were truly worried about reality, rather than fretting about a proportionately tiny statistic committed by criminals.

30 women attempt suicide every week as a direct result of domestic violence, and 8 succeed.
2 are murdered, along with an average of 2 children.

The reality is that some of these women have children who survive them, who witness their murder. The care system is underfunded and not fit for purpose.

But yes by all means call out women who get what the issue is and are trying to do something about it.

AngryAttackKittens · 10/07/2018 23:15

Yeah but did you realize that all feminists/Mumsnetters are fat, and that losing some weight do them far more good than not being murdered?

(sigh) You just can't get decent quality trolls these days.

UpstartCrow · 10/07/2018 23:17

Trolls give us the chance to get in some quality statistics, you leave them alone Grin
And those are good stats. They stand up to scrutiny, not like the rubbish ones you see these days.

Yambabe · 10/07/2018 23:17

I make rolo rum. It's much admired amongst my friendship group and doesn't last long when I take it to parties Smile

AngryAttackKittens · 10/07/2018 23:18

A friend made me tea infused vodka, which was quite nice by itself but didn't really go with anything else.
