Any lesbians feeling a tad battered and deflated?

ImmortalityMyDarlings · 09/07/2018 10:08

Or is it just me?

Just read some plonker on Twitter saying that lesbians are just “femininity attracted to femininity”. Makes me sad and angry.

Yes, definitely deflated that lesbianism was hijacked on Saturday

Cadencia · 09/07/2018 10:13

I’m not a lesbian and I hope this isn’t offensive to you. But - at the end of the day - it’s up to you who you are attracted to and no one can force you to be attracted to another person. So if you don’t fancy trans women that’s okay. You don’t have to!

LangCleg · 09/07/2018 10:17

Aaaaand, your first two replies = QED.

NotBadConsidering · 09/07/2018 10:19

Sorry you're feeling this way OP. And sorry you've have two replies already minimising your feelings. Flowers

UpstartCrow · 09/07/2018 10:20

Sexual orientation is a protected characteristic, and the disgusting homophobia we've seen shows why it's needed.

busyboysmum · 09/07/2018 10:20

I'm not a lesbian but I am sorry this is happening to your community.

I will stand by and support you where I can.

bigoldscaredycat · 09/07/2018 10:25

Lesbianism was not hijacked Snappity.

It was reclaimed, from the men who have hijacked it by bullying and brainwashing women into saying that they are women, too.

Tackytriceratops · 09/07/2018 10:29

Feeling deflated and disappointed on your behalf op.

Ignore snappity. They don't have a clue.

Abouttoblow · 09/07/2018 10:32

Snappity must have been staring at the screen, fingers poised over the keyboard all night, waiting to drop that little gem in.

Feel better now Hun?

Melamin · 09/07/2018 10:35

Twitter is full of plonkers.

FelineChapo · 09/07/2018 10:39

Deflated - no. Enlivened - yes.
Those incredibly brave women have started a much needed conversation.
I’m inspired by their actions and will be taking a far more proactive approach in defending women and lesbians from the encroachment. I can feel the spirit of the suffragettes.
I will not yield to men and their desires in any format they choose to present themselves in. And I’m sick of being polite about it.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 09/07/2018 10:40

How can you hijack being a lesbian if you are a lesbian

My dad used to joke that he was a male lesbian (obviously heard it on the telly and thought it was funny ) i reckon he could probably be accused of hijacking lesbianism

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 09/07/2018 10:45

You got to ask yourself who is behaving in a way, to coerce lesbians to have sex with penises?

Just who is pushing this agenda?

Then once you have your answer, it strengthens your resolve and you carry on the fight, against the ones pushing the rapey agenda, the sterilising kids agenda, the lopping off bits of young bodies agenda, the violence against women agenda, the forcing people to chant the manta agenda; and hope that the people in power, with their arms held behind their backs are brave enough to actually say no.

KimCheesePickle · 09/07/2018 11:09

Cadencia - personal preference and consent towards individuals as partners (or otherwise) operates on a totally different level from sexual orientation.

Neoliberal/postmodernist analysis looks through the lens of atomised individuals and their nebulous identities. Materialist analysis looks through the lens of classes of people with something material and collective in common, such as, in the case of lesbians, females and who are attracted to other females.

People do find other people either attractive or not, often somewhat randomly. But it always fits a deeper pattern and context of what that person's sexual orientation is. Gender and sex are completely different things and should be kept separate in law and politics.

^^

FloralBunting · 09/07/2018 11:23

Feelings pass, friend. I went to bed last night feeling appalled that homophobia is in such rude health. I woke this morning, snuggled my dog, saw my kids off to school and experienced a renewed sense of determination to stand with lesbians who are facing this crap.
What's deflated can be reinflated. Flowers

StepBackNow · 09/07/2018 11:40

So sorry, OP. Some people need to take a good hard look at themselves. It isn't clever and it isn't pretty. My lesbian DF is afraid to return to the dating scene because she's been told she needs to accept that pricks can be female.

They can't, everyone knows it but a few loons seem intent on pretending female dicks exist. They don't.

ImmortalityMyDarlings · 09/07/2018 11:44

“What’s deflated can be reinflated”

That made me well up. Thank you. You’re right - Feline too.

I feel even more determined, OP. In hospital at the moment and peaked the woman in the next bed.

The protest at Pride set off something. That's why there's such a massive push back. I'm hoping they set off an avalanche.

I will stand with my lesbian sisters. I will protest the invasion of women's spaces by males, regardless of how they identify.

FermatsTheorem · 09/07/2018 11:55

Hang on in there. I reckon this is exactly the sort of action we need to see.

Because most people in the population are not bisexual (or pan sexual, or whatever). Most are heterosexual or homosexual, i.e., there's one precisely one genital set up out of the two possible ones which turns them on.

And the "lesbians ought to accept lady dick or they're bigots" mantra is the point at which the personal becomes the political. Because the instant a reasonably intelligent person generalises the issue to their own life ("hang on, you're telling me that if I don't want to fellate a penis/go down on a vulva - delete according to which one is a turn off for you - I'm a bigot?"), that's the moment the whole carefully constructed pack of cards comes tumbling down. Because it is the point at which 90% of the population realises that no matter how right on it may be to repeat the mantra "TWAW/TMAM", they don't actually believe it. They know that the slogans aren't true.

Of course it's fine and laudable to campaign for transwomen and transmen to go about their lives free from harrassment, having equal access to employment (barring a tiny handful of jobs where biological sex matters), housing, etc. But most people can't make the step to believing "TWAW/TMAM", because they aren't. And sexual attraction (or lack thereof) brings that home in the most immediate, irrefutable way possible.

That's why it's such a threat to TRAs, but at the same time is a battle they can't possibly win.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 09/07/2018 12:19

Nope, I'm fired up, proud of the women who had the guts to speak out, disgusted with the likes of Stephen Fry and his lazy homophobia because only men matter, and glad of the publicity around it. And this was perfect timing as in conversation currently with my MP and the TRAs have given me a brilliant example of what 'inclusion' is being distorted and bastardised to enable.

BettyDuMonde · 09/07/2018 12:23

HomoSEXual not HomoGENDERal.

Here with my foot pump, reporting for reinflation duty.

Greenday49 · 09/07/2018 12:27

Not just you. I don't and won't do dick. And the agenda these men have is awful.

I've felt deflated for a while. Leave lesbians alone you bunsh of creepy gits.

This thread is a joy. They know how people see them and they are fighting against it but they can't win!
