She seems to be being attacked on Twitter for rejecting 'cis':

twitter.com/AlisonMoyet

Link probably won't work. I'm not on Twitter so not sure how to do the links.

Recanted and now taking a break from twitter

Ok Peeps. I’ve had a reckless time brutally dismantling the ecosystem, and egregiously offending a whole community illiterately.I’ve used up this months twitter tokens.I’m sorry I won’t be here to reply to either kindnesses, bile or reason.
Go well,my beauties.X
#FlyGate #cis

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 06/07/2018 14:23

That doesn't look like recanting to me. That looks like iron fist sarcasm.

StealthNinjaMum · 06/07/2018 14:34

Graham Linehan has been defending Alison but I don't know how to do a Twitter link. Graham's great.

PersonWithAVulva · 06/07/2018 14:39

No, she won't have ever been refused a job or beaten up for being cis. And that is why cis is not a useful political identity, woman is. And we are being told 'cis' is what we must identify as - purely to destroy our unified political identity as women.

Well quite. Its almost as if this ridiculous 'cis' label was made up solely so that men could claim they are more discriminated against than women (and are discriminated against BY women), but saying that women oppress men sounds silly to everyone, so lets create 'cis' to stick onto women, then ignore the fact that they are actually women! Again, kind of similar to MRAs and their 'I am so persecuted as a white straight man', 'women have it so good compared to little old me' rubbish.

Popchyk · 06/07/2018 14:53

Stealth, Graham Linehan here:

twitter.com/Glinner/status/1015178920679927809

"Shut down individual opinions, especially from women. Make sure other women notice so they’re afraid to speak up. Then claim “everyone agrees!”

"It is the oldest story in the book. Misogyny. Pure and simple."

BettyDuMonde · 06/07/2018 14:55

That’s not an apology, that’s a ‘there is no way of reconciling this, so kindly piss off’

I’ve not looked at twitter itself yet today but I am sad/furious at the reports of her being bullied in the early hours (US based posters whose time zone is behind hours, presumably).

However, that said, Alison’s timeline is a bit like posting here. Everything that is written is read by more eyes than those participating. Her longstanding position as both ally and icon for many British gays will have contributed to a whole heap of people (from beyond the GC feminist sphere) being exposed to TRA tactics.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 06/07/2018 14:55

stealth
Is this the one you meant?

enoughisenough12 · 06/07/2018 15:15

Such a great singer and a good ethical woman.
As usual TRAs demonstrate just how oppressive they are towards women - any woman!

StealthNinjaMum · 06/07/2018 16:28

Thank you popchyk and waddle

If you look at Graham's twitter page mobile.twitter.com/Glinner

We have lots of tweets including

Also, the smug stuff I get from my countrymen on this. "We have self ID and there's no problem here!" Really? Are you in a shelter? Are you in a prison? Are you vulnerable? I'm sorry, but you have NO IDEA what effect it's having because you're in a comfortable middle-class bubble

and Stop Jumping Down the Throat of women trying to discuss it

What I don't know how to do is screenshots that have where people attack him.

Not that it really matters - I think we can all imagine the abuse he gets without seeing it!

Anlaf · 06/07/2018 16:54

Well, I meant recant in the sense of "saying you don't hold heretical views so you don't get burned at the stake (or modern twitter equivalent)" rather than "now is fully onboard with the non-heretical views"

Glinner appears on this podcast and talks about the trans issue - he was recovering from surgery and someone told him (off the back of his tweeting on this) that they hoped he'd die in the next operation.

It's good to hear GC views espoused by the menfellows:

boatyardblues · 06/07/2018 17:16

I’m not sure why, but the TRAs going after Alison has really annoyed me.

MizCracker · 06/07/2018 17:23

🙌

Alison Moyet - yay (I think)
BettyDuMonde · 06/07/2018 17:26

Boatyard, me too!

But I know why, it’s because she has spent her adult lifetime being criticised for being a gender non woman who has always spoken up for LGBT people, before it was legal to be gay, and in an era when gay men were dying of AIDS and being vilified rather than supported.

It makes me want to stamp my feet and shout ‘Do you not know WHO SHE IS?’

AsAProfessionalFekko · 06/07/2018 17:31

My money is on Alf.

boatyardblues · 06/07/2018 17:42

I remembered. Alison’s music got me through some really dark times. There's an honesty and emotional vulnerability about her lyrics which reached me through that darkness & let me know I wasn’t alone. I think she’s fearless and brave with the career choices she’s made - she’s never been boxed in by any genre and takes risks. I’ve seen her live and she is the real thing, a hugely talented writer and performer. She’s accomplished everything with her characteristic decency, humility and humanity. She is exactly the kind of person the world needs more of.

To the numpties doing her down: FUCK YOU!!! And then FUCK YOU SOME MORE!!!

Sarahconnor1 · 06/07/2018 18:12

God that pile on is depressing just goes to prove that with the TRA unless you capitulate entirely it's not enoug There is a huge difference between the transsexuals of old and the current TRA ideology.

Alison has been such an ally in the past.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 06/07/2018 20:06

'It makes me want to stamp my feet and shout ‘Do you not know WHO SHE IS?’'

They almost certainly don't. Being well informed is seldom a characteristic of Twitter TRA bullies. I have been struck by the fact that none of the pilers on claiming cis just means not trans seem to have read Julia Serano.

SardinesAreYum · 06/07/2018 20:35

So the idea is that cunty women are not allowed to not identify as cis (unless they are trans men but really they don't seem to get much airtime).

I thought the whole point was that we can define ourselves according to however we feel inside?

Or, is it that some sorts of people with dicks are allowed to do that, while other sorts of people with cunts are defined as whatever the former group says they are.

Yes we've never been here before have we. What with it being the entire way that oppressive gender role is enacted.

pearlkent · 07/07/2018 00:27

Ahh, just watched Alison on a BBC Four programme from the 1980s, and it made me really sad about where we are now. Lots of other "gender non-conforming" people on there too (Adam Ant, Phil Oakey etc) - no fuss, no labels, all good clean fun. Sad for the youth of today.

OP posts:
FloralBunting · 07/07/2018 00:29

pearlkent I thought exactly the same. My son was mesmerized by Phil Oakey's blusher and eyeliner.

pearlkent · 07/07/2018 00:42

Floral These sort of programmes should be compulsory viewing for the youth of today. Honestly it all made me really sad for them. Coming of age in the 1980s was so liberating. What has gone wrong?

OP posts:
FloralBunting · 07/07/2018 00:57

I put it down in part to the perennial "We're the generation that discovered sex etc." fallacy - they honestly believe no one had ever thought of any of this stuff before.
I have a certain amount of cache among my kid's church-going friends, who introduce me as 'This is Mum. Mum's done everything. Even girls'. So when I talk about the existence of baby butch and New Romantics, men in eyeliner and women power dressing, I feel a bit like a wise old woman of the village, regaling them with tales from the old country, when no one actually gave a crap about your 'gender identity' and being young was all about trying new things out because you could.

Yambabe · 07/07/2018 00:58

I sort of said that on one of SandyDrawsBadly's feeds this week.....

twitter.com/Yambabe64/status/1014118761270595584

(this may out me. I don't care)

FloralBunting · 07/07/2018 01:10

God yes. I'm stunned that a straight couple think they can just jump into the rainbow by swapping clothes and it's so solidarity.
Dear lord the superficiality is like cheap gilding.

Yambabe · 07/07/2018 01:17

I got to be "cool mum" too Floral, but that was cos I used to pick DS up from school on my motorbike Grin
