These drugs are not harmless

Apart from all the times they are given to other children who are not trans for other conditions in relation to pubity then are they OK

bespin - these drugs are powerful, irreversible and have effects on multiple system. Including 8-10 IQ point loss, cognitive damage, osteoporosis, joint problems, metabolic issues, endocrine issues.

That’s just the ones we know about, because nobody is overseeing this from an ethics/medical point of view.

These drugs also put a child on a psychologically irreversible path - they are far less likely to feel they can stop once any treatment starts.

This is going to be a huge scandal. The bbc are actively promoting harmful and inaccurate medical advice.

M by proxy?

R0wantrees · 02/07/2018 10:04

Interesting segway to news of delevopments on artificial ovaries for women affected by gyny cancer....

anotherpersona · 02/07/2018 10:05

@floorplan You can still reply on @vicderbyshire

AnOpinion · 02/07/2018 10:19

Safeguarding complaint lodged with the BBC, they are promoting factually incorrect information surrounding drugs and an ideology in a biased fashion.

FloralBunting · 02/07/2018 10:19

I've tweeted the programme. I am appalled at the uncritical stance taken to the news of how many kids are put on blockers. There is absolutely no addressing of any kind of negative aspect of these drugs. It's all complete fluff.
And all the young women on the show presenting as trans and non binary - their sex is still very evident.

Wanderabout · 02/07/2018 10:24

Is it possible to watch again? Missed it.

FloralBunting · 02/07/2018 10:28

Repeated references from the young people to 'punishment' of those who do things they don't like.
Oh, finally addressing the actual blockers aspect...

R0wantrees · 02/07/2018 10:32

Highlighting need for punishment due to misgendering/ mis pronouning.

Highlighting waiting lists for Tavistock.

Highlighting deadnaming 'its literally a hate crime and you can be punished for that'

cf LM comment:
(extract)
"A line was crossed when she used my previous name. I had a recurrent pain in my heart and promptly left at that point to be sick. Very little destroys me like people using my deadname (former name). I decided in the toilet that I wasn’t to spend another minute with that woman. It was a idealistic idea to meet with her but I’d genuinely thought I could show Alice where she was wrong and perhaps provide some insight into how much happier I am recently. I’d hoped we could learn something about each other and move forwards positively. Unfortunately, I truly think this person believed what she was saying.

Conversion therapy is widely condemned but evidently it’s still out there. People like Alice may not be offering their services openly anymore but by word of mouth, through letters or organisations. It’s important we don’t deny that this kind of thing is still happening"

Absolutely bollocks, straw men arguments that the GC position is about trans is a phase.
No, be who you want to be, FFS, just learn to love and not hate your body.
Repeated stuff about the non binaries and transboys not liking dresses and make up. Except when they do, because clothes aren't gendered. The mixed up thinking is just so sad.

FloralBunting · 02/07/2018 10:36

I'm developing a real dislike of the word 'like'.

R0wantrees · 02/07/2018 10:39

I ask the YP in my life 'is it like the thing your describing or is it the thing- just wanting to check?' a couple of my nephews now smile and rephrase.

R0wantrees · 02/07/2018 10:39

'you're' obvs! LOL

FloralBunting · 02/07/2018 10:45

I found the exchanges between the VC and the girls who are non binary fascinating. Especially the one who 'discovered' she was non binary after her sibling came out as trans. She talked about what might happen if she got dysphoria when her body gets more female, because she doesn't see herself as male or female. I can't remember the word she used, but she said she would consider blockers and making changes to her body.
And the other non binary girl, who said that she sometimes wears dresses and skirts and she likes glitter etc, but that doesn't make her female. Really exposing the tropes they have been fed.

Why are none of these entities concerned about future class action lawsuits? That's what I don't understand. Claims in the billions could arise from promoting this course of pharmaceutical action. It will be like big tobacco and the Savile inquiry rolled into one.

I'm not in a legal field but spent enough years as a journo and editor to be unbelievably cautious about how I allowed this subject to be reported. I don't understand how these mechanisms in journalism have been circumvented. Has no one passed this issue through BBC legal?

Bowlofbabelfish · 02/07/2018 10:50

Quote from the BBC website

Medical interventionYoung people who are distressed because their bodies are developing during puberty can be given treatment to stop these changes. The relief this provides helps them to make better judgements about how they want to live their lives as adults. If they wish, they can stop taking the medication at any time. It is safe, and its effects are reversible.

busyboysmum · 02/07/2018 10:51

I'm getting to the point with this that I'm just interested in guarding my kids against the madness. It's bonkers. The BBC should be ashamed of the biased way it's promoting this bodily abuse for no reason.

Two excellent tweets on this hashtag

FloralBunting · 02/07/2018 10:56

Excellent tweets. No challenges presented, every question phrased to blur out any of the genuine safety issues or concerns people might have for any of this, young people encouraged to waffle aimlessly about 'haters' and 'trolls'.
I am astonished that the people involved seriously think they are doing a wholly good thing.

Pratchet · 02/07/2018 10:58

Or think that this is what journalists do. Extraordinary.

Bespin · 02/07/2018 11:06

Better tell the lancet too about its bias reporting

Pratchet · 02/07/2018 11:08

Bespin: why do you want to medicalise child gender non-conformity and DE-medicalise adult gender non-conformity?

Pratchet · 02/07/2018 11:09

I don't think anyone takes these 'authorities' seriously any more. The grooming is obvious.

busyboysmum · 02/07/2018 11:09

The blasé way the mum said oh I don't worry about side effects because otherwise the child would commit suicide. Really? You don't know that at all. You've been brainwashed.

Bowlofbabelfish · 02/07/2018 11:14

bespin

Why are children being pushed down the medical route while adults are campaigning for total demedicalisation?
