Congratulations on a healthy baby! Hope the birth went safely and that you are recovering well.

I just hate surrogacy in case you can't tell

They don't want to answer who the mother is because they either have to do the mental gymnastics of pretending a woman who carried and gave birth to a baby isn't its mother which stretches credibility, or state that this baby doesn't have a mother which is quite upsetting.

Ova Flowers
Broad Flowers

Do the people that think commercial surrogacy is ok also think buying organs is ok? At least that would make you consistent on one side of it but it still doesnt address the rights of the child.

Humans should not be for sale. Ever.

downinthejunglee · 01/07/2018 23:29

Some people really need to take the sticks out of their arses

MakeItStopNeville · 01/07/2018 23:35

I'm literally reading this thread with my mouth open. This is so weird. It's none of our business! You think because they didn't make a gushing, "Here is the Mum who made our dreams come true!" post, they don't feel that?!!

One of my closest friends had surrogates so that he and his husband could have children. I met the surrogates and nobody at all was uncomfortable with the situation. In fact, the only uncomfortable thing the now 15 year old daughter finds is that people keep banging on about her mother. As far as she's concerned, families come in all shapes and sizes and she's perfectly happy with hers. And so is the woman who gave birth to her (who wasn't her biological mother).

Ultimately, the US and the UK are very different societies so putting UK ideals on US process doesn't work. Comparing it to India is just plain stupid.

Some people are burdened with ethics. Some are not.

Your mouth is literally open that women on a feminist board have issues with the ethics and potential for exploitation of commercial surrogacy? You must be easily shocked.

SisyphusWasGenderCritical · 01/07/2018 23:40

Those fucking ethics

Floorplan · 01/07/2018 23:41

Back tomorrow to deal with this bulls hit from mine craft

SisyphusWasGenderCritical · 01/07/2018 23:45

Although. If we are really doing ethics, the ethics of a fetus being a bag of cells needs to be addressed too, if Tom Daley is such a cunt

Motherwell91 · 01/07/2018 23:45

Surely if you all feel the woman has a right to do as she wants why are you jouding her opinion. I would assume she doesbt wish to be named.? Why does it bother anyone

53rdWay · 01/07/2018 23:45

Comparing it to India is just plain stupid.

Why? Is putting ‘UK ideals’ on India okay, or aren’t we allowed to be against commercial surrogacy anywhere?

53rdWay · 01/07/2018 23:46

Nobody’s asked for her to be named, Motherwell...

53rdWay · 01/07/2018 23:48

(and no I don’t think you should have a right to do anything you want. I don’t think you should have the right to sell your organs or sell yourself into slavery either.)

Ereshkigal · 02/07/2018 00:00

I'm not sure gariguette will be back. Perhaps he realised he's overplayed his hand.

Yep.

AngryAttackKittens · 02/07/2018 00:15

Just a teensy bit!

HemanOrSheRa · 02/07/2018 01:02

Thanks for your concern. I don't know what did it. Maybe it was being raped by a woman when I was 18. Maybe it was the daily sexual harassment from my 20 stone female boss in my first job out of university. Maybe it was my emotionally abusive mother. Maybe it was the female friend conning me out of £25k last year. Maybe it was the female friend I helped get a promotion at work who then tried to get me fired so she could have my job. Maybe it's the general level of entitled, aggressive bitchiness that now passes for feminism in the UK. I just don't know what has made me less and less sympathetic towards women as I get older.

Hmmmm. I Just don't know what has made me less and less sympathetic towards men as I get older. Funny that.

MakeItStopNeville · 02/07/2018 01:16

"Some people are burdened with ethics. Some are not"

That is literally the most patronising, self serving comment I've read on here in a long time. Pat yourself on the back.

Bullshit! There are lots worse right here in this thread.

MakeItStopNeville · 02/07/2018 01:30

Also, Tom Daley hasn't yet taken American citizenship, so he can't adopt children from here in the first place. And neither has his husband taken UK citizenship. Not every family fits in some neat, tick checking box.

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 02/07/2018 01:53

Lots of people say they are just fine with everything but are terribly unhappy on the inside.

It is really annoying for people to say 'the kid is fine with it'. What makes them so bloody sure the kid trusts them enough to share their deepest feelings?

crunchymint · 02/07/2018 02:17

I don't know a lot about adoption, but I know when a friend who is adopted decided to look for his birth parents he did not tell his adoptive parents as he did not want to hurt their feelings. There must be others who do this. When we love the people who bring us up, we don't want to hurt them unnecessarily. And this applies to children as well. So I suspect it is hard for those bringing up kids born from a mother who has been paid, to really know how their kids feel about that.

MakeItStopNeville · 02/07/2018 03:20

Because I’ve spent many, many, many hours with said children and they ARE happy with it. So I’m going to go with that over the angst of a probably slightly drunk at this point of the night Mumsnetter.

MistressDeeCee · 02/07/2018 03:29

I agree entirely.

I hate this "me me me I can have it all" society.

I wonder if this child will seek his/her mother later in life, and whether info about her will be blocked? Will his/her wishes even matter in the face of entitled adults' wishes and needs?

All of this is just a shit storm waiting to happen.

CosmicCanary · 02/07/2018 06:08

Makeitstop

How bloody rude of you to accuse Where of being drunk!

You are too much of a coward to even do it properly and use the strike through instead. Pathatetic.
