Statement on trans inclusion in a tweet from Diva, the UK's biggest lesbian magazine.
I'm pleased they've made their position clear, and support it.

FermatsTheorem They were lovely to be fair. Let me explain about what Natluc had said about entitlement and all that. NOOO said the Police, safeguarding first. Natluc is in for a shock when more parents/grandparents learn their rights.

OlennasWimple · 26/06/2018 23:53

Personally I find it amusing how many transwomen who claim to be lesbians are in a relationship with a bisexual woman, and use this as proof that they are indeed lesbian because look! Here is my very female girlfriend! Leaving aside the fact that their girlfriend is not a lesbian, but bi, and it ain't the same thing at all, particularly when it comes to lady
dick

FermatsTheorem · 27/06/2018 00:02

I have to admit it puzzles me Oleanna. I'm a straight woman. This means I don't do vulvas (well, other than my own when flying solo, as t'were). That's pretty much the definition of my sexuality. So I can't see what's so contentious about lesbians saying that, in virtue of them being lesbians, they don't do dick.

The Gender Recognition Act. Trans women with a GRC are legally women and able to use female single sex facilities. If a trans woman has a GRC you could not kick her out of a changing room if you tried, no matter how uncomfortable she made you feel

This looks like relish, or gloating to me. It's terrible that a person so callous towards women's feelings would be able to use a female intimate space. I'm freshly shocked every day.

I also ignored this thread and now I've missed out. Must read on, but some things just jump out.

ImpYCelyn · 27/06/2018 06:56

Lang I think they get the balance right between serious articles, useful reviews, and just for fun. Genuinely useful resource for young lesbians/bi wonen too, lots of good articles for those starting out. They published a great article about Hannah Gadsby’s show too.

Hannah Gadsby

ImpYCelyn · 27/06/2018 07:02

boopsy I think, perhaps, just maybe, could be, that they’re also not that into ladydick. Cos they’re lesbians, innit 😂😂

“Smell that? You smell that? Hypocrisy, sister. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning.”

^I may not have had enough sleep, and too much caffeine...

AngryAttackKittens · 27/06/2018 07:03

It's pretty much a raised middle finger, isn't it, Pratchet?

When someone deliberately addresses women that way they're telling us who they are, and we should believe them.

On another note, I happily do both penises and vulvas, as it were, and even so I can understand that most people only do one of the two, so I'm not sure why that's so hard for other people to wrap their heads around, especially if they only do one of the two themselves. One might almost suspect that a certain level of selfishness is in evidence.

iamawoman · 27/06/2018 07:15

Kittens Yes - not many middle aged translady lesbians seem to date men!!

iamawoman · 27/06/2018 07:16

Or each other...

GorgonLondon · 27/06/2018 07:28

'gloating' and 'entitlement' are absolutely right to describe that attitude as expressed in those posts.

I'd also add 'narcissistic', 'bullying' and 'threatening', if they haven't been used already.

ImpYCelyn · 27/06/2018 07:35

AAK yes, agree with this. Because I not only get it, it’s been my biggest argument against the whole thing. But I’ve seen several lesbian commentators saying that they’ve been most attacked by bisexual women on this, and that they think it’s literally impossible for bi women to understand why some people are monosexual. Which makes me really angry with the bi women who are acting like twats and giving the rest of us a bad reputation. And I do wonder if it’s a petty revenge by some bisexual women, because they’ve been turned down by lesbians. Because I’m not convinced that many of them would actually say yes to a . And this gives me the rage. Yes, I’ve had a little private whinge once or twice, (and a little cry), after being told by a lesbian that they don’t date bi women, but I have never, and would never, suggest that they have any obligation to date/sleep with bi women, and we’re actually women. They can turn down whoever they want, for whatever reason, and they don’t owe anyone an explanation even if that sucks for you personally.

I might have no objection to penises, but if I’ve gone home with a female it’s because I want to have sex with someone with a vulva. If I want to date a woman, it’s that I want to date a woman. Also, I went on a date with someone who identified as trans once, they bored on and on about trans issues, long after I’d got the point. Every question was answered through the lens of their trans-ness. It was dull. Put me right off...

AngryAttackKittens · 27/06/2018 07:46

I'm thoroughly embarrassed by the behavior of bisexual women as a group in relation to this issue, honestly. Dear sisters - please stop bullying lesbians. It's making them miserable and making us look like giant flaming arseholes. People are allowed to have absolutely no sexual interest in male bodies.

Also, I like penises, I like vulvas, and I like breasts, but I like them in their traditional combinations. Penis and breasts on the same body? Does nothing for me sexually speaking. That also is a perfectly acceptable and in fact rather common way for human sexuality to manifest (especially in women - there seem to be plenty of men with very different interests in that regard).

Ereshkigal · 27/06/2018 08:58

Why don’t trans women date each other then, after all they keep insisting they are actual women? Or could it be that they don’t believe that deep down either?..

I've heard some say that it "triggers their dysphoria". So basically they are allowed "genital preferences" as Riley would say, but no one else is.

Iseveryusernamealreadytaken · 27/06/2018 09:27

I haven't RTFT but not all the bisexuals are actually bisexual. I saw a thread a couple of days ago (not on here) where trans people and their allies were talking about whether you should have to reveal to someone you were going to have sex with that you have different genitals from what they might expect. One woman broke ranks to say yes because she is a bisexual woman who is not attracted to people who have vaginas and would not have sex with someone who had a vagina.

That's the first time I've seen someone openly state that but it seems true of a lot of the bi/queer/pan people in that movement. They lecture lesbians on how closed minded we are for not being open to relationships with everyone (ie men) and say that they date men, women and everyone in between but when you look at who they actually date, it is only people who are anatomically male (however they identify).

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 27/06/2018 09:32

Oh good lord

FireFartingDuck · 27/06/2018 09:46

What the heck? They're bisexual, but only sleep with penises? I know Humpty Dumpty gets wheeled out a lot with all this gubbins, but words mean things.

It's the epitome of what has gone wrong with the admirable LGB movement. It's become so damned trendy that people are helping themselves to the 'cool' labels and all the rainbow gear and claiming oppression they don't actually face.

LangCleg · 27/06/2018 10:07

I hope it isn't strike-worthy to say PMSL.

PMSL!

What on earth is going through people's minds?

TimeLady · 27/06/2018 10:44

Oh, natluc. Presumably you understood why it was unacceptable for you to share a changing room with very young girls before you started taking hormones? You may well be presenting differently in terms of hair, clothes and makeup now, but nothing else has really changed, has it?

You pose the same potential threat as you did before, the same as any male-bodied man in that situation, benevolent or not. I'm actually quite taken aback that you can't see that, as you strike me as one of the genuine trans posters, and a nice kind one at that.

BeyondFemaleElitist · 27/06/2018 11:00

Oh for actual fucks sake 🙄

ImpYCelyn · 27/06/2018 11:40

Also PMSL.

But it has been an issue for a while that some women identify as bisexual who aren’t at all. They just want to kiss a girl, or “find them beautiful”. They’re better described as bicurious. Which is fine, but a different thing, and not a sexuality.

It’s probably bigoted, but someone who identifies as queer I wouldn’t even give the time of day to. Surprisingly often they’re straight people appropriating a label to be cool.

I think some of this has come about because about 5 years ago there were starting to be muttering by some that being bisexual was transphobic. Pansexual was the way to go. And I think a reasonable number of young, earnest bisexuals re-identified. Freeing up space for “new” bisexuals i.e. women dating men who identify as women, but who have male bits. And it’s looking a bit too late to reclaim it. Arielle Scarcella had a video asking bi women to explain what it meant to them and it was a lot of “all genders”, “two is my gender, and other genders”.

Noqont · 27/06/2018 11:53

🤔

Pratchet · 27/06/2018 12:01

Amen to that
Can you imagine how dull

Pratchet · 27/06/2018 12:03

Things like ally Mcbeal would mention this sort of thing. Bits of dialogue like 'so my husband woke me up this morning right in the middle of my favourite lesbian fantasy dream'

It was very nineties

pachyderm · 27/06/2018 12:28

Pratchet yes! I remember the trendy bisexual thing in the 90s. It was a bit silly but it was quite freeing, I remember a bit of experimentation going on (also the influence of E which would make you get off with ANYBODY Smile ). I had one or two experiences with women but I wouldn't dream of calling myself bisexual; it would seem like encroaching on territory that wasn't mine. And queer, wtf.. that seems to mean absolutely nothing now. I can't get over the cheek of straight women calling themselves queer, with no right whatsoever to the word.
