Is this part of the elaborate code that readers need to crack before glancing through a newspaper in 2018? 'Women in dresses' = journalist speak for men.

Oh that actually is funny!

Maybe that is the code from here on in?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 26/06/2018 14:18

So when GAP advertises ‘Women’s Dress Sale’ they aren’t actually...

TinyRick · 26/06/2018 14:19

You can tell from the headline that the reporter knows that some, if not all, are trans.

Why else the emphasis on what they were wearing?

slashlover · 26/06/2018 14:20

While I agree they should have been called transwomen, I find the whole "Maybe he misgendered them, hehe" thing disgraceful.

I do not agree with the attack but transpeople are more likely to be the victims of violence or sexual assault so we have no way of knowing what happened before the attack.

SisyphusWasGenderCritical · 26/06/2018 14:20

That's why MNHQ is shutting us all up. Noone is allowed to say that men in dresses are men in dresses, even when they are kicking the shit out of other men. Them's women and we are unkind bitches to say otherwise

TinyRick · 26/06/2018 14:20

Took too long typing and crossposted with others Blush

IdaDown · 26/06/2018 14:21

”... wake up and smell the testosterone...”

A pithy yet apt comment left on the LBC page.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 26/06/2018 14:21

You've been gaslit. They are actually less likely to be attacked in the UK than anyone.

FloralCup · 26/06/2018 14:21

If journalists aren't allowed to say transwomen or man why can't they just leave sex out of it altogether. "A group wearing dresses attacked...." "The person, dressed in feminine clothing,..." Etc.
Police, when giving details of the suspect they are looking for and can't state sex, could state factual details "a person with typical masculine facial features and body build - dressed as in a feminine way..."

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 26/06/2018 14:24

Yesterday I finally got a reply to my request sent some months ago to my local police commissioner re recording crime by sex or gender. Not had time to read all the policy links in the reply yet but from the email it seems clear that they are recorded in the ‘gender ‘ the person identifies as, even if they seem to present as the opposite ‘gender ‘.

LighthouseSouth · 26/06/2018 14:24

@slashlover "we have no way of knowing what happened before the attack"

same is true of all such incidents, we don't know what happened before the filmed part.

but that doesn't change how accurate reporting and data gathering should work.

sundaynamechange1 · 26/06/2018 14:24

slashlover are you saying trans women get more sexually assaulted then natel women ?

The comments on lbc.co.uk are becoming more reality based.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 26/06/2018 14:27

That arguement does go around but when you start delving into circumstances (sex workers, situation, relationship of attacker and victim etc) then you can see rates are not cut and dried.

Besides, my money would be on the one in the string vest. Very ‘handy’ in a confrontation.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 26/06/2018 14:29

I can see the LBC comments now. I’m guessing they will be deleted?

Southfields · 26/06/2018 14:29

Are you not all really gratified by the comments below?

Norther · 26/06/2018 14:29

I thought madame jojos closed down. A friend of mine used to go and they said it closed. The thing is with it being leicester square they could just as easily be drag queens. It just shows how nonsensical the whole thing is. Ironically you could identify actual females in the video by their normal clothing and yet this push to define women by clothing 99 percent of us don't wear!

AsAProfessionalFekko · 26/06/2018 14:30

Gratified implies gloating.

AbsintheFriends · 26/06/2018 14:31

Perhaps journalists could make the code slightly easier to break by adding a winky-face emoji after 'women in dresses'. For the blissfully unaware who can't quite fathom the disconnect between words and pictures.

Norther · 26/06/2018 14:31

In fact there are so many now, there are probably more biological males wearing stilettoes than biological females!

LighthouseSouth · 26/06/2018 14:31

Floral "If journalists aren't allowed to say transwomen or man why can't they just leave sex out of it altogether."

probably too close to complaint territory.

Melamin · 26/06/2018 14:31

19 year olds can be idiots but those in their 20s should have gained enough maturity to deal with it without stamping on the 19 year old's head, en masse.

FloralBunting · 26/06/2018 14:31

'we have no way of knowing what happened before the attack'

Do we need to? A group of burly blokes in dresses are stomping the shit out of a man who is lying prone on the floor. Is there actually any scenario in which this male-pattern violence would be remotely justified?

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/06/2018 14:32

Just look how in danger and oppressed they are Hmm

LighthouseSouth · 26/06/2018 14:32

Norther "The thing is with it being leicester square they could just as easily be drag queens"

if they were questioned they will have been asked how they identify though, won't they? I really don't think that 999 alerts and reporters took it upon themselves to assume. If anyone here knows for sure, I'm happy to be corrected.
