Morning!

OP posts:
thebewilderness · 26/06/2018 19:09

That explains why the same MRA trolls keep showing up over and over.

thebewilderness · 26/06/2018 19:15

Anyone know what thread I was deleted from? I was a bit cheek flamed last night with so very much H8 filled misogyny gushing from every direction.

Southfields · 26/06/2018 19:17

Still here (just).

I've been asking if its ok for me to tell people about the alternative groups that have been set up as safety nets for MNetters who get banned.

Southfields · 26/06/2018 19:23

Uh oh. Just got my 2nd deletion and I only joined 2 weeks ago.

Does anyone remember this thread they mention? I guess I cannot repeat the title, or can I? When I posted the OP I walked on eggshells, petrified to put a foot wrong. And yet still it was deleted .

I honestly do not understand the guidelines! There is nothing that says we can't use the phrase pek-trnsed and yet that's what they've done me for!

Does 2 deletions mean 2 strikes?

If so, I am toast!

How come the goady trolls never get deleted/banned?

loveyouradvice · 26/06/2018 20:00

southfields I am so sorry to hear this - I thought your thread about an MPs secretary was so pertinent and interesting - with some great follow-through. Amazes me that it was deleted in toto - It did NOT feel controversial. Can you appeal?

I'm feeling very shell-shocked at the moment having just watched the LBC video of "women" viciously attacking a man... I didn't think I was quite so vulnerable, but it has left me shaking, watching the level of unremitting viciousness all aimed at a man on the ground, who was clearly hurt and wasn't moving .... and then realised that people will be tut-tutting about how women are getting more like men in their violence.... LBC is after all a radio show, rather than television so few will have seen what we are seeing on this thread

SuperDandy · 26/06/2018 20:02

"That is useful, thank you Hebe. Though clarification a bit earlier would have been nice" and "More amendments - how unusual"

To be fair to MNHQ, they said right from the first statement that's three strikes would lead to suspension, followed by considering the case for reinstating. It's right there on the link Hebe included.

"How come the goady trolls never get deleted/banned?"

I guess this depends on which posts you include as goady troll posts. There have certainly been deletions of trolls and PBPs on these boards recently, but maybe you just didn't see them. Or maybe some of the posts you consider goady and trolly are actually within guidelines? Presumably you report the posts you have concerns about, and MNHQ feedback to you or you can check back.

ImpYCelyn · 26/06/2018 22:43

Southfields I’m not sure what was wrong with that thread. I thought it was carefully phrased.

LaSqrrl · 27/06/2018 09:39

It's the "three strikes in six weeks" that is the issue. The average poster on FWR cannot survive that. Three strikes in one week would be hard enough.

BeyondFemaleElitist · 27/06/2018 11:04

Six weeks is a very random arbitrary amount of time, isn't it. I probably would have gone with a month, if I was setting rules...

BesmirchingMotherhood · 27/06/2018 12:27

It’s how long re-education in Newspeak and Doublethink takes beyond.

2BthatUnnoticed · 12/09/2019 08:46

Hope it’s okay to bump this thread, I found a clarifying moderator’s post which I thought others might find useful.

We lost a great poster recently, who was firmly not GC but who cared about women and made excellent points.

I’m finding it all a bit bewildering. I know a chat site is a commercial enterprise, not a community service.

But I was thinking, what if (at the time of deleting a comment) a moderator briefly posted to say “getting too heated” or “you’re misgendering by implication” or “let’s be more civil” or whatever, so everyone in the thread knows what’s happening.

Then if you saw a poster getting goaded and starting to lose it, you could say “careful!!” And maybe people would get deleted and banned less often?

I’ve seen posters deleted and honestly not known why, I know culturally it’s frowned upon for women to be angry but shouldn’t that be challenged here?

Any way my question really was - how many people on this thread are still here?

Datun · 12/09/2019 09:07

Worth clarifying.

26/06/2018 16:58 HebeMumsnet

As it says in Justine's statement we're talking about only a temporary suspension here in the first instance, not a three-strikes-and-you're-banned-for-good scenario.

The guidelines also state:

We’ll also be taking a dim view of the continual and persistent reporting of posts that don’t break our guidelines, as each of these need to be investigated, which is a huge waste of the mod team's time and energy. Anyone who repeatedly reports similar types of posts that aren’t worthy of deletion – ie simply to be vexatious – will be suspended.

It would be useful to know how often one is reported and for what, so you can challenge it under this guideline.

Joisanofthedales · 12/09/2019 09:30

I only post now and again, partly because I'm worried about saying something the wrong way and getting kicked off and partly because so many other posters write with more clarity than I could.
I'm very sorry that women like Lass are walking away. I found her posts mostly infuriating and then she'd write something really insightful and thought provoking that made me have to reconsider my ideas, so she'll be missed.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 12/09/2019 09:31

It does feel like the modding has gone even further sideways since last year. The ‘rules’ are enforced inconsistently and with little or no communication, and summary bannings do happen, which evidently wasn’t the original intention going by Hebe’s post above.

I know that the management of the moderation team has changed and wonder if that’s related. Do the the team now have different objectives for the kind of community and atmosphere they’re trying to foster through their moderation?

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 12/09/2019 09:35

If you are a community disrupter with multiple accounts, I can’t imagine that the risk of suspension for unnecessary reporting would be much of a concern.

Therefore the only people affected by the guidelines are the women trying to have a discussion.

Women, control yourselves.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 12/09/2019 09:43

LassofFyvie? Oh, no! I really valued her posts. Disagreed on almost everything. Hope she comes back.

Floisme · 12/09/2019 09:50

Still here and I thought this experience might be worth sharing (also put it on Bunbury). On the skirt thread two of my comments were highlighted in quick succession. There was nothing remarkable about them and other posters had made the same or similar points. The second time it happened the challenge was far more forceful and I was asked a question. I was about to fire off a response but something felt a bit off so I stepped away.

I’m a fairly regular poster but not a big hitter on here. Just putting it out there in case it’s useful.

FannyCann · 12/09/2019 09:54

I've noticed the absence of a lot of regular posters, whether they are taking a break or it has been enforced I don't know.
Lass, Rowan and FloralBunting - I don't think any of them have been banned but have walked away?
I wonder if they have deleted their accounts or just not here any more as I was wondering whether to pm Lass about something.

FannyCann · 12/09/2019 09:57

In fact scrolling through from the start of the thread there are a lot of names that are no longer here, though I expect some people have name changed, as I have since then.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 12/09/2019 09:57

It feels like MNHQ may be enabling some very controlling behaviour by not considering fully how their modding decisions affect good faith posters, and taking the easy route of routinely complying with the demands of some very controlling people

2BthatUnnoticed · 12/09/2019 10:24

FloralBunting left a while back and Lass just yesterday.

I think it could be hard for some moderators. To me, the s/afe/g/ua/rdi/ng issues in male-born persons ID-ing as women, and requiring women to accept them as women, are obvious. {Refer: 16 working class women in BC who had their lives turned upside down, et al}

But for people who truly believe TWAW, there is no safeguarding issue. We are being mean for no reason.

2BthatUnnoticed · 12/09/2019 10:31

Floisme yes I saw that two. You did well to walk away. I think Lass might have been deleted for saying “Sweetie”.. it was a painful thread.

BiologyIsReal · 12/09/2019 10:38

Bloody hell. Take my eye off MN for a nano second, come back to find the excreta has hit the ventilation system.

What is going on? Can anyone briefly enlighten me? Ta everso.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/09/2019 10:44

The 'sweetie' post was still there, I think, don't know what the deletion was. I suppose it's possible that she - unusually - slipped over the line into something that could be interpreted as a PA by a keen 'monitor'.
