Well MNHQ we have the start of the exodus. Posters leaving due to these new guidelines that throw women under the bus.

A poster has deleted their account today due to the upset and stress of getting a strike for saying something that is 100% true. We know it's true because TRA's posted it on Twitter themselves, yet we post it and it's kick off time at HQ

It's a fucking disgrace HQ WOMEN are your target audience yet you don't give a fucking shiny shit about us. Not a fucking shit and it stinks.

More and more women will leave and you will be left with nothing more than people who present as opposite to their birth sex sitting posting about heels, make-up, clothes and fucking knitting.

Good luck with that one.

If you get deleted could you ensure you record what you said and send your quote to some one at the other place, we need a record of what women are saying which is now deemed unacceptable.

When women were getting banned from Twitter it was covered on the radio but nic Williams didn't have examples, so the TRA was able to claim it was transphobic hate speak being deleted.

We need a record of the silencing.
I hope some one can do this.

spontaneousgiventime · 25/06/2018 11:23

I'm furious too, for all kinds of reasons. This is a site to support women and we're being kicked not supported.

I am heartened by the conversations I'm having in real life. I don't particularly seek out conversations on women's rights but will happily engage when it comes up.
Feminism is alive and well out there, even in unlikely places. My impression is that most people don't think about certain things in life until it impacts them.
Most of the people I've spoken with are thoughtful, decent people and their first instinct in inclusivity (good) and that to a large extent transgender is is nothing new - everyone knows someone, or was that questioning child, or even is that trans adult, but then you realise this is a complex, nuanced issue. There are competing rights and the solution is not to ride roughshod over women and children. More thought, more discussion is needed. Careful, well considered legislation is essential.

Maryzsnewaccount · 25/06/2018 11:32

I have been here for 16 years. Never been suspended or banned.

I'm afraid to post.

I'm also still unable to get into my original account.

I have one more thread in me, and then I think I may well be done.

spontaneousgiventime · 25/06/2018 11:33

The media are also now covering this. This is one reason I'm half tempted to link this thread to a journalist. I think it's time that the media began to look at what is being proposed is effecting women in more profound health ways. MH is serious and things should be done to ease the situations that cause distress not compound them.

bigKiteFlying · 25/06/2018 11:35

I think for every GC poster there are hundreds of lurkers thinking the same thing who wouldn't post but would sign petitions and donate money and complain to the BBC etc.

I would be one of these.

I have a DD in guides and another DD few years off and only reason I know it's now a gender not sex based organisation is thanks to MN.

There are so many things surrounding this issue that I'm now aware of thanks to MN and so many posters in this section - thank you Flowers

I really hope you don't all go.

R0wantrees · 25/06/2018 11:36

Maryzsnewaccount

You will have been part of so many important discussions.

Might you consider this thread?

Maryzsnewaccount · 25/06/2018 11:40

I just posted on that Rowan, but I'm worried about it [sigh]

There are so many wonderful threads on here, but with people from outside the site seemingly having all the time in the world to dig them up and go through them, I'm worried that old posts/threads will be deleted under new rules.

It happened ten years ago when they brought in stricter moderation. If someone reported a five-year old "fuck off" post, they'd delete it. Which made some of the threads in Classics very holey Hmm

Beamur · 25/06/2018 11:42

What I forgot to say, but the important bit of my comment! Is how useful MN has been for me in giving a place to show and read these debates. I don't agree with everything I read, but I've learnt a lot, and I've looked up other resources and news articles as a result of posting by other people.
I can understand why moderation is needed on public forums, but it does feel like debate is being stifled here, which is a real shame.

spontaneousgiventime · 25/06/2018 11:45

It's not just stifling, it's the inconsistent moderation, the fact trans and TRA posters can flood the board with impunity and at worst get a smacked wrist while the women this board was designed for are doing mental gymnastics to conform to guidelines none of us know what they are. With one mod you can say X the next mod will give you a strike. We have proof this has happened.

LangCleg · 25/06/2018 11:51

I'm worried that old posts/threads will be deleted under new rules.

MNHQ did say that the new rules only apply to threads, posts and posters from the day they were instituted. So if you get something old deleted, they've made a mistake and you should appeal it.

Maryzsnewaccount · 25/06/2018 11:53

That's great, LangCleg.

I hope all the mods are aware of that, and will look at dates. I'm getting a tad cynical though, as I suspect there are some, erm, disagreements among the moderation team. I think a certain ex-intern really does have a few friends left there.

Norther · 25/06/2018 11:55

Just had my first strike!

BeyondFemaleElitist · 25/06/2018 11:56

I guess you can only appeal it if you know though; they might delete it as breaking the new rules, but only give a strike if it's past the date they came in?

R0wantrees · 25/06/2018 12:07

I think a certain ex-intern really does have a few friends left there.

My memory that this was explicitly claimed and is on the thread below which in discussing a slideshow presented at NUS Women's 2018 by two NUS officers prompted the response from a previously employed MN Intern:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3222263-Slide-show-on-How-to-Deal-with-TERFs

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 25/06/2018 12:11

Be careful what you wish for MNHQ! You couldn't make it more obvious that you want to drive away the women who MAKE your board! When they've gone you'll be left with crap.

daughterofanarchy · 25/06/2018 12:20

Hi, could someone private message me the details of “the other place” as well please? I would really appreciate that. Thank you

Pratchet · 25/06/2018 12:21

I think a certain ex-intern really does have a few friends left there

Definitely - but I bet there's an epic mod battle going on between them and the others.

TheQueef · 25/06/2018 12:21

Is there also a reddit group for mnet refugees who are GC?

spontaneousgiventime · 25/06/2018 12:23

The data breach was never successfully explained. We were all expected to accept the "don't worry, we have it covered" bullshit line we were fed by Justine. Now we are facing this...

I still say that the intern who was responsible is a relative of someone at MNHQ's. How else would you explain the fact they were so lax about it?

Pacers · 25/06/2018 12:37

If I were Mumsnet, I’d embrace the Guest Post trend. Closing down “transphobic” language on FWR can only go so far, after all.

Help educate the Conception and Pregnancy board that talking about maternity units is problematic.

Open the eyes of those on long running birth injury support threads - they ought not to understand their issues in the context of female biology, after all.

Posters supporting elderly relatives should be clear that the gender identity of those providing intimate care is at all times paramount.

Ensure parents prepare ALL their children for a future of menstruating, just to be sure they’re not making assumptions based on what they can see of that child’s body.

If it’s worthy of enforcement on FWR, it must be worthy of reinforcement across the boards. Right?

BeyondFemaleElitist · 25/06/2018 12:38

Mnhq did specifically say there was no relative connection, so it wouldn't go down well if it was found there actually was

AngelsSins · 25/06/2018 12:47

Could I please get a PM re the new place?

Absolutely gutted to be losing this place.

Absolutely gutted to be losing the right to free speech.
