Had a reply from CRUK re "cervix havers"

ShotsFired · 24/06/2018 10:26

(Longstanding donor, I emailed them following this article: www.thetimes.co.uk/article/smear-test-campaign-drops-the-word-woman-to-avoid-transgender-offence-263mj7f6s?shareToken=84b68d81ce844a6f55b8e64b9a36757b)

The meat of their reply as follows.

================
We want to make it clear that this is not about disengaging women from the screening programme, or eradicating the word women. It’s our duty to make sure that everyone who is eligible for this screening programme knows about it. Research shows that cervical screening prevents at least 2,000 cervical cancer deaths each year in the UK so it is vital that we raise awareness that Cervical cancer develops in anyone who has a cervix.

In addition to this, screening might not be relevant for all women such as those who have had a full hysterectomy. We phrased our information on cervical screening to reflect this. Some women identify as men but still have a cervix, so we wanted to make it clear that they would still need to be aware of the screening programme.

We do always welcome feedback and so I do thank you for getting in touch. We definitely want to ensure that our messaging is as accessible as possible for lots of different audiences and do not want to discourage anyone who has cervix from the screening programme. We will make sure that’s considered for future communications.

Based on this I have now decided to withdraw my donation from CRUK and support a charity that focuses specifically on female gynae cancers instead.

Thanks also LangCleg, for the recommendation.

Wakame · 24/06/2018 16:30

"I find the word ‘women’ quite useful for including all those with a cervix."

Some doctors however, find it less useful.

Wakame · 24/06/2018 16:32

"surely anyone can ID as trans."

Trans isn't an identity. I am trans because I was assigned male at birth but identify as female.

LangCleg · 24/06/2018 16:33

Yes, by expanding to include everyone with a cervix, we are trying to limit the number of people receiving treatment

This is not expansionary. Everyone with a cervix was already covered. This is using abstruse language to exclude the main targets of public health campaigns in order to pander to the identities of people who are mostly bourgeois and will already know to access them. It's classist - believe it or not there is more than one axis of marginalisation. I know this can be a hard to arrive at understanding for some. I'll repeat what I said earlier.

Public health initiatives and campaigns are only useful if they are targeted at/make it easy for the hardest to reach people. That's the entire point of them.

Bourgeois, blue-haired, up-themselves-to-infinity idiots will never need a public health campaign to access potentially life-saving screening. They know this stuff already. They monopolise resources already. This campaign is not for them - either to inform them about services they're already aware of or to validate their identities.

That CRUK prioritises bourgeois wokeness over actually reaching the least likely demographics to take up screening just tells me that it is not fit to run public health campaigns - or to receive any donations from me.

trans woman who is fertile is a fertile woman

Please explain.

AngryAttackKittens · 24/06/2018 16:40

We're back to ass babies again, aren't we?

(Someone pls link to the appropriate thread!)

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 24/06/2018 16:43

Ass babies? Yeah, I’m gonna pass googling something that sounds nsfw.

Dinosaurchicken · 24/06/2018 16:44

You can identify however you like. It won’t change your biological sex.

Sex matters.

Perhaps we should default to saying male or female ?

Although wakeme seems to think you can identify your way out of sex as well.

Dinosaurchicken · 24/06/2018 16:45

Wakame... didn’t mean to use the wrong name.

Snappity · 24/06/2018 16:45

"Public health initiatives and campaigns are only useful if they are targeted at/make it easy for the hardest to reach people. That's the entire point of them."

And one of those groups is trans people.

Wakame · 24/06/2018 16:45

"This is using abstruse language to exclude the main targets of public health campaigns"

I can just see all those evil doctors now: "Hmm, how can we increase the rates of cervical cancer in this country? Ooh, I know..."

Plenty of unwoke charities still remembering women exist. Take note, CRUK, because these are the ones that will be getting our money and you probably need to stop putting pomo-addled nitwits into responsible postions in your organisation.

Ucantarguewistupid · 24/06/2018 16:51

Cervix, no cervix, able to get pregnant or not able to..... What chromosomes do you have? For they are the final judge as to whether your sex is male or female. The constructs we have created for the two sexes are the gender. You may well feel you identify with that particular societal construct. Does not mean you are a man or a woman tho. Just means you either do or don't conform to a stereotype. Most do conform to the stereotypes of their sex and when it comes to gender stereotyoe each side is not comfortable with the small percentage of those who adopt the stereotype that is the opposite of theirs into their circle. The sex known as female/women does not on the whole want to share their space with the sex that dies not share the same chromosomes. Females missing bits for whatever reason will always be women to us, cos ya can't lose chromosomes

OrchidInTheSun · 24/06/2018 16:51

Ironically, the group name for CRUK's campaigns is 'Be Clear on Cancer'. I guess they only have to be clear if it's cancer that affects men though. Because cancer that affects women is too upsetting for some men to deal with

(((men)))

Meanwhile women die. I shall donate to the Eve Appeal.

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 24/06/2018 16:52

Many women who have hysterectomies still retain a cervix of some sort and still require regular screenings. 😡

LangCleg · 24/06/2018 16:54

I can just see all those evil doctors now: "Hmm, how can we increase the rates of cervical cancer in this country? Ooh, I know...

I can just see all those pomo-addled nitwits staffing public health charities now: Hmm, how we can increase our woke virtue signalling? Ooh, I know...

There. Fixed it for you.

Top tip: it's not the doctors commissioning and designing poster campaigns. HTH.

Snappity · 24/06/2018 16:54

"The sex known as female/women does not on the whole want to share their space with the sex that dies not share the same chromosomes. Females missing bits for whatever reason will always be women to us, cos ya can't lose chromosomes"

So you also want to exclude me and other intersex women from your elitist definition of "women"

AngryAttackKittens · 24/06/2018 16:55

Next time you're asked for donations say "sorry, I wanted to donate but it wasn't clear at all, so I gave the money I'd intended to give to you to a different org instead".

Wakame · 24/06/2018 17:04

"Hmm, how we can increase our woke virtue signalling? Ooh, I know..."

...we'll start killing people - yes, and then we will take over the world - mwahahaha! Hmm

Wakame · 24/06/2018 17:06

"Top tip: it's not the doctors commissioning and designing poster campaigns. HTH."

Top tip, there is no evil conspiracy to kill women with cervical cancer. The queen is also not an lizard from space and Elvis really is dead.

Wakame · 24/06/2018 17:11

"What chromosomes do you have? For they are the final judge as to whether your sex is male or female."

So you think this pregnant woman is a man:

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/health/news/11381463/Woman-born-with-no-womb-gives-birth-to-miracle-twins.html

I say she's a woman, but the fact that you are willing to accept that a man can get pregnant, is progress in my opinion.

Wakame · 24/06/2018 17:12

I do think it's positive that you are all still putting your money into cancer charities even if you prefer to use different ones.
