I hope so.

This is the first time I a while I've not woken up to any goady threads started by the 'midnight mysogny' as one poster called them, brigade.

Wonder what they were all up to last night!?

ChattyLion · 22/06/2018 08:02

I feel that FWR threads seem a bit slower moving lately. I wonder if a lot of people have gone. Sad
That apparent slowness coupled with only quite recent threads being shown on ‘Threads i’m On’ (..i’m sure I used to be able to scroll back over many more threads I had posted on..?).

This combination nudges us towards making more numerous but shorter threads in FWR.

I appreciate FWR threads as resources (collections of links and arguments etc) as well as somewhere to talk, and refer back to them etc when I have time to read- so this combination seems unfortunate in terms of the FWR board’s ability to sustain and collate and develop a discussion over time. Hopefully i’m just imagining it.

I am still extant!

I am posting a bit less but it's not the new guidelines - more, as you say, because there are too many threads for me to have time to keep up with. So I'm just contributing to the two or three that interest me most at any one time.

I know a lot of newbies have come out of lurking due to the new guidelines and I think that's great. But I think we could all do a better job of curating the topics into fewer threads. (This is one of two Friday present threads, for example!)

ResistanceIsNecessary · 22/06/2018 09:14

There are two registers running so I'll post on both!

Still here - and the dictionary definitions on yesterday's register are still there...

drinkswineoutofamug · 22/06/2018 09:21

I'm a lurker. Rarely post as I don't want to sound thick . I think that twitters stance and now the mn bollocks is denying women free speech. What world do we live in when science and biology is over ruled by a bunch of Neanderthal pillocks who think we should be seen and not heard.

BeUpStanding · 22/06/2018 09:28

I'm here but hardly posting at the moment. The new rules have totally confused me. Are we still allowed to say transwomen are men?

AngryAttackKittens · 22/06/2018 09:31

I'm guessing people aren't gone so much as afraid to say anything because what they can say without risking deletion is still clear as mud even after the clarifications.

LittleLebowski · 22/06/2018 09:41

I'm still reading and checking in, for all the good that does! Agree things seem a bit slower. I haven't had an email back from the other forum - I know they were v busy but I'm wondering if I should email again. The intern data incident and confusing speech rules have been very off-putting. Anyway, happy Friday!

BeUpStanding · 22/06/2018 09:44

Yay! You're still here AAK. Hadn't seen you about and was worried you'd been struck off.

BeUpStanding · 22/06/2018 09:46

Hi LittleLebowski. Reading and checking in is still important & useful, or at least that's what I tell myself.

AncientLights · 22/06/2018 09:48

Morning all. Still Here, seldom posting, planning on joining the Other Site too. I think you risk a slap on the wrist for missing out the space between trans and woman. Because that all-important space proves they are women, like you would write white women but not whitewomen. Or some such total bollocks.

AngryAttackKittens · 22/06/2018 09:49

I'm fine! Just having a busy week at work.

LittleLebowski · 22/06/2018 09:52

Hi beupstandingSmile missed you and the suitcase after the meeting!
I'm too shy to start threads, but for anyone interested there is a long read in the Guardian about patriarchy
www.theguardian.com/news/2018/jun/22/the-age-of-patriarchy-how-an-unfashionable-idea-became-a-rallying-cry-for-feminism-today

ScarletBegonias · 22/06/2018 09:57

Morning all.

Ancient - the MNHQ clarification note of 19 June is clear that we can say either 'trans women' or 'transwomen'. Of course, there's no guarantee that they won't change their minds at some point.

LangCleg · 22/06/2018 10:03

I'm not particularly scared to say anything. I'll carry on saying what I want to say and if I get smitten, I get smitten. I'm still pissy at being funnelled into using sex-based collective terms for gender-based identities and I won't be doing that - but in the end, being forced to type stupid phrases to refer to a completely obvious group of people doesn't make me look silly: it makes the rules look silly.

I want to stay here and I want the conversation to keep happening here because I know how widely it is observed.

ChattyLion · 22/06/2018 10:32

^ YY Lang that’s how I feel too.

AngryAttackKittens · 22/06/2018 10:33

It's sad that the environment in which we're doing so has become so much more hostile, but getting the information out there is important enough to make the effort worth it.

FloralBunting · 22/06/2018 11:36

Fwiw, I'm still here. I have noticed fewer posts from regulars, but I have taken that as a bat signal to step up and respond to things myself. This board has been a real catalyst to so many women like myself, who thought we were alone and going slightly mad. It needs to keep going to the bitter end, imo, and I am very happy to be a voice that extends it's usefulness.

daughterofanarchy · 22/06/2018 11:49

I’m here. Just want to say that some of the women I’ve managed to reach out to about the gender and sex issues in real life have basically shrugged their shoulders and not really engaged with the issue. Almost as if they can’t be bothered- most disheartening to see.

PositivelyPERF · 22/06/2018 11:53

I’m still here. Just nipping in and out, while plasterboarding the new dog room, while wearing work dungarees and work boots. looks down to check if a penis has magically grown Nope! Still a WOMAN.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 22/06/2018 12:15

Still here, no strikes. The new rules are vague and inconsistent and outrageous but when I find myself writing around them I notice that my comments are still clear but also that - by going the long way round - I have to be explicit in a way that may help any lurkers unsure of the issues.

Theinconstantgardener · 22/06/2018 12:20

Hello. Agree about these these threads being a good resource. We used to have a resource thread which had stuff on like links to research and articles about sex and gender and so on. I wonder if it might be worth doing that again? Might help with arguments irl and letters to mps etc. Also a while back pencils and others started a wiki with lots of excellent stuff on it but I cant remember the title of it or the link

LangCleg · 22/06/2018 12:33

I notice that my comments are still clear but also that - by going the long way round - I have to be explicit in a way that may help any lurkers unsure of the issues.

Exactly! For anyone who is taking the effort to say what they want to say rather than capitulate and use the prescribed Orwellian terms, there is actually greater clarity. Because we're not using in-the-know lingo that may confuse observers: we're using clear descriptions of material reality that everyone can recognise.

Potential own goal?!

AtreidesFreeWoman · 22/06/2018 12:34

I'm still here!
