I know it's hard to tell how mixed up you feel
Hoping what you need is behind every door
Each time you get hurt, I don't want you to change
Because everyone has hopes, you're human after all
The feeling sometimes, wishing you were someone else
Feeling as though you never belong
This feeling is not sadness, this feeling is not joy
I truly understand. Please, don't cry now

Please don't go, I want you to stay
I'm begging you please, please don't leave here
I don't want you to hate
For all the hurt that you feel
The world is just illusion, trying to change you

Your target audience.
I see all the old deceivers,
And we all just sing their song''

No idea if it still works - had lots of fun with it a while back

Thank you SOOO much. Smile

Battleax · 21/06/2018 09:37

Damn. It doesn’t actually work. But it made me laugh anyway.

Thanks Bowl Smile

Bowlofbabelfish · 21/06/2018 09:40

Oh what a shame! Ah well, I may go and dig out the books - I could do with a laugh, having your rights as a woman erased is so draining Isn’t it..?

@TransplantsArePlants

I just wiki'd and 'What Fresh Hell Is this' is a quote of Dorothy Parker

My favourite DP quote was when she was being hounded in the McCarthy era and some random guy attacked her at a party. She said something like "With the crown of thorns I'm wearing, why should I worry about a prick like you?" Grin

I loved the Anti Trans Hate Speakers first album. Full of energy and heart. Great melodies and songwriting. It was nominated for the Mercury Prize, quite right too.

"A Latte and an Orange Segment" is the standout track from the album of course, but "Don't PayPal Me, Love" is also a modern classic.

Couple of decent covers on there too; "It's Raining Redacted" by The Weather Redactors is particularly good.

Racecardriver · 21/06/2018 09:47

Was that actually supposed to be a poem? It was astonishingly bad. So bad that I couldn't get past how bad it was to actually get some meaning from it. What is the OP actually trying to say?

BeyondSceptical · 21/06/2018 09:49

Upstart, are you quoting me or have we both randomly quoted the same song?!

UpstartCrow · 21/06/2018 09:51

Great minds think alike Grin
I confess I didn't read the thread before I posted, but the point bears repeating.

BeyondSceptical · 21/06/2018 09:54

Indeed it does.

I was listening to Holywood yesterday and it jumped out at me, then OP goes and starts this entirely relevant thread... Grin

newtlover · 21/06/2018 09:55

am completely confused as to who this OP is aimed at
is it anti-trand hate speakers
or anti trans-hate speakers?
because there is no clue in the actual content

newtlover · 21/06/2018 09:55

anti-trans hate speakers

UpstartCrow · 21/06/2018 09:56

And you know what he says about flattery.

BeyondSceptical · 21/06/2018 09:57

Oh yes...

The anti trans hate speakers were indeed a great band, formed in 2004 I recall.
They did a Shania Twain cover. The name of the song escapes me.
It's on the tip of my tongue.

BarrackerBarmer · 21/06/2018 10:13

ElliePhant has got a trunk
It makes him very sad
And if you dare to notice it
He'll say that you are bad
You shouldn't do that, ElliePhant
A trunk is not a minus
Learn to love your dangly bits
Like we love our vaginas
But please be sure to understand
That just because you're cross
You cannot step all over us
And think that you're the boss
For if you try to bully us
And think we'll be hoodwinked
I've news for you, my trunk-ed friend
We'll render you extinct.

BeyondSceptical · 21/06/2018 10:15

Oo, I have another one upstart (picking up from where I stopped listening yesterday...)

"We were the world, but we got no future
We wanna be just like you"

Sciencelogic · 21/06/2018 10:18

Barracker
Very good Grin

AsAProfessionalFekko · 21/06/2018 10:21

‘Ooo ooo ooo, I wanna be like yooo yooo yooo, I wanna walk like you, talk like you, tooo-oooo-ooohhh’. I loved that cartoon.

He never did get to be like the manchild.

Juells · 21/06/2018 10:23

What a great pome, @BarrackBarmer. Personally, I thought it would scan better if the word 'all' was added in the third last line...

For if you try to bully us
And think we'll all be hoodwinked
I've news for you, my trunk-ed friend
We'll render you extinct.

...but I guess it depends on where the stress falls. In your version, the stress would be on the word 'be', wouldn't it?

"And think we'll be hoodwinked"

For me a more satisfying arrangement of the words would be
"And think we'll all be hoodwinked"
But of course it's your pome 😉 😅

LangCleg · 21/06/2018 10:24

Apropos of nothing at all, I'm reminded of...

‘Nay, nay,’ quod he, ‘than have I Cristes curs!
Lat be,’ quod he, ‘it shal nat be, so theech!
Thou woldest make me kisse thyn old breech,
And swere it were a relik of a seint,
Thogh it were with thy fundement depeint!
But by the croys which that seint Eleyne fond,
I wolde I hadde thy coillons in myn hond
In stede of relikes or of seintuarie;
Lat cutte hem of, I wol thee helpe hem carie;
Thay shul be shryned in an hogges tord

I spent an entire eighteenth year calling everyone an hogges tord because, like all teenagers, I was so, so mature!

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 21/06/2018 10:24

Loving your work Barracker!😂
