“This is an activist? Fuck off.”

thebewilderness · 05/06/2018 00:38

Forcing a company or organization to give you special accommodation is what passes for activism and social justice these days among the asshattery.

Thegallofher · 05/06/2018 01:06

Oh I have watched a lot of Ash’s stuff (along with Alex Bertie, Jake ft Magic etc. in an effort to understand the appeal of the trans narrative to this age-group) and I was wincing at the harshness of Magdalen’s comments. Not because I don’t agree with the points she was making but because I can imagine the reaction of Ash’s audience (and Ash herself who seems quite vulnerable) Magdalen’s tone is apt when reacting to some violent, misogynistic TRA but Ash is not far from being one of those young women we feel so protective of. Yes, she’s got a huge following of mainly impressionable young teens and some Tweenies but I don’t think it’s particularly helpful to treat her like she’s some scheming TRA. She claims to be non-binary and is going for top surgery and has this You Tube friendly persona ( and is very skilful and quite funny in her videos and presentations). I can just imagine the reaction of the Trans community if they watched Magdalen’s video. I don’t know why I feel so protective of Ash but I feel she is more of a victim and Magdalen sticking the proverbial boot in makes me feel uncomfortable. I absolutely do get what Magdalen is saying - but I feel we’re cutting ourselves off from communicating an alternative message to this demographic by sticking the boot in in this way IYSWIM???

thebewilderness · 05/06/2018 02:23

It is hard to have patience and empathy for a Judas Goat while they are leading others to destruction.

NotMeOhNo · 05/06/2018 03:08

But it's so important for impressionable people to see a critical analysis like this. I think she's brilliant.

TransplantsArePlants · 05/06/2018 05:54

Thegall

I understand what you are saying. The reaction of this middle-aged woman (me) t the dramatic persona of Ash is to hurrumph. Didn't know she had an eating disorder but it makes perfect sense.

Is Magdelen's delivery so off-putting though? I don't think so.

I wish the teens and tweens would read some feminism

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 05/06/2018 06:32

Always excellent Magdelen. Thank you for being a voice of clarity for our young people who are far to influenced by these bullshit you tube ‘stars’.
My dd is turning her friends onto magdelen one by one Star

JoanSummers · 05/06/2018 07:15

Never heard of a judas goat before, very apt.

AngryAttackKittens · 05/06/2018 07:33

I can see why people would feel sorry for the young woman in the video, but the reality is that she is indeed leading her followers down a path that will hurt them.

Critiquing Magdalen's delivery is a bit of a red herring. There's no way she could say what she's saying that young people already steeped in the gender cult would like.

Thegallofher · 05/06/2018 08:49

I love Magdalen’s caustic tone normally and she chucks all that ‘let’s be nice’ female socialisation out the window. I’ve laughed along too (her Stef Sanjati reaction videos are highly amusing) I guess I’m having a wobble because although I know Ash spouts a lot of nonsense and sets herself up as some sort of wise navigator of this multi-gendered, multi-label trans-landscape - I feel for her. But that’s the reality of this world and I’m glad there’s people like Magdalen saying the unsayable and pointing out that the emperor has no clothes.

The basis of what Magdalen was pointing out was fantastic and people like Ash should really have a listen to the key message she was getting across - the whole ‘what did you do to counter the sexism’, how did you help other women by doing what you did. The whole idea that many women/young girls seem to be bailing out of womanhood because it’s too hard. That well known saying ‘the personal is political’ seems to have transmogrified into this ‘me, me, me’ culture. There seems to be no looking at the bigger picture. Thinking out loud here. Absolutely love Magdalen Berns honestly. It’s just that she is Frankie Boyle to Ash’s Michael McInytre (not a brilliant metaphor I know but hopefully you get my drift?!) Off to google Judas Goat now... constantly learning and all that.

Pratchet · 05/06/2018 09:10

I love this, well done Magdalen.

Thegallofher · 05/06/2018 09:24

Just read up on the Judas Goat. Very appropriate.

SuitedandBooted · 05/06/2018 10:09

So much of the Trans narrative, particularly for younger people, seems to have a "fashion" feel about it, for want of a better description.

I was very struck by a poster on another thread, relating the evening they spent recently in a gay club, with a young/studenty clientele. The toilets were marked as Male and Gender Neutral (presumably that was formerly the Ladies...). There was a queue for the GN one, but the Men's was barely being used, so our intrepid female poster went in there! She and the barman were just Confused about it.

Sorry that's a bit simplistic - I don't have time for a long post this Am - but great to see Magdalen back! xxx

BlooperReel · 05/06/2018 10:17

Recent Magdalen fan, her videos are great, plain English, deconstructs trans ideaology in humorous, easy to understand formats and language.

Pratchet · 05/06/2018 10:18

She should be on actual telly.

gendercritter · 05/06/2018 11:02

The basis of what Magdalen was pointing out was fantastic and people like Ash should really have a listen to the key message she was getting across - the whole ‘what did you do to counter the sexism’

Ash has privilege. No doubt they're vulnerable on some level but 500k followers puts you at an advantage in society. And yet still, when coming up against sexism, instead of doing any real good and tackling that (difficult to do, I appreciate), Ash has taken the discrimination and looked inward rather than out. They are literally subsuming a societal problem into a personal issue of being trans/different. It's the ultimate female submissive act. 'I am wrong' rather than 'society is wrong.'

I think sometimes the narcissism runs so strong in these people, you need someone to mock what they're saying and point out how silly it all is. Ash is so very self-obsessed and ultimately is doing harm. They will have lots of vulnerable followers. I get why people feel for Ash. It's very hard not to. Ash seems like they need a lot of help and guidance. But you also need to keep in mind how many people they will be influencing negatively.

speakingwoman · 05/06/2018 11:24

Nicola Thorp is inspirational.
As said, heels are particularly noxious given the effect on health.

Pratchet · 05/06/2018 11:30

Who is Nicola thorp

WeAreGerbil · 05/06/2018 11:38

Nicola Thorp is the woman who challenged PWC about high heels.

Pratchet · 05/06/2018 11:40

Oh yes yes yes

therealposieparker · 05/06/2018 11:48

Ash makes lots of cash out of exploiting and indoctrinating others into the cult of trans. Magdalen was kind.

Pratchet · 05/06/2018 12:17

I don't know why ash has followers. I don't think I've heard a more annoying voice.

Pratchet · 05/06/2018 12:18

I thought she was taking the mickey at first, then I realised it's her actual voice

hipsterfun · 05/06/2018 12:24

How old is Ash?

hipsterfun · 05/06/2018 12:26

I don't think I've heard a more annoying voice.

Surely you’ve heard Riley J. Dennis?

Dear god, kids these days. I feel old.
