Loving that the Metro quoted Katie. Who thinks David Lewis is imaginary, and also coached by WPUK and who thinks Catia Freitas and I are the same person. Excellent, non mad, person to quote there, metro.

Also, I never thought I'd say this, not a polite as the Sun, who at least ask to use photographs from twitter. Though I should probably contact the Redbubble artist and ask for commission for the advertising they're getting Grin

Xenia · 29/05/2018 14:27

that's why self ID is a load of rubbish. No way to sort out who is "genuine" trans or not.

Our current law weeds out the not genuine and is carefully drafted and very sensible and yet kind to real transgender people. We don't need self declare. It is a step too far.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 29/05/2018 14:29

Katie talks a pile of horsepish, including making up terms like 'lookist' and accusing feminists of being so.

Completely Fucking Barking

RebelRogue · 29/05/2018 14:30

Wtf is lookist?

R0wantrees · 29/05/2018 14:31

It might be be good if some of the journalists who use TRA Twitter quotes sometimes had a look at their 'tweets and replies' .

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/05/2018 14:32

From the article:

‘Trans women are often indistinguishable from cis women and if a group of trans women had tried to use the men-only pool they’d have been met with exactly the same reaction.’

Do TRAs really genuinely believe that? That often people can't identify what sex someone is?

R0wantrees · 29/05/2018 14:34

I think Katie may have been 'twitter quoted' in one of the main articles about how the Mercure Hotel came to cancel the WPUK meeting in Cardiff.... not completely sure.

ToeToToe · 29/05/2018 14:40

Katie is a very troubled individual. AGP if ever I saw it.

Used to have a pinned tweet "Yes, I have a penis".

IndominusRex · 29/05/2018 15:02

Metro piece included link to petition - excellent!!!!

nauticant · 29/05/2018 15:02

Used to have a pinned tweet "Yes, I have a penis".

For some reason that's triggered in me the lyric "yes, we have no bananas".

TerfsUp · 29/05/2018 15:03

‘Trans women are often indistinguishable from cis women and if a group of trans women had tried to use the men-only pool they’d have been met with exactly the same reaction.

Somewhere, a village is missing its idiot.

nauticant · 29/05/2018 15:08

Imagine living your life in a state of continual cognitive dissonance. That does seem to be a tough road.

I've often thought that non-questioning affirmation is probably bad for the mental health of many trans people. Reality will always be there to bite them on the arse.

R0wantrees · 29/05/2018 15:18

I think Katie may have been 'twitter quoted' in one of the main articles about how the Mercure Hotel came to cancel the WPUK meeting in Cardiff.

I thought so...
www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/hotel-deletes-bigotry-tweet-campaign-14523459

Michael Briggs (Oxford Sociology) described the background to the Mercure cancellation in a recent essay:

"Meetings organized by Woman’s Place UK are subjected to harassment and intimidation by transgender activists (many of whom are not actually transgender). Their slogan is #nodebate. Transgender activists lie about the organization in order to persuade the venue to cancel the booking; this stratagem was successful in Cardiff in April; the Mercure hotel hastily cancelled the booking on account of ‘bigotry’, but then had to issue an apology to Woman’s Place. If the venue does not cancel, then activists will ‘show their fury with the venue by giving them a 1 star review on Facebook’ (as happened after the meeting in Edinburgh, 14 February 2018)."

‘Trans women are often indistinguishable from cis women and if a group of trans women had tried to use the men-only pool they’d have been met with exactly the same reaction.’

So in Katie's world, men would object to sharing their pool with ..um..men? Confused

TerfsUp · 29/05/2018 16:04

Well done, SwearyG and Amy.

@Amy - the beard and mankini were a stroke of genius. I thought it was Danielle Moscato for a moment, there. Grin

Ereshkigal · 29/05/2018 16:06

If truly indistinguishable from women they can sneak in without anyone knowing right? But they can't. Because they aren't except in a tiny number of cases.

YesItsADebate · 29/05/2018 16:11

For anyone in the country who hasn’t yet seen the petition, here’s a link: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/214118

YesItsADebate · 29/05/2018 16:12

TerfsUp I’m sure ‘Danielle’ has better figure [and beard].

boatyardblues · 29/05/2018 16:30

Good to see Amy’s petition link on the Metro piece.

LangCleg · 29/05/2018 16:40

I honestly spent the longest time thinking that the K person was a Russian bot - numbers in the name and all that. But now it appears that there is a real person there. Which is... worrying.

boatyardblues · 29/05/2018 16:44

just harmless fun, but what happens if a rapist gets locked up and claims to identify as a female?

This comment under the DM article is crying out for a well-evidenced response.

boatyardblues · 29/05/2018 16:45

PS The general public really has no idea how far things have already gone. Sad

R0wantrees · 29/05/2018 16:46

ManFriday also mentioned in this BBC report:
'Twitter 'bans women against trans ideology', say feminists'

"Twitter is banning women who "speak out against the dangerous dogma of trans ideology," a feminist group has said.

In a letter to Twitter director Martha Lane Fox, Fair Play for Women says the company is allowing "a concerted attack on women's free speech".'

(continues)
"Stonewall is calling for a system of gender recognition based on self-identification, and wants to remove the requirement for a medical diagnosis before a transgender person can change their legally recognised gender.

The organisation says changing the law would make life easier for trans people and "barely affect" non-trans people - also known as "cis" people.

In July 2017 then Equalities Minister Justine Greening said the Gender Recognition Act needed to be updated and that a consultation would begin in the autumn.

The Scottish government is currently consulting on gender recognition.

The campaigning group Man Friday argues allowing people to self-identify as a particular gender "removes any gatekeeping to women's identity and protected spaces".

To protest against any change to the law, the group choose Fridays to identify as men and take part in activities such as using male changing rooms.

On Friday a group of women attempted to access the men's only bathing pond in Hampstead Heath as part of a protest against self-identification"

YesItsADebate · 29/05/2018 16:52

Hi again. I’ll be debating Jane Fae (again!) on BBC Radio 4 at 5.15pm of anyone wants to tune in.

boatyardblues · 29/05/2018 16:57

Although the boneheadedness of some of those DM commenters is quite astounding, there are increasing numbers “getting it.” Also a few who, after being told they’ve misunderstood & to go back and re-read the article, have returned to say they now get it & well done ladies.

1.6k comments & rising. Well done #ManFriday chaps!
